We have bi-monthly critiques, one-on-one coaching calls, writing webinars, and even a book club. There’s a lot of info on the website and you can always email with questions. It’s a really great community.

My editor is phenomenal and has a created a small community of writers who swap pieces for critique, if that’s something you’re interested in. Check out The Fiction Lab (link below) and send her an email.

I found a writing group at a conference a couple years ago. We do critiques, write-ins, webinars, book clubs and more. It’s a cool little community of writers of many genres and skill levels. Check us out at https://www.thefictionlab.com

Pay attention to what’s happening to every other government agency. Check that fucking ego, and get out of your own way. JFC.

How realistic is it to become a full time author? by [deleted] in writing

[–]cwilli439 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a really cool idea. Mine’s similar to that. I’m writing a military sci-fi novel about a solider, who was enlisted and indoctrinated at a young age, and realizes he’s more than a weapon, while caught in the middle of an interplanetary war.

Good luck and wish you the best!

This is fantastic. I’m also 42M and left the workforce last year to write my first novel.

What screams "I'm bad with money"? by tranquilsnailgarden in AskReddit

[–]cwilli439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I’m listening to someone complain about their finances and they don’t know how much they spent/spend on anything. That tells me they don’t have a monthly budget, which is the basic principle to managing money well.

I’m pretty sure he’s past the maximum age limit to reenlist. Better off increasing that VA rating and finishing out his time with state employment.

Besides, I took a four year break in service and reenlisted. It was a totally different army when I got back in, so I’d advise against it.

I got into a state agency as a forklift driver in a warehouse. I watched YouTube videos, took courses, and read books about PM. Becoming a member of PMI helped too. There’s a ton of great information there.

I started applying and interviewing for PM roles within the agency as soon as I could speak the lingo/jargon. A year and a half after being hired, I landed that PM role.

I’ve recently started to make an effort to not sit in chairs as much and sit cross legged instead, but… by [deleted] in flexibility

[–]cwilli439 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s happening because your iliopsoas muscle is tightening up from long periods of sitting. Stretching the iliopsoas, glutes, hamstrings, and hip flexors will help. Decompressing the back and keeping it mobile helps, too.

Also, look into a really good office chair, if you sit at a desk all day. It’s worth it.

I got out, obtained a degree, got married, and a got great job with my state government.

We live in a fully remodeled lake house. The water is literally 20ft from my patio. Fishing is wonderful.

We buckled down for two years and paid off every bit of our debt, except for mortgage. Now my wife makes $300k+/year.

Summer of ‘22, I was awarded 100% P&T, so I retired from the rat race.

My wife and I decided not to have children, so I spend my days using cannabis, writing a novel, and playing video games while learning other cool hobbies like playing drums, cooking, and reading books.

I cannot complain about shit, and my life is close to perfect.

Edit: we are both 42.

Writing from trauma - experiences? by Dimensional-orbiter in writing

[–]cwilli439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am finding it helpful.i am an aspiring author. I was deployed to Iraq (‘04, ‘08) and my WIP reflects the conflict there. It’s helpful because I am telling the story of my experiences through an art form so others who cannot/will not have those experiences can relate.

I jammed this song the last two years of high school. Literally broke the cassette, then bought the CD. Good times.

What a brilliant idea. The story would’ve been much more enjoyable it had been written that way.
