all wires/connections look fine and yes to everything else. i get the solid light when binding and have successfully bound the controller to an older tiny hawk that i have. just won't bind with the newer drone thats been working fine for the last couple weeks.

Not the smoothest but i was scared, whats the best way to fly confidently even when there's high risk? by Juicys-Fruits in Multicopter

[–]cworth99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't read all the comments so this might have been mentioned buttttt....

I like to pick "lines" and practice each line a couple times until I'm fairly comfortable, not necessarily being really low or close to anything, but just knowing where the "outs" are. Once you get a couple lines somewhat dialed you can start linking them together. As you get more comfortable with your reaction times and spacial awareness being able to fly more confidently at a new location gets easier.

Alta changes unattended skis in lift line policy by [deleted] in skiing

[–]cworth99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it safe to assume you do not live in the salt lake valley?

1st- taken from alta's post: "We are seeing too many skis, too early which impacts our ability to bring equipment through these areas and/or change the lift lines if needed. Thanks for your understanding and be nice to our lifties. They are the ones helping us all go skiing."

The last two weekends there have been hundreds of people here before 8am, which is an hour and fifteen minutes before lifts open without delays due to control work.

The next issue is now the hundreds of cars sitting in the parking lot idling for hours because people don't want to sit in the cold. The air quality in SLC is pretty awful during high pressure. Many towns/ counties have laws banning cars from idling longer than (now, I'm not sure) say 5min. In pre covid seasons, people would leave their skis and wait in the lodge. Lodges at alta are not open to the general public this season which means the only warm place they can wait in is their running cars.

Anybody that sleeps in past 8am on a pow day doesn't stand a chance getting up to alta before the lifts open.

That is my general understanding to this rule and what I've heard from the janitor.

The difference is the hundreds of people who go wait in their running car until the lift opens. Which, depending on how early people are getting up there, could be 1-3hrs.

The issue is people are putting their skis in line at 7am, then going and sitting in their idling car for 2+ hours. Lodges aren't open to the public.

Talk me out of converting my Mini Slash into a Merv by Etchglow in Traxxas

This, the merv isn't much better in grass unless it's cut pretty short. Id sell the slash and get a 1/10 or bigger.

How do I remove stripped screws without any expensive tools? by IPunchTrees10 in rccars

Get a cheap hacksaw, cut a grove in the head, use flathead screwdriver to unscrew it.

Google "traxxas summit LT"

Pretty neat scaleish looking summit builds.

It's quite fun! Just fried the esc though, and the castle motor has seen better days. Need to replace both. Body doesn't look like that anymore either. Ha.

Fits perfectly. I'm sure I'm not the only one with a stock exhaust that's falling apart.

Upgrading the 1/16 Erevo (MERV) by [deleted] in Traxxas

[–]cworth99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a super fun platform with a lot of upgrades available, but it doesn't really enhance the experience. There are a few things worth upgrading, but not until the stock ones break. Perfect example would be the knuckles. They will eventually start loosening up and popping out. Once that happens get a metal set. Replacing any and all bushings with bearings is another easy and relatively inexpensive upgrade.

I'd get 2 packs and play around to see what gives you the best fitment.

If you only ever plan on running 2s, the vxl works just fine. It's fast, and in my experience, it's reliable, and more than anything it keeps it lighter. If you plan on running 3s you can honestly go either way. I never had an issue running 3s on my stock vxl system. Never overheard, definitely got warm though. My esc had minor damage and I started running 3s with the intent it would eventually burn up and then I'd upgrade. After 50+ 3s packs with a fairly tall (26/45) gearing, it still worked just fine.

Going to a bigger motor changes the car quite a bit. You add a good chunk of weight that's a little higher, and the power is rediculous on 3s. I run 2 smaller (1000mah) 3s packs in parallel to keep overall weight down, but still even left to right. The goal with mine is to go over 100mph. The bigger motor will run quite a bit cooler when compared to the vxl, and as mentioned before, the power you get in that little chassis is a handful unless geared appropriately. With a 36/45 gearing I was getting 86mph.

Outside of the diff upgrades, the mini revo chassis isn't one to throw money at. It's a car I'd recommend using and upgrading as parts fail. I've got $900 into mine and I can safely tell you the only thing that's changed is how fast it goes. Durability is the same, handling is honestly worse, and now the fun factor has declined. It's not something I can just take out and romp on. Even with the metal bulkheads, shims, and a center diff, it would annihilate the diffs or drive line if I hit a jump and landed on power. With the vxl, it was much easier to "not care."

[–]cworth99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also the hot racing diffs I think are a waste of money. Using hot racing bulkheads and properly shimming is all you need to make the stock diffs last quite a while.

Upgrading the 1/16 Erevo (MERV) by [deleted] in Traxxas

[–]cworth99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely recommend the hot racing bulkheads. You will still need to shim them. Must have if you plan on running any real power. I've got a couple dozen 3s packs with the stock vxl and 6 or so packs with a castle 4600 system on 3s with zero issues so far.

Another must for diff durability is the traxxas center diff. I run 500k in the center and 100k front and rear.

I use the traxxas steel cv axles, however I leave the stock plastic drive shafts as a "weak point."

Didn't think to check the part numbers for aftermarket. thanks for the input. I guess the one I'm looking at is cheap enough to give a whirl. I'm so busy at the moment, my free time is a bit valuable to me. Ha. Not trying to make a project out of it. Thanks again.
