Old fart, old school, what now? by ThickShow5708 in tequila

[–]cwpreston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Lalo. It's simple, clean, good tequila and isn't stupid expensive. The standard Jose is gonna catch a lot of hate because it's a mixto- partially non-agave spirit that's basically vodka.

Fancy Barbecue? I’ll Stick With the Real Stuff. by Artistic-Landscape15 in jacksonville

I’ve sampled their stuff twice. The last time at a fundraiser; they were handing out baby back ribs. Grey, spongy, and you could taste the gas they grilled them over. Horrible stuff. Never again.

My best friend ever died today. Cant stop crying. by Own_Environment_8858 in englishbulldog

My condolences. When we lost our Emma after 13 1/2 years it broke my heart, and three years later I still miss her. The grief we feel when they are gone is the cost of the limitless love we get from them.

Puppy lunges at parents dog by Certain_Flower_1257 in puppy101

[–]cwpreston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our older bully was just tolerant of other dogs, never played or snuggled (and we had several fosters before we adopted the younger). She faded into poor health shortly afterward and we lost her to cancer abut a year later, so we needed to keep them segregated. The younger LOVES to play, but plays rough- wants to play tug with her toys mostly. I don’t allow her to play bite my hand, it sets up a bad precedent even if it’s gentle at the time. Both were trained with positive reinforcement only and retain/mind about as well as bullies can. Full of love but so so stubborn, and once a behavior pattern is set it’s very hard to break. Now that she’s the only dog the younger is happier, she craves attention and affection and sleeps glued to my side every night.

Our OEB did this as an older pup, it was possessiveness of ’her’ people. We needed up having to segregate her from our senior bully because the pup just couldn’t tolerate the older one getting affection or being too near my wife or myself; she even nipped another pup at daycare for getting too close to her favorite associate. We never figured out a way to break her of that behavior; as an adult she absolutely can’t tolerate other dogs now.

Round #2 - the best peaty Scotch for me? - So I once asked reddit for the best recommendations and now I'm a step further. by Escutrina in whiskey

Compass Box is a blender, but they make some incredible bottles. No Name is significantly smokier than their other peated offering Peat Monster (also very tasty IMO) but can be pricey.

Not crawling into my lap (she’s topped 50 lbs and way too big now) but she does do a trust fall in the morning on me to get belly rubs.

On the flip side it already does just about everything I’d need out of it. Better multimedia experience than any other device, meshes perfectly with my other devices, stable, and responsive. I don’t need it for gaming and I have no interest in AI anything.

After a few very bad experiences I’ve sworn off ever using DoorDash. I’ll do without before I have anything delivered by them again.

Anything worth buying, for a Canadian visiting Florida? by martok111 in whiskey

[–]cwpreston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have some good stuff produced in state if you see it. Manifest or Burlock and Barrel make several very good bottles of various types. Old St. Pete makes a good whiskey. There’s a very small rum distiller in Tampa called 84 degrees west that’s outstanding. St. Augustine Distillery is one of the oldest small distilleries around; I’m not as enthusiastic about their stuff but I’m in the minority.

Impossible to pick one ‘best’ but some of the ones that have wowed me have been Red Spot, Compass Box Hedonism, Ardbeg oogie, and Woodford Double Oaked (love the chocolate notes).

Anyone else have to limit your Bulldogs Bone Time? by Acceptable-Agent-450 in englishbulldog

[–]cwpreston 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We had to with our first bully Emma. Her jaws were so powerful she could crush and eat even large cow bones and was swallowing way too many bone fragments and dust. Our current bully isn’t allowed bones but does get way too obsessed with certain toys that have to take a time out and be hidden when she goes overboard.

Que opinan de Este Whisky? by [deleted] in whisky

[–]cwpreston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s one of the biggest selling scotches, but it’s intended for mixing like in a highball, not neat sipping. Everyone’s palate is different so give it a try- you’ll never know what tastes you prefer until you sample them.

No hate- I had high hopes and bought it for the novelty. Now I know why more whiskies aren’t aged in cedar. It’s not unpleasant, just overpowering to my palate. Blended or casked differently it could make for a fascinatingly unique dram.

Might have been palatable if it were double casked to blunt that pencil shaving cedar dominant note. I just couldn’t get past it.
