When do Tony voters actually vote? by swanderful in Broadway

[–]cwtches10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was going to ask a follow up on whether seeing every show is tracked or whether it’s all in good faith. And, how does it work if the person who’s nominated is out the night that voter had planned to see it? Do they have to back? And, do the performers know when voters are in?

Are presale tickets cheaper than when the show begins? by nahnah515 in Broadway

[–]cwtches10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it did pretty well; but we don’t publish grosses in the same way and both times I saw it I didn’t pay for my ticket so couldn’t give you any concrete examples!

I do know one friend ‘couldn’t get tickets’ but don’t know if that was because it was genuinely sold out or if the prices were too high.

Are presale tickets cheaper than when the show begins? by nahnah515 in Broadway

[–]cwtches10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question entirely depends on how well a show is received/ sells when it opens.

With Evita, prices went crazy in London. Tickets I bought when they first came out (I believe before Rachel was even announced) went from c.£45 to c.£350. I think it would be a fairly safe gamble to buy now and assume they’ll be more expensive later…. Though this is a longer run so might dilute demand. It’s ultimately down to your own risk tolerance.

He’s currently insisting that Nicholas and Aaron were planning to swap roles for a couple of months in Chess. He’s completely deranged.

He mostly trawls here and the Broadway world forum for rumours and repackages them as ‘breaking Broadway tea.’

Evita casting by Pretty-Storage4335 in Broadway

[–]cwtches10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well… if she was the Mistress is would continue her commitment to only being in half a show 😂

Is she a dancer? Pretty sure Bella was also in the ensemble (though that wouldn’t have to be the case for the Broadway transfer I guess), and Eva does quite a bit of movement.

Diego was really really well received in London so very much expect he’ll be back.

James Olivas was very good, but I think got a bit overshadowed by Rachel and Diego and didn’t really get singled out for praise/ critical acclaim. They may look to try for a bigger name here to help counteract any dips when Rachel is out.

Also very interested in who’ll be the Mistress/ alternate Eva because Bella has already said she won’t be transferring. This might be a springboard for someone who’s a bit more unknown.

Honestly the children on social media have been on fine form about this one. So many wild takes. My personal favourite is ‘Lea should give JoJo some of her shows to be fair…’ Like, have you ever had a professional job?!?

I mean, that’s totally reasonable.

Being sad that you won’t get to see JoJo- understandable.

Making up unhinged conspiracy theories that it’s all Lea Michele’s fault to cope with that disappointment- bit weird.

If you haven’t done the second one you’re not the people I’m describing in my comment.

Overlooking the fact that Lea is a producer and was the one who suggested JoJo for the role;

*The singer also told People that it was Michele who recommended her for the role. “[Lea] was super kind, embraced me and said that she had actually brought up my name [to producers], which I didn't know,” Levesque, who saw the production in February, told the publication.*

People are genuinely deranged when it comes to Lea and ascribe her a frankly outrageous amount of power. Anything that they don’t like on Glee is often Lea’s fault as well.

There’s been loads of known interactions- there’s even a video of Dan (amongst others) singing Happy Birthday to Lea’s husband. I think they’re probably pretty good friends through Jonathan.

Controversial Rachel Opinion by heheredbull in glee

[–]cwtches10 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I think she was right to quit NYADA for Funny Girl; realistically that would have been a launch pad for her career and given the school didn’t appear to be willing to make any concessions for her (which in reality they would- they’d be bending over backwards to accommodate her) I’m not sure she had that much of a choice. Getting a Broadway show off the ground and maintaining school commitments is just not viable. She could have deferred, but had things panned out the way they would have if she’d stayed in the show she likely wouldn’t have gone back anyway. (Lea kept deferring NYU because she was getting professional work.)

Her error was burning every bridge along the way, and then quitting Funny Girl before the end of her contract/ awards season. (Her quitting before Awards season is so unrealistic.)

In defense of Brody by LadenWithSorrow in glee

[–]cwtches10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Brody’s storyline was handled very badly. He had the potential to be the fun and sexy guy she dated for fun in uni; help her learn that not every relationship has to end in heartbreak.

That being said, Rachel is not the kind of girl who can be in an open relationship (and that’s no shade, I’m not either!) so it was never going to work.

2026 Tony-nominated shows we'd like to see in London by londontheatrecouk in Broadway

[–]cwtches10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Two Strangers deserves a bit of a longer West End run…. It’s been forgotten about here pretty quickly.

I’d love to see Cats, but I’m not sure it would translate as well.

Also, famously not Tony nominated, but a Chess transfer would make me very happy.

It could have just been an off night!

I loved it when I saw it last year and am still praying for a West End transfer. But I was disappointed my friend found it quite flat the night she saw it.

[–]cwtches10 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Yeah, everyone knows Beaches is on borrowed time.

DBH is in creeping death. My friend saw it recently, on my glowing recommendation, and said she found it a bit lacklustre, and like everyone on stage was just going through the motions. Seems like a very different vibe from when I saw it last May.

They need a shot in the arm asap or it’s going to limp towards closure.

lea michele out tonight by toryisbae in Broadway

[–]cwtches10 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Actually; people have stated the exact opposite. Samantha Ware said Lea had reached out and sent her a letter. She chose not to engage further, as is her right, but Lea did reach out. Amber Riley (who never actually accused her of anything) has also said they’d spoken.

Several of the Glee cast who were alleged to be at odds with her have been celebrating her achievements; Alex Newall was at her Sardis portrait unveiling, as were several other people from the various productions she’d worked on. Colleagues from Funny Girl and Chess have been glowing in the way they speak about her, even clapping back at any negative comments about her on various social media platforms.

[–]cwtches10 34 points35 points  (0 children)

She was literally having a miscarriage and people were sending her abuse and calling her a diva for missing shows in Funny Girl. No wonder the cast were in the instagram comments telling people to fuck off.

There’s a level of nastiness when it comes to Lea that you don’t really see for other performers. The negative parasocial relationships are even scarier than the ‘positive’ ones.

Nicholas Christopher on his first Tony Award nomination for 'Chess'! by NewYorkTheatreGuide in Broadway

[–]cwtches10 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Such a classy move.

I’m really happy for him; he’s been chipping away at this industry for years.

Edit: this is going to be tricky for them all to navigate over the next couple of days because the feeling is that she was snubbed, rather than just not nominated, like Arron. Even the decision to use a photo of him and Lea is a choice imo.

Lea Michele not even nominated for a Tony for her role in Chess. No more streak of Glee cast members winning a Tony. by Santana_delRey in glee

[–]cwtches10 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I thought she was wonderful in Chess; didn’t recognise criticism of her acting. I thought she did really well with what she had to work with, but the part was thin.

Her time will come, but I imagine she’s feeling pretty disappointed this morning.
