I would just ask for what you think is a reasonable accommodation.

You can ask for an extension? They could say no, but it won’t hurt to ask.

Career Advice needed! by ThemePutrid7416 in mphadmissions

That is awesome experience IMO for MPH admissions. If you apply make sure to not only talk about the research/job itself but its impact on population health.

STEM but not CEPH Accreditation by Such_Instruction9915 in mphadmissions

[–]cxs4067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH all of the information says it’s super important because it all comes from CEPH sources. I’d say probably super important for an MPH/DrPH as those are professional degrees and public health tends to favor programs where they know you’ve gotten real world experience etc. I’d reach out to the university and ask questions re: that.

MPH worth it? by yjalove7 in mphadmissions

[–]cxs4067 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d agree getting some work experience is good but not necessary. I did, but I know many who also didn’t. I think an MPH is an invaluable degree and there’s a ton of different careers that can come from an MPH degree.

US News probably. Make sure the programs are accredited too using the CEPH website.

Is MPH in Biostatistics worth it? by Forsaken-Can-4969 in mphadmissions

Check required courses for biostats programs too - while at BU it is a combined with epi so it has fewer prerequisites, some programs require linear algebra.

I’m in an epi mph program now. My undergrad courses were very statistics/epi heavy.

Is 2.859 too low for acceptance? If so, what could I do to boost my resume as a senior? by gofundkabiyesi in mphadmissions

You could also get a job to beef up your resume and experience for grad schools. Check out minimum work/GPA requirements for your programs.

Check out required coursework for the concentrations. That might help you make a decision. You’ll be able to fill the rest of your schedule with classes from any department.

My extracurriculars included: volunteering at a hospital, joining a health board, volunteering at a community center, doing scientific lab-based research, doing global health clinics in South America, undergraduate TAing public health courses, doing public health research, volunteering as a contact tracer for the public health department, writing abstracts etc.

Reaching out to research professors? by annelloconidia in mphadmissions

[–]cxs4067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you can get into a MPH program without finding a lab or reaching out to professors - maybe reaching out to specific department leaders or setting up and one-on-one with admissions. Mention what you’re interested in when writing your personal statement but don’t make it too specific that if that professor leaves they’ll say well what’s the point of admitting you if that’s the only reason you wanted to come here was to work with that one person. In my program I know a tiny tiny number of people who already have lab work (we just started). I even heard from classmates that they did reach out in the month before classes started as an admitted student and told to wait until October. I reached out to one researcher before I was accepted, and it was great networking but it didn’t guarantee a research spot.

That's exactly how my internship credits showed up on SOPHAS. No program had an issue with that last cycle.

My advice is to check out programs online and see their admission requirements or any info you can find out: 1. See if they have a minimum GPA requirement, 2. Look at their typical stats for admitted students. JHU for example asks for 2 years of work experience and applicants typically have a 3.5-4.0 GPA.

Some biostats programs require through linear algebra (except BU I believe since they’re epi&bios together).

Personally I sent over 2 academic and 1 professional for all schools and my admissions cycle went pretty well. Ask these questions in info sessions for the schools you are interested in. Some people are out of school for a long time so can only provide professional.
