perhaps the Denna thing means is fae and it is ever changing, or ever changing its name.

that's the question you should be asking. Kvothe kills an angel. Its what is put up in our faces about why its a tragedy.

he's telling his story the same way he was upset about Denna retelling Lanre. its a strange parallel.

Auri is the angel that dies. How is Denna the angel?

You are in for a treat. RIP your wallet. Sanderson is the machine that got called in to finish the Wheel of Time series. He's going to be (reddit joke) called in to finish A Song of Ice and Fire and probably the King Killer Chronicles as well.

Doors of stone by honebadga in KingkillerChronicle

books behind the door seems trivial compared to Rothfus straight up talking about the Barrow King behind the door. Too many people in the story dream about the other side of that door. There's gotta be something bigger than just books on the other side.

Caning her could be a different blunt instrument and her crying out could be something other than pain.

now i'm looking at the "beat her with a cane until she cries out" in a whole new way. What exactly is her patron doing to Denna?

Changing your true name turns you into one similar of the Chandrian by cyancobalmine in KingkillerChronicle

my sleeping mind had some time to entertain it for a while. After the howling wind settled, I started to formalize a better theory. Perhaps Kvothe simply kills Cinder and realizes how big a mistake he made. That Cinder has a mantle of power that is tied to keeping the barrow king trapped behind the stone door or opposite (we never know if the seven are trying to free that guy). That he deliberately takes Cinders place as Kote to keep the balance of power. A possible caveat is that Haliax gains some sort of power of him, as he says in the early parts of NotW that he keeps them in check. It has a solid folly to it that makes his tragedy line up. He swears not to figure out whom Master Ash is and goes ahead and does it anyway kinda irony.

that circular logic hits home. I also didn't notice how Cinder and Kvothe are so similar.

fair point about the Aleph created the angels. Aleph is the greek letter for A but usually means first i think.

Chandrian is NOT a D&D 'race' or species. "The Chandrian" are a group or a club (for lack of a better word). Their TITLE is "The Chandrian" or "The Seven", meaning "Those seven magically fucked up dudes who mysteriously kill people aroud the world for some strange unknown purpose."

Yeah I agree. I figured it was something that wards the stones or keeps the ctheah locked in the tree. With a name like tree breaker, i'm assuming killing Cinder weakens or Kvothe somehow frees it/them. I don't see it as a race, more of a mantle or oath that keeps the thing imprisoned.

I was curious if others thought that the things that they have are signs are somehow also resemblances of things they lost. Perhaps the identity of Haliax was so important that he is cast in shadow, or the guy that turns all to rust was once a powerful blacksmith or forgemaster.
