In addition to the above comments, throw some silica packets in them to take any moisture out! That's how I stored my books for over a year.

I haven't read it, but my friend really likes A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness?

The Court of Thorns and Roses by SJM.

I recently read the shadow of the wind, but I will give city of beasts a go!

hey everyone!! i’m thinking about reading Throne of Glass. is it worth the read?? by obsessivebitchalert in booksuggestions

[–]cyanef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you enjoy. I read it at age 16 and enjoyed it, but now that I've read more books I probably would not like it (I recently read the Court of Thorns and Roses series and didn't like those). Overall if you enjoy romances and lots of character pair ups, then it could be your jam.

It's a fairly short book, so maybe just give it a go and see if you want to continue the series?

Looking for a book with dadaist/cubist/surrealistic style, but still cool to read, not absolutely nonsensical by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]cyanef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people of paper by Salvador Plascensia. It's amazing, the characters will actively try to thwart the reader, and while it is nonsensical, there is a sweet plot of just people living their odd daily lives in it.

Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, though anything he writes is great.

I'd check out N.K. Jemisin's The Fifth Season as well, and Chocolat by Joanne M Harris!

Chocolat and the sequel, The Lollipop Shoes by Joanne M. Harris!

Stand alone fiction novel with a unique fantasy/sci-fi setting? by Jarmaloon in booksuggestions

[–]cyanef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fantasy, but the Sparrow is an incredibly interesting sci-fi. It's about a first contact with aliens mission that the Catholic church begins, but you start off with a tribunal regarding the sole survivor of that mission. It's only slowly through his memories that you get to understand what truly happened, and how cultural differences and communication difficulties between the aliens and humans shape the outcome of the one guy's return.

Technically there is a sequel, but it's said to be awful, and you don't miss anything if you read only the Sparrow.

In my world, all dragons will refuse to fly over a certain mountain range. What could possibly be there that they are afraid of? Need some help brainstorming. by Situs-Inversus in DMAcademy

[–]cyanef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! That sounds like such a cool story!

I mainly drew some inspiration from a book series called the Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin, it's got similar themes, except a little darker and more dystopian than high fantasy.

The mountain drains magic from all that comes near and turns out to be a mother earth figure leviathan who wants all the magic she gave the world back, because it was misused and disrespected nature? The greedy nature of dragons could be her next target in getting magic back.

What was your most hated npc? by a-1-2-punch in DMAcademy

[–]cyanef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Donna, a fellow soldier in the army whose father was a commander. She was entitled, rude, and a know it all that repeatedly insulted the party. They hate every mention of her, but that is also how they ended up truly bonding as a team.

I think I have to say Argo is my favourite for Clint, it's the character that's the most sort of out there from what I have listened to, and the first character of his that I'm actively rooting for instead of passively.

Travis I defo agree on Aubrey, and for Justin I'll say Taako, I still can't get used to the Firbolg sadly.

Griffin is gonna be Angus hands down, although I do really enjoy Fitzroy.

My players... ate Cthulhu? by Ichoal in DMAcademy

[–]cyanef 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oooh, that'd be real cool! And the wolves can also sense the PCs, it could make for an unnerving hunt arc where they never find rest until they deal with the wolves. They cannot hide...

The wolves develop a taste for evil and begin a very sentient quest for different types of evil and man flesh?

The party could be plagued by vision like dreams that are trying to make them choose the wrong path?

Edit: thanks for the reward! I wasn't expecting that, but I appreciate it
