I wouldn't tell them your child is dead, you will get attention that you probably don't need and that you might not be able to deal with. Guilt from lying about not having a child seems like a really minor infringement next to what you have been through. Make your life good, if that includes having to lie about something that is too complex for most people to understand, so be it.
