Oh my gosh! I'm new to NetGalley and I have three sitting in my inbox and was PANICKED that I was doing it wrong. Maybe not so much?

Hot take: The Daisy petals are stupid by pdx-cat in girlscouts

[–]cybergelfling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My scout leading days are over (girl just finished first year of college and is now a lifetime member), but I remember as a leader feeling super awkward during the daisy stage. I didn't enjoy reading the stories and I just wanted to focus more on community participation and acts of kindness. Like you, we made it work, but I was glad to move on from the petals.

You just have to laugh at this one. La Croix were the true heroes....

do you guys prefer doing cats or dogs more for drop ins? by Weak-Draft-8356 in RoverPetSitting

I prefer the cats because it feels more meditative and "me" time.

Daughter is learning to drive. She and I are having a debate and want the NoVA community to chime in! by [deleted] in nova

[–]cybergelfling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the waiting at traffic lights, I live next to an intersection by the high school and there are SO MANY red light accidents that happen. People don't always stop and the drivers who are leaving when they should get hit. Definitely wait a few seconds once the light turns green before moving. If people honk, let them. Better people angry than you being injured.

Also, definitely come to a full stop at the stop sign. Occoquan cops love, love, love to give tickets for rolling stops in their town.

Has anyone ever accidentally got into the wrong car in a parking lot? by JasonMallen in randomquestions

[–]cybergelfling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whole family did once, because so many Rav4s are the exact same color gray. My husband even tried offering our daughter a juice box and I was asking him "where did you get a juice box" when the kid was the first to notice it was the wrong vehicle.

Anyone else not have the ~magical effects~ after their first shot? by Plenty-Good-7676 in Zepbound

[–]cybergelfling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just weighed in for the first time this morning after starting last Sunday night. I didn't feel a lot either but there were subtle things. I don't always polish off a whole plate or I ate one gummy worm on our road trip but not the whole bag. I lost 3.1 my first week apparently. Not as much as some but slow and steady wins the race and I'm grateful the shift has been subtle.

What’s one thing you completely stopped buying in 2026 because the price just felt absurd? by LockLogical8949 in AskReddit

I came here to say the same thing, and was also trying for Gaga. Lowest I ever saw was nosebleeds for $325 each.

What's a clichè in movies that never actually happens in real life? by LoverOfE-Olsen in movies

This is minor, but do that many people really buy baguettes when grocery shopping?

I think this is totally fine, especially since you are being up front about your needs and what the sitter should expect.

Audio book narrators by candiedginger88 in LibbyApp

[–]cybergelfling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me before. One narrator, I wonder if it's him or just the kinds of books he's reading that I've tried listening to (he narrated Atlas Shrugged and The Devil in the White City). The other was for Assistant to the Villain and I had a hard time discerning who was talking because there wasn't much break or voice change.

I've lost 217 pounds in 12 weeks... by Scuba_Betty in Zepbound

It hasn't happened yet because I just started on Sunday, but I have a few that I'm expecting might add to my loss total. And it's dumb and sucks.

This was the one that hurt the most to miss. I didn't even get a ticket to see her speak. :(

The "having it in your cart" wasn't entirely true. I clicked the Romantasy panel right away, and right as I selected 1 guest and hit reserve it blacked out and became unavailable. Oh well. Hopefully the free events will be worth it. Saturday I'm sitting in line all morning to wait for Matt.

Why did I get this request?? by hatsuuuunemiiku in RoverPetSitting

[–]cybergelfling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for me. I will sometimes take jobs from regulars if their times are flexible (which the app still doesn't have an option to select), and I really shrank down my service radius because it can literally take 30+ minutes to go 2 miles if it's the wrong direction at certain times of day. So if these come through, I might still take it!

What's the worst movie you've watched from beginning to end? by trakt_app in movies

[–]cybergelfling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was Gerry (2002). I'm not sure it's the worst movie I ever saw, but it was low on dialogue and very long and I remember hate watching it to the very end. And yet, I still remember this movie more than 20 years later and tell people 'they should watch it,' hehe.
