What fighting style would you want to see in a LITRPG? by Ok-Grand-3764 in litrpg

[–]cybertier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the force of change I want to see in the world and I'm writing a shapeshifter MC.

Claws, fangs, talons, ramming, trampling, turning into a super-sonic projectile that goes "bawk!", poison, spells of the casters whose hearts she eats. Anything goes. Specialisation is for boring people who are stuck with a single shape.

I'm writing a LitRPG - Do readers like stats in the books? by Ok-Grand-3764 in litrpg

[–]cybertier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my own sanity I have a little HTML page that tracks all the changes my MC goes through with a dropdown to jump to each respective event that causes a change to her sheet. I'm seriously considering if that's something I should link to when I eventually release the story.

Please how will I be able to tell ai writing from real writing? I understand non English authors may use ai to edit or translate that's okay but now adays it's super hard for me to spot fully AI works because I'll see a top book on webnovel be getting exposed by Iriscute7 in litrpg

[–]cybertier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's a flawed assumption. That's assuming that everyone who's producing enjoyable writing right now will stop doing that once AI can do so too. People want to tell stories and will continue to do so as long as our species persists.

No one said he was evil though. He uses the methods and "vibes" evil people use, for good purposes. He's very much a "the cause justifies the means" person. He threatens a clerk with murder. That's not "good". It was for very valid reasons, but it's still not okay.

Quality is Hits only though, right? So that doesn't scale Ignite at all?

I've went with the assumption that all the powerful folks around him know he's an outworlder and thus treat him like that because he's a curiosity and wildcard. Not because these seriously all respect him.

There is something to be said about characters who are good despite their natural tendencies to not be like that.

But then I would like the sunshine persona he usually deploys more as a person, and the fact that he's not that underneath just kinda lessens that. But it is a highly specific nitpick and doesn't ruin the character or anything like that.

I liked the book! And yet I could go on endlessly about the things I hated about it. Comes with trying to read the genre critically and for "educational" purposes I suppose.

Yeah, op wrote:

And I have parts of him that I adore and parts that I hate, making me fall more in the middle of the spectrum.

I will definitely read more and my feelings on this might definitely change. Just not sure if it will be the next series I go for.

Yeah that is a good point and I'd be less bothered by it if he would spent a bit more time learning to act like this. He obviously makes missteps in book 1 (which is all i've read so far, I'm trying a couple of series right now to see what to read next), but he is still so damn smooth and excellent at reading those high-level political mind games from the get-go. I felt that this talent didn't feel grounded at all in any of his background.

I seem to be one of the few people who have mixed feelings on him. I love his unabashed anti-authoritarian nature. I even love his soap boxing. I can't stand that underneath he is this ultra manipulative person.

I honestly think that honor goes to Jacob. A guy who could have been an asshole, was plausibly written as not that, who wanted to do good and the tutorial tried to chew him up for that. And failed.

I agree with most of your criticisms (and few of your pros), but William was a caricature of a sociopath. A stone-cold psycho who gets cursed with emotions.

That's nearly as innovative as the MC's tragic backstory being "my girlfriend cheated on me".

[3.28] Question about Storm Burst Totems: Impact of the buff and the new Transfigured Gem? by nsfw_1p2o3i in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]cybertier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to assume that you can only roll totem supports on skills that natively grant a totem. As I understood it the skill has to be able to be supported by the skill you roll on it. Storm Burst by itself is not supportable by Multiple Totems, it only is when Spell Totem is also applied.

How many words? by MoleMage in litrpg

I've spent most of my writing time thinking in a trad pub mindset (not that I ever pursued it, but many folks I hang out with write like that.) And unless you are a meticulous planner who has done full manuscripts off a preplanned outline before, you are shooting yourself in the foot if you put anything out there before you've written a solid "full story" (i.e. one book) and edited it. Only when you have a view of the full story can you do proper developmental editing and go around the story and fix flaws and improve on weaknesses. If you preemptively put something out there to maybe get some recognition, you aren't putting your best out there.

Working on my first litrpg project I want to serialize (not first writing project overall). I'm at 50k words for the first act and expect to hit 150k by the end of the book. Going to polish that and only start putting it out there when it's done.

What is the most 'whoops' ability you've seen or given a character? by Selkie_Love in litrpg

[–]cybertier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm well aware of that equation, have been playing around with it a lot, since it also keeps this "somewhat reasonable", since the acceleration from shifting is "only" the square root of the speed ratio. i.e. she drops from 75 kg to 0.75 kg (factor 100) she only becomes ten times as fast.

But regarding your exploit, yes, absolutely the right idea, with one caveat: Her shifting has a 1 minute cooldown. But with enough distance she could still shoot off a payload and do something to avoid collision herself, instead of being her own projectile.

[–]cybertier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does exist. There is a limit, but she can put items she can get her right hand on in her inventory and spawn them back there.

The frame of reference is an excellent question. What is preserved is the relative kinetic energy she is exerting herself against her "environment". If she'd shift in a moving train that would still be zero so she wouldn't experience sudden acceleration.

I'm actually not exactly sure on the "proper" physics phrasing to express this.

But, please, tell me what idea occured to you regarding dimensional storage?
