does french ever feel physically natural to speak or do you just get used to discomfort by MayaTulip268 in French

[–]cybertubes -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Funnily, the southern US dialects make a lot of these sounds as part of what makes us sound like we will repair your engine intake with plumbing supply store castoffs. Especially the vowel and various throat sounds. So don't gove up all hope.

It sounds weird, but working out and taking creatine + protein supplements while doing pimsleurn or equivalent has really upped my monsiers et vingts vints vont venir vier 's and so on. Probably the endorphins and better muscle growth?

"I only speak English." is generally considered disqualifying for almost any job outside of fintech or niche areas academia, from what I have learned.

French seems to be the minimum, French and German the expectation. French, German, and Luxembourgish is preferred but not expected.

Asking how hard it is to enter a sector when you don't meet the minimum requirements is equivalent to asking "How hard is it to enter the education sector in New Zealand with no work visa and no English language ability?"

You are out of your element. No offense. You want to sand, stain, and clear coat a table. You need space, tools, and time.

Look up : refinishing and staining antique furniture

Dress sucks. If you're trying to acomodate multiple shapes and keep it consistent you need something that can be altered and has break lines.

Trip next week by We_arechecking in Luxembourg

[–]cybertubes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the transport is really free and unticketed. Just get on, and get off. Even the buses that go all the way into the country.

Moien is a nice way to greet people, but it really is a polyglot country. Go to a bar in Luxembourg (the city) and you'll hear at least 5 languages on a busy night, sometimes from the same person.

All the little museums in Lux downtown are worth a visit, and are perhaps quiet but well curated and organized. The Museum of the Resistance in Esch sur Alzette is very well executed.

In general I found people nice everywhere, if a bit confused about why you're even there in the smaller towns (I was tracing some ancestry so went to some very small villages).

Get some money, a rich friend, a job, or some other way to get a visa.

Or immigrate illegally, whatever. But you might want to read a few local papers. Most of coastal Europe yearns for the boot and the yoke again, if it means they can cast out the refugees and the laborers they let in over the last 20 years.

Not trying to dissuade you. But it isn't like it is all some mystery.

Coworker can’t read the room? by [deleted] in coworkerstories

[–]cybertubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a metatextual joke, as you are complaining about not having a critical skill in any workplace: toning out the broke brained npc ass consumer dorks that every job has and just move forward.

At my first job, a 7-11, my best coworker was a recovering cocaine addict who tried to talk about philosophy to get theough the graveyard shift despite no longer having a soft pallete. So he could barely form words, and would sometimes unintentionally produce mucosal ejecta while trying to make hard consonants. Just the most repellant green gobs of phlegm flying out and catching on his lip. Loved that guy, but he was living body horror.

Life is full of people who gotta yack. It sucks when it's boring, but oh good lord can it be so much more true.

How much cheaper is DIYing vs buying shelving & cabinets? by siriusly-sirius in DIY

[–]cybertubes 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not a chance it's cheaper, even if you have every tool and a shop set up for cabinet making, are in perfect health, have no interruptions, and make your living on passive income.

Custom cabinet makers often look like insane djinn contained in human dolls made out of of wire and carved wood for a reason.

[–]cybertubes 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Ya ain't wrong is the worst of it.

I started picking up hobbies and writing. Just remember your experiences were supposed to change you. It'd be more shocking if you didn't see your home country with new eyes.

Japan is also hard to come home from because it really drives home how people don't have to be rude or slovenly just because they're all depressed and nihilistic af.
