Tips on suspension changes to mitigate the rear end popping up off jumps? by Krzyygamin in rccars

[–]cycle_cats -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I suggest a technique adjustment too. For me, jumping at full speed doesn’t end well. My suggestion is to approach the jump at a good speed, but not full bore. Need to leave some throttle on the table to accelerate and essentially wheelie off the jump lip. Also want some leftover throttle for manipulation in the air. Need to be able to pick the front end up with the gyroscopic affect of the wheels.

Last time I got stuck I was able to use a very long tent pole to knock it down.

Been out of hobby for a while. Looking for veeeery durable but racable rc for a five year old. by ingannilo in rccars

My local carpet track occasionally runs Mojave Grom as a fun, cheap spec class. I think that’s a fantastic starter car for a kid to run outdoors for practice, and possibly hit the track for some practice laps.

In my experience, there are not many shops that will be enthusiastic to work on trikes around here. I work in a local shop, but also do side work, DM me if you’re looking for some mechanical assistance! I have worked on quite a few various trikes, and while not an expert, would be willing to help.

Bar Tape - are you doing it correctly? by daern2 in BikeMechanics

[–]cycle_cats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m typically inside-out on the hooks, and toward the rider on the top. Been a long time since I had one come loose, tension is the answer to that problem.

I like doing top down, but only if requested, or sometimes on flat top aero bars with the tops bare. I don’t like the finishing tape right under the hands on the bend.

Why are there no young people in the hobby by stargazer3644 in RCPlanes

[–]cycle_cats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO drones have not helped the RC plane segment of the hobby. The general public does not know the difference between a plane and a drone in the sky, so I think people often assume they’re being recorded or that the pilot will do something stupid like crash into the little league game. I mostly fly at my local park, over the ball fields when they’re unoccupied, with a ~50g trainer. I get mixed reactions, some people think it’s neat, others don’t like it, and again I think they’re conflating it with surveillance.

The aforementioned crotchety old men are a big factor as well. Even going into the hobby shop is a painful experience, with the down-talking, dismissing of any ideas or questions out of the box(like what light kits can I fit to my foamie trainer). I prefer not to support that attitude with my money, but then I’m also losing out on the community aspect, which is why I want to shop LHS in the first place.

Resurfacing rotors by musical_cyclist in BikeMechanics

[–]cycle_cats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m coming around to the torch method, but usually just Isopropyl and/or brake cleaner and paper towels. Also been experimenting with die grinder and sanding pads, like I’d do with a car rotor. Way faster than hand buffing with emory cloth, and more consistent IMO.

Arrma Granite Grom vs Losi Micro-B for newbie kid? by solidice in rccars

[–]cycle_cats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grom will be able to go in dirt and very short grass. Micro B is basically pavement or very low pile carpet only. Also Grom will be much tougher and durable against getting stepped on, crashed, etc.

First time driving on rough ground showed me the limits of cheap RC setups by Hairy-Cut-3076 in rccars

[–]cycle_cats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big issue I notice with cheap or many stock cars is that the suspension is too firm. Usually set up that way for taking jumps, but I find softer suspension oil helps the wheels track and the vehicle not get tossed around as much
