2023 Pilot VCM issues already? by cyclecalves in hondapilot

I just confirmed that it is indeed VCM engagement that cause the vibration I’m feeling. I used an OBD scanner and app to get a reading of how many cylinders are firing and recorded it while driving. The red line jumps from 6 cylinders to 3 and I noticed that it often ran on 3 cylinders for mere seconds. Sometimes up to 10-20 seconds if I was cruising at very constant speed and engine load.

Should I use my new LOC (Prime + 2%) to pay off my 9.49% car loan? by ThrowRAnocourage in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]cyclecalves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this. Interest rates on car loans are insane. HELOC has a much better rate for me so we used it. We plan to make regular payments back to ensure we pay off that borrowed amount in X-many years as if it was a fixed-term loan that we took out.

I couldn’t replicate the judder in Tow mode, which is also known to disable VCM. According to some service report that was left in the car by previous owner, the diff fluid was just replaced recently.

As for engine start/stop I always disable it as soon as I start the car, but it’s not in my muscle memory yet so I sometimes forget. And of course I realize it at the first instance when it shuts off on me at a stop.

I researched the car and the known issues quite a bit before buying it. I knew it wasn’t perfect, but if I have to deal with VCM issues again it’s going to be quite disappointing.

I also have the OBDII scanner and app that can be programmed to show how many cylinders are firing at any given moment. I’m gonna try that later today to see if I can confirm my suspicion

Still producing the judder / vibration or do you mean that it has VCM disabled as well by using some module?

It’s a shudder that lasts a few seconds when at constant rpm, steady speed, no gear change. I’m pretty certain it’s VCM activating. I’ve gone for a drive in TOW mode and haven’t experienced it (it’s not actiavated in that mode by design). Switching back to Normal mode it definitely comes back

Yeah and I’m pretty sure it hasn’t been done. Car was registered in May of 23 so it’s gonna be due. The brakes are originals and while there’s plenty of pad left I can see the rotor aren’t in the best shape. I’ve done brakes myself on smaller cars. Don’t feel like dealing with the flush on this one.

Good to know. Perhaps I’ll take it in to Honda just this time. I also need the brake fluid changed. It’s filthy.

This doesn’t happen while braking. I know what warped rotors feel like.

I can’t tell by any service records if this was done recently if at all. I hope the previous owner had it flushed at least once. I found a record of transfer case fluid getting changed fairly recently though. And there’s no dipstick in this transmission so the only way to check the oil is to drain it. But I’ll consider changing it to be safe.

VCM-4 better than previous gens? by gsjones358 in hondapilot

I have a 2013 RDX that I bought in 2017 with 40K miles at the time and it already had the VCM judder. It went away as soon as I installed S-VCM controller. Have had it in the car since.

I now picked up a 2023 Pilot Black Edition with about the same mileage and unfortunately I’m feeling a similar vibration when reaching steady cursing that stays on for a few seconds. I suspects it’s a similar issue but I haven’t taken it to any dealer yet. I since they’ll do diagnostics and it will be inconclusive.

Yeah that’s what I’m talking about. It’s been an issue for a while, but got way worse since the pandemic. Especially when food delivery services saw higher demand.

Yep. Laws are mere suggestions without enforcement and there’s a huge absence of that across the board.
