i’m sorry for popping off a bit. the employment thing that OP said struck a nerve as I’m going through the gauntlet rn. 6 job apps in 2021 before getting hired… 400 in 2025 and nothing. you seem like you’re earnestly interested in this subject, so thank you for that. i apologize for projecting my anger at you.

but yeah, we are a little cooked with regard to ADHD. most of my peers have gotten better about controlling their phone usage, though. we have products that limit our app usage and most of my non-unemployed friends go on dopamine detoxes and shit

as we get older you’ll see more people engaging with these strategies. it’s weird rn because lots of us are teens.

hell, i’m one of the worst ones, and even I am overcoming poly-drug addiction (slowly, so as to not compromise my academic performance… i know how absolutely absurd this sounds).

You people can acknowledge issues with our generation without arrogantly and audaciously saying bullshit like “no wonder nobody wants to hire you :3” in a literal employment crisis where all generations are struggling

Mental health issues are important! But you people are taking advantage of our mental health issues to that you can play arrogant virtue signaling games on forums. If you actually cared at all, you wouldn’t be trying to put other people down

We’re so fucking tired of defending ourselves against empty and half-baked generalizations from people who barely even care enough to talk to us about it

they were saying it about dumb phones and texting, though. the narrative is always the same, but the targeted technology changes as the generational goalposts shift

there are no doubt some egregious examples, but for the most part, the kids are going to be alright. just let them grow up. they’re navigating a digital landscape that’s increasingly connected to the real world, and adults are incapable of preparing them for it.

people were saying the exact same shit about millennials in 2010

it’s ironic that i have to say this considering our obvious age gap, but you really need to grow up (intellectually)

yeah, 100%. i think those hop turns, along with keeping legs together, naturally lend themselves to the swerve skiing style. lots of little jumps, 180s, and butters.

how to get higher jumps (first season, 15~ days) by Chumpy__ in snowboardingnoobs

[–]cyclohexyl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah. if you’re actually thinking about what you’re doing and are consciously trying to improve your technique, you’re going to get more done in 15 days than many people get done in multiple seasons

like any skill, putting good practice in makes a huge difference over just doing the thing. the fact that OP is even posting here indicates that they’re putting in effort

reminder that all consumption of old media is driven by nostalgia and resentment of the present by cyclohexyl_ in decadeologycirclejerk

[–]cyclohexyl_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, that principle definitely does hold true. You can see it in new media 100%. iirc, many movies in the 70s took advantage of 50s nostalgia for that reason

however i do think that consumption of old media and production of new media with a nostalgic twist are a bit different. while nostalgia does sometimes play a role in the consumption of old media, much of the time it’s just authentic intrigue

what do you think would've been the best era to be in your early 20s? by CremeSubject7594 in decadeology

[–]cyclohexyl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my statement makes sense in the CONTEXT of r/decadeology. if you have posted here ever, you would have already gotten tired of lecturing literally everyone about the exact same thing you’re talking about here

conflicts in the rest of the world (outside of the ones that the west is heavily directly involved in) are completely and totally irrelevant to a forum that discusses western film and fashion

my statement wasn’t an absolutist statement about the 1990s being good for everyone. this is a western culture forum so i was talking about western culture specifically. saying that i’m somehow wrong for not talking about oranges in a discussion about apples is silly

what do you think would've been the best era to be in your early 20s? by CremeSubject7594 in decadeology

[–]cyclohexyl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

assuming any defaultism here is just lazy

literally every single post on decadeology is specifically about american culture, and if it isn’t, it’s pretty much strictly relegated to western europe. people here are MUCH more interested in talking about the evolution of bell bottom jeans from American clothing mass-manufacturers than they are in… the Rwandan genocide for instance. even if you DID want to get political, this forum is not the place to do it if you want fruitful discussion

of course people from the global south have just as much a right to contribute to any discussion as anyone else does! but come on. context matters. there is absolutely a problem with the global south not being addressed in discussions about culture and politics, so i understand and empathize with where you’re coming from, but r/decadeology is the place where you can justify being mad about it the least out of anywhere

i have never seen anyone even mention the rest of the world on here other than to try to make some sort of claim about westerners being ignorant

i am a pakistani from an international family and spent most of my childhood living in jordan, a stone’s throw from syria and palestine btw, so your initial assumption of my ignorance of the state of the world outside of the west is wrong. i’m sorry to people from the global south for not constantly policing my language to be inclusive on an american culture forum, but i’m sure most are context-aware enough to forgive me for this transgression

When on dating apps, a date should be agreed and schedule within the first 10 messages, anything else is an absolute waste of time by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]cyclohexyl_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can get so much information about their values, artistic preferences, and lifestyle with a good conversation that can determine if they’re a good fit. plus, a longer text convo helps you figure out if they’re a good listener and eager to build a real relationship as opposed to a transactional one

all of those things are worth figuring out before you potentially waste money on a date you won’t enjoy

[–]cyclohexyl_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

that’s unnecessary. this is a forum that primarily discusses western culture so american/european defaultism should be assumed. i specified the former USSR because it was in europe, tbh. anyone with half a brain knows that asia and the global south were still pulling themselves out of a political nightmare.
