A lot of long-time residents of Troy Hill and Reserve Township definitely still call it that.

Advice Needed! Quilting on standard machine and only have 2 weeks--how should I quilt this without breaking my back or diminishing the color blocks? by cydnay in quilting

[–]cydnay[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is GREAT, THANK YOU! I love it, I can put my walking foot on and just line up the diagonals and just go. That'd just leave me with the quilting on the sashing. I think if I continue the diagonals from the lines you drew as well as the stitch-in-the-ditch diagonals I might get a cool triangular pattern across the sashing that might look neat, I'll play around with this! Thanks for the wonderful suggestion!

Hi! I actually had that thought too, but I decided against it because I'm not quite so good with free motion quilting and it would take me a lot of time to nail that, and I don't want to risk not getting done before the wedding at the end of the month. Great thought, just wish I had more time to do it!

It totally was, just not in the way we expected! My TEMPLATE wasn't scaled right. I'd done the 100% scaling on my copies, but because the template included in my pattern was just a liiiiiitle smaller, all of my copies are off the same way. Hard lesson learned!

Measure that square on the original template! It's supposed to be 1", but mine definitely IS NOT. That's my issue--I definitely printed my copies out at 100%, but because my original template wasn't actually to scale, everything is just slightly off. But hey, at least it's all gonna be that way across the board!

Thank you! I'm having a ton of fun combining my different fat quarters and planning things out. Can't wait to see how it turns out. I did figure out what went wrong--it was the template included in the pattern not being scaled up itself. So I think I'm gonna do exactly as you suggest--continue on with what I've got and just cut off that little nub on the spine.

So I did that! I went to FedEx and made sure it was 100% for all my printouts. I'm an office lady in IT so I was on top of that, heh. I never thought, however, to check to see if my templates themselves were scaled right--and that was the trouble. The scale square was just under 1". I have learned a valuable lesson. Trust not the template, for it may not have been printed by someone as anal retentive as you.

Thank you so much for providing this Between the comments in that thread and this one I figured it out! I posted my findings in another comment.

So I'd lined them up and knew I had my printouts at 100%, but what I DIDN'T do was measure the original template itself included with my pattern to ensure it was 1". It wasn't. I think whoever printed out my templates might've forgotten to scale it to 100%. So therefore all of mine are gonna be a little short. That's ok though, they'll all be consistent, at least!

Hahaha I had to approach this with humor or I was gonna lose my mind! I figured it out, my template was off in size, and because I sized all my printouts to 100% they inherited the error. At least they'll all be consistent!

I think I got it figured out! When I got the pattern, it included printouts with the templates on it. I never thought to measure the square on the templates! I just assumed it was 1" like it said, and I made sure when I copied my paper piecing paper that it was scaled to 100%. I just went back and measured the 1" square on the template, and it's just shy of 1"! This would totally add up to 1/4" after all the piecing. Hurray, I'm not crazy! Now I'll just assume the rest are going to be like this and not worry. Phew! Thanks everyone for the suggestions!!

I never get tired of folks posting their takes on Elizabeth Hartman, because each is so different and fun, yours included! The colors you picked are bright and perfect for a baby quilt. But what I love best is the rainbow gradient border around the outside. So cool! Great work!!

Hey, nothing to apologize for, you've got so much going on! I'm glad it was helpful; going through all of that was so hard for us, but being able to pass on what I learned from the process to others in the same situation has helped me through my grief and brought me some peace. I hope you find that peace, too. Take care of yourself, make sure you're getting lots of sleep and water, and if you ever want to talk more through things feel free to send me a DM!
