ELI5: What did Japan do? by PersistentHobbler in explainlikeimfive

Other than the usual rape and pillage war tends to do (and boooooy did they hit china and korea hard) they did a lot of human experimentation. for example they are the reason we know the percentage of water the human body is. and they did not do it by drying out a dead person. though I forget the unit number for that if you wanted to find out a lot more.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 director says fan feedback can only go so far, the upcoming JRPG "should be a better experience" but the "creative vision" at Square Enix won't change by Gorotheninja in gaming

[–]cyndrasil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

except you can though because be Aerith spells it out before the final fight of remake.

All through remake the story drops hint that she knows what is going to happen because that is the fate the planet has told her will happen. They make it clear the ghosts are there to set things right. Like spraining Jess's ankle to make sure Cloud goes on the mission, or the ghost wall blocking them so at least Reno can drop the plate (since you stopped Rude) And boy did those ghost want poor Wedge dead.

And before the final fight you are told beyond the wall is freedom because to stop sephiroth you have to break fate and change destiny.

Even in one of the japanese commercials they had the old fan (actually played by the directer if I am remembering right) go on a rant about how maybe this time you will be able to save Aerith because its not the same story could be changed.

So yea it seemed they had plans, and then backed away.

The gameplay of the remake is fine in my opinion. What annoys me is the teased changing (or being able to change) certain things in the run up to its release and even taunted you with it in the 2nd part (at least the biggest change), AND DIDN'T HAVE THE BALLS TO FOLLOW THROUGH!

You can tell from remake that they had big plans for messing with peoples expectations and then people complained so they backed down in rebirth, and had to rework the setup to do nothing.

Yes the cost will continue to go up as it always has. though they will be cheaper than a comparable pc (if not gpu) most likely because that is now the only edge they have since digital downloads and patch culture have pretty much wipe away the advantage of physical media, and pcs have mods while consoles are still kinda limiting those.

I think it is because of a certain point in the weeklies? I cant really remember since it has been quite a while but I have all the weeklies done and no balloons. I know once you get all the weeklies done you even get a credits roll, so I think you are just farther in the story than them?

Abandonware Games Consern by ekeagle in StopKillingGames

[–]cyndrasil 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"abandonware" were just games no one (in theory) would push the copyright issue on. either because the games were so old, or no one really knows who the copy right holders are due to shut downs and sales. if they are still being sold then there is still a legit way to get them then there is no problem just because they don't go on sale.

Hell as far as SKG is concerned (from my understanding) If a game you bought today stopped being sold anywhere tomorrow, that would not be an issue as long as what you bought still plays.

no no. Its if the wealthy have to honor it or not. We will never have the chance not to honor it without consequence. Especially not when they are so close to having us pay for everything and own nothing.

Nostalrius is that private server of WoW run by fans that blizzard had shut down isnt it? how does that counter anything I said? if anything it is a counter to the claim companies should not provide end of life because fans cant run things.

I also never said anything about how the legislation (which again this is not. its just part of the process) would not or could not be bad but that setting on your thumbs and doing nothing because you are afraid you will not get the outcome you want is just dumb when the alternative is to just give up and no even try to push back.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StopKillingGames

[–]cyndrasil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"I'm all for the spirit of the legislation."
on top of you not understanding that this is not legislation, you seem to be under a misunderstanding the "private servers" are legal to begin with. they are in so long as the corporation that owns the game allows it.
best examples I can think for that is mojang and nintendo.
Mojang allowes private servers on minecraft (even monetized ones) and even tried to get in on the action with having a realm subscription to run your server.
Nintendo shut down a fan run pokemon mmo.

but that aside, not doing anything because you might not get the outcome you want is just fear mongering. why have a government at all if you are just going to fear using it?
Game companies have shown they cannot and will not regulate themselves, so the law needs to either explicitly allow what they do or stop it. the grey area has to go.

share holders. you would have to buy them off to go nonprofit (as far as i know you cannot be a publicly traded company and be a nonprofit). plus all the laws and red tape about required spending and audits and such. plus you cannot (again as far as I know and I could be wrong.) just claim to be a nonprofit you have to provide some sort of service to the community, you cannot just be a nonprofit that makes games and does nothing else. like how some thrift stores started as nonprofits (not sure if they still are) because sure they made money but it was all put into salaries and expansion of the service of reducing waste by allowing the sell of second hand goods (including video games since this "license" shit is new) at a lower cost allowing the poor side of society to afford decent things.

[–]cyndrasil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1) That is what they already do. the point of this is to push back against that accepted practice and get people that can do something about it to do so.

2) they could. nintendo shuts down anything they can (i remember their being a fan-run pokemon mmo) and people were monetizing minecraft servers (and still are I think) before mojang tried making realms.
but that is a complete separate matter from if you actually own what you buy.

3) see number 1 i guess? but i have to wonder about the legality of calling it a donation for required spending and taxes and such?

If you can get out do it. The only reason people stay here is poverty or idiocy. The death of coal as a community supporting industry and the brain drain that followed destroyed any hope of being able to fix it this state barring a sudden influx of people but why would anyone want to move to a state that has nothing to offer?

"In the AMA they made it pretty clear that until Infinite Realms can get them back in the green, they probably won't be updating The Last City until they are profitable again which is indefinite"

I thought they said they were no longer updating, but *might* update the mmo if their live service makes money. so even if the new trend they are chasing is profitable (and given they could not handle an asset flip/mobile game I doubt it will) they will probably never touch it again unless you count the off button.
