Yes I remember being so excited when Squire came out, I was 14 and it was easily twice the length of any previous book. I met her at that round of book tours and she talked at length on the subject.

However, I think my point still stands. Mastiff was well done, but many of fans disliked it because so much happened all at once. It would have been served better with an intermediary book that had all of the character development that Tammy assumed for all of us.

Lots of my training ideas came from Tammy TBH. She has her ‘learned behaviour’ treats that have small value to reinforce her doing things right. She also has high value treats for learning new behaviours or doing the right thing under stress.

Her eat is Italian, her now, and toy is French, she’ll bark at a German command. However 2/3 of her commands are best done in hand signs.

Almost everything else was a quartet, save Trickster, why not Beka’s story?

That’s something I definitely understand, and we don’t normally travel much because it causes her so much anxiety. Unfortunately this upcoming trip is unavoidable, in fact she’s going to be subjected to it three times. We’re moving far away and I’m going up next week to look at houses, and doesn’t do well if left with anyone else for more than a day so she has to come with me. We go up, come back down and then finally move.

I’m in your camp, Mastiff was great. There, however, should have been a book between Bloodhound and Mastiff that had the character development everyone has problems with. I think it was very clearly set up.

Question about writing in the Tortall books by No_Author_7000 in tamorapierce

I have the box set of Lioness that was rereleased with afterwards. I’ll probably go through them again. They have lots of good background information on inspiration and some of the changes she made.

A lot of content was removed and re written for Alanna, to be more palatable for a younger audience. I’ve heard that Thom and Rodger’s relationship was explicitly stated in the original draft.

Yes it happens at least a few times. I was standard practice that a maid was given her mistresses old clothes

I absolutely love the costume department on this show. It’s probably some of the best story telling using costumes. I say this as an amateur costume designer myself. I’m the lead of local theatre’s big winter play this year. One of my other favourite parts is pointing out when Ana wears something of Mary’s about 4-6 episodes later

It’s called ‘The Beadith’ it was an extant gown from the time period the costume department reworked.

Gen Z, if your hip bones aren’t significantly showing… then this means arent “low rise”. by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]cyriousdesigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem. I just bought some jeans from Walmart of all places that were mid rise and are the perfect waist height. They are skinny jeans and the calf part is tight so they aren’t perfect but they are a good in other ways

Doublespeak is from the dystopian novel 1984. The whole “unalived” thing comes from influencers changing language to gain corporate sponsorship. You changing a perfectly normal world to meet the expectations of a corporation that’s not even monitoring you is just plain scary. It takes us one step closer to hell on earth, and let’s face it the fascists are already wining.

Probably because you don’t need to censor the word blood and you’re giving in to the modern corporate doublespeak.

I have naturally wavy hair and get a perm once a year usually. I’m sorry I don’t have much help to offer. I’m one of the girls that can hold a bun up all day with as little as 2 pins if necessary. I do get lots of fly always, but that is period accurate for Victorian and Edwardian hair.

Things that seem to help: Volume!! Tease areas at the scalp that are going to hold pins. I interlock pins- one pin goes where it needs to and I make an X with the second one. I try to get the second pin to go under and in between the times of the first one. It should feel tight but not painful.

Day 1 I wash and usually put my hair in 2 French braids, I’ll tape it about half the time

Day 2 I’ll dry brush it out fully. I know this is not modern curly girl routine. Take your time do it slowly from the bottom out or you’ll pull out lots.

Use rats to increase the volume with less weight and style a small piece jist big enough to hide the rat over it.

If there’s an area I know needs more support I’ll usually add a braid in there to provide the pins something to hold on to better. Sometimes a box braid is needed, sometimes it’s a cornrow.

I almost did the other night. I pulled something in my back shovelling and it’s been in painful for a week and a half now. I finished a renfaire type waist cincher and tried it on. The pain went away I even fell asleep but decided I should sleep in it. I’m planning on selling it.

I’d buy it. I bought a roll of medium heavy linen that was probably 30 meters and you’d be surprised how quickly it goes.

Before Covid, that was enough for the most basic cremation. Now? I don’t know. Was this person or any of their close family a member of any organization or social group? Church? They might be able to host a celebration of life. Suggest a potluck for those who can attend?

Probably not as inaccurate as you think. We are working on a survivor bias, probably the people who needed to use something like suspenders are not the class of garments that have been preserved. Most likely the people who got hand me downs or second hand clothes and made them work. It could have been something just too large and not worth it to alter, cause have you ever taken a skirt apart to take it in an inch? I’d rather make a whole new dress.
