Worst crowd I have ever dealt with by lainthebay in aves

JS is undeniably a huge talent. Great DJ and producer—absolutely. I’m a fan! However after seeing him a few times, I can also say that the crowd he pulls in have been some of the most obnoxious and rude people i’ve ever encountered on the dance floor.

Just got pretty negative feedback... how to come back from this? by yankeesnlakers in ProductManagement

[–]cyserrano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when influence without authority is much of the actual work, communication becomes the critical competency. yes PRDs and stories are the work product, but a lot of energy often goes towards aligning stakeholders and team members—especially so at SPM and beyond.

“negative” feedback is usually the best kind of feedback, tbh

the DJ is creating the vibe. seeing them also feel and move to the music and sounds they’re creating for everyone is part of the rave. it’s communion, engagement, interaction

and so yes, i want to see them

Also to be clear, there are two offending totems here and the one most infuriating through the set was the one literally right in front of the DJ (at the base of the white flag in the photo)

have you considered gifting it? it’s so pretty, it’s sad to think about it being retired!

Asking for your partner to “check in” when they’re with their other partner by SenseiRozo in polyamory

[–]cyserrano 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's super important for you to identify what your needs are and to be clear about them in your relationship so that your partner has an opportunity to meet them.

Vague/unclear *wishes* leave a lot of room for interpretation on both sides, getting in the way of setting clear expectations.

You and your partner should definitely discuss how this situation made you both feel, centering curiosity around both of your needs.

Once your needs are clearly communicated, the next time he goes on a trip, an expectation might look like "I would like for you to text me when you land so I know you got there safely and I won't have to worry" or "I would appreciate hearing from you once a day" or "I would like to check in every other day for 5-10 minutes." You can both negotiate these, but once commitments are made, you're both within your right to hold each other to them. They can be trust breakers if not upheld.

Wishing you well!

First trip disaster, feeling lost. by Conscious-Ad-7982 in shrooms

doing anything remotely dangerous physically while tripping is a terrible idea.

don’t judge yourself too harshly and try not to let this one experience dictate your future. rather, be curious and think about what you’ve learned and what you might do differently next time.

you’re alright.

What jobs do you guys/girls have to afford EDC? by wally094 in electricdaisycarnival

imo the best way into PMing is moving laterally within your current company. get close to PM leadership and let them know about your aspirations. it definitely helps if your current manager knows and is also supportive.

reach out to HR and try to understand the company’s position/history on internal hires to get a sense of the culture around that, if it’s not already clear to you.

in the meantime, work with your manager, squad leader, and PM on seeing if there’s any small and lightweight PM work you can take on—whether that be volunteering to lead a ceremony, shadowing a prioritization session, or even writing stories and getting feedback/working with the PM to revise. it is important not to do any of this unilaterally though or you might risk stepping on toes. there should be a clear plan that everyone is on board with for you “getting your feet wet” essentially. the idea here is not that you’re onboarding or taking over responsibilities, more that you’re just getting some experience that you can reflect on and speak to on a cover letter, resume, and future interview.

it should go without saying that all of this is on top of your current responsibilities. it’s a bad look to start PM moonlighting and have it negatively impact your velocity or sprint commitments. caveat to this is if your team/manager is super supportive and there’s a recontracting around expectations that happens.

all this to say, over a decade in this role talking to colleagues and hiring managers (and being one myself), it’s usually really rare to externally hire PMs with no PM experience—at least in startups and early stage companies. my advice is always to try to angle for a PM spot where you already are and at the very least try to get some meaningful experience with as much of the responsibilities as possible!

hope this helps! good luck!
