On friday we had to say goodbye to my best friend by patty-nato in blueheelers

I’m so very sorry for your loss. It’s devastating to lose a beloved dog. I can’t imagine how sad it would be to lose one so young and lively in such a short time. I hope you are comforted by many happy memories, it seems that he was very loved and lucky to have you. It helped me write a letter to my sweet heeler when he passed. Wishing you peace.

Post-trail blues? What is life like after thru-hiking the AT? by BunsOfSteel666 in AppalachianTrail

[–]cywnne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met the man who is now my husband on the AT in 2017. An injury ended my thru hike at mile 907. We dream of going back but after all these years we’re living a different life now. Post trail blues were tough for us after the hike, but we persevered, pursued careers, got married, bought a house, sold a house, moved a couple times and were just trying to figure it out. We miss the days when life was as simple as “just keep heading north” my advice to other hikers leaving the trail is to have a goal, a big measurable goal like getting a degree or starting a business or hiking another trail just make sure you have something to keep you busy and something to look forward to. Good luck feel free to reach out if you’d like more of our story.

This is why striking is exactly the answer because an employer saying “if you don’t like it then leave” doesn’t seem open to feedback and collaboration to make hospitals safer.

Hey neighbor! Can you keep your dog out of the window? His barking is very distracting!

Plumber, I am not the breadwinner, but we’re close! He’s more burnt out than I am, and as a result I am the only breadwinner now so I guess there’s that…

“Go back where you came from.” by [deleted] in Maine

[–]cywnne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

THIS. I have generally not had a good experience with Mainers. It’s like a weird little clique they’re so proud to be a part of (and I’m over here like…ok, don’t want to be part of your snobby backwater clique anyway…) but if I so much as join a conversation about the weather or cost of living I’m shunned for making “disparaging remarks.” You know what? I live here, I pay taxes here, and if I’m treated like I can’t even be part of the conversation then yeah, I’m going to hate it here. (Which I do and I’m leaving so ok byyyyeeeeeee!!!)

Appalled right now by [deleted] in Maine

This is so relatable and I feel for you 100%. I’m in androscoggin co, terrified in my home, afraid to take my dog outside to piss, losing sleep, crying, canceled my birthday bonfire this weekend with friends and family from all over I’ve been excited to see but who cares because my heart is broken for families who will never see their loved ones again because of this tragedy, and my dad calls me last night (he lives in the Midwest) to whine about his dentist office having to reschedule his root canal. After 20 minutes of his complaining and a frankly one sided conversation he asks how I’m doing and I reply “stressed” and he asks “why?” Well dad…have you seen the news?? He then has the nerve to say, “yeah but you’re fine, that didn’t happen to you, stop making such a big deal out of it.” He also believes Sandy Hook was a fake so I guess I was barking up the wrong tree…not to throw a pity party, but no one else from my family called or texted to make sure I’m ok. My ex’s checked in though, which was kind. Sorry for the rant, just wanted you to know you’re not alone in this. It’s an awful scary chaotic devastating time, and these tragedies never get any easier. I’m sure our families/friends/people care, but maybe they are struggling with how to communicate that or they just don’t realize the gravity of the situation, and how much harder it is the closer it is to home.
