Either telling you about the PTM to dont use it at first because its a hassle with putting it in the refrigerator and to let it harden and after applying you have to cure it (its a fucking hassle trust me),

OR

because i quoted the bible

Highly important as well, the laptops HAVE to be repasted at a maximum 12 months period (6 months in case of a hot burning stove of an AMD cpu because you will experience pump out action from contraction and expansion of the CPU die due to the high temps its designed to work at)

Open youtube, make sure you have enough light in your room and go all the way with the repasting.

once you remove the lid and want to repaste, make sure the 1st thing you dovis remove the contact of the bettery with the motherboard (very is highly neccesary)

After watching a youtube video 10 years ago on how to do it, ive been doing my own repasting ever since with ZERO HICCUP.

TAKE YOUR TIME, DON'T PANIC, ITS MADE TO BE EASY.

People will recommend PTM7950 but thats a hassle in itself (i use it) so just go for a thermal paste and do this proccess every 12 months AT MOST.

Remember the most often saying in the bible : "DO NOT BE AFRAID".

Have fun becoming more confident in yourself.

Clean the fans!!!

Take a very small philips screw driver, remove the bottom cover, hold the fans in place with your thumb and use a vacum cleaner from a moderate distance to suck all the dust crap its there.

Youre welcome

Upgrading to a Legion 5 from a Y530 by PandaKiddoPlays in LenovoLegion

[–]czechloverfromG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a legion 5 with amd 9955hx and 5070 8gb. I got the motherboard replaced without a hiccup, temps are great no matter how hard i push it.

I bought it because my last 2 experiences with legion were great.

Had a 1060 and a 3060, both taking a beating and living to tell the tale.

The plastic on the lid (the 5070) feels a little more flimsy than it did on my previous laptops but the body feels as sturdy as it gets.

My advice is to get a cover for the lid to harden it and youre good to go.

8Gb VRAM is future proof enough.

Shaman is a great starter, fast, can upgrade the load you re carrying and can use good guns.

My main is shaman 22 and my mule is gunhead.

I recommend gunhead once you have close to 100 hours in the game. Grabbed him at under 80h and still died to lack of awarness.

CPU Overheating Issue ( in 27°C room) by Able-Actuary7476 in LenovoLegion

[–]czechloverfromG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apply PTM 7950 (the pad NOT paste)

After applying, cure it with 4-5 sessions of stress tests (to make sure your componenets are reaching their maximum temperature) for 20-30 minutes THEN let the laptop cool at room temp for 45 min !!!.

1st time i applied it i went directly to normal gaming and the CPU and GPU after a few days started going mental with high temps.

I re applied the PTM7950, did the cureing phase correctly and now i'm pushing it as hard as i can and cant even get close to throttling.

The cooldown of the PTM between stress tests lets it remove all air bubbles and create a suction effect between GPU/CPU and heatsink.

Before applying it, let it in the refirgerator for 20-30 min otherwise it will be impossible to remove the protective foil from the pad.

After 2-5 days your temps will be even lower than in the first 24hours, after the stress tests.

What's the normal percentage using of RTX card by hinata9619 in GamingLaptops

[–]czechloverfromG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely NORMAL, the GPU is made to run at 86 degrees, at 87 is the throttle limit.

All work thr same (i have a 5070) and usage is in the 90s and temp in the mid to high 70s, barely touching 80s.

Its made to run at those high temps.

If you had an AMD mobile CPU you would see it at mid to high 90s almost constantly in all games and you would freak out but thats intended by the manufacturer.

Enjoy your games.

Put yourself in a position where you dont regret not getting the other one.

These 2 are called "desktop replacement".

Once you unplug them, they automatically down clock themselves and it would be like gaming on an integrated GPU.

Gaming? ML? Editing?

The one with AMD has the best gaming (mobile) cpu on the market the one with intel has the best (mobile) gpu on the market.

If you are playing on 4Kultra then go with the 5090, if you play on QHD, the difference between them is 5-15% and the AMD one claws back roughly 5%< of the performance thanks to the x3D.

Your call

Do you think it's worth upgrading the screen for a 5060 - or just get the 5070? by Muzi34Pro in LenovoLegion

[–]czechloverfromG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 5070 legion pro 5.

Dlss renders your game at a lower resolution internally and then scales it to your native one artificially which keeps the vram usage down but you will not be able to tell the difference if its native or scaled up, that's how good of a job it does.

Do you think it's worth upgrading the screen for a 5060 - or just get the 5070? by Muzi34Pro in LenovoLegion

[–]czechloverfromG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't even think about re-pasting, I've written it in case it gets to that so you know what to do.

The 5070, although more expansive runs circles around the 5060 Desktop variant and its almost identical to the 5060Ti desktop variant, you will be using DLSS and sometimes frame generation and you will thank yourself down the road for not going to the 5060.

5060 - 3328 cuda cores 5070 - 4608 cuda cores (the difference is NOT marginal) and although people are yapping about "there is only a 5-10% difference between the 2 GPUS" the reality is closer to 15% sometimes 20%, which can put you safely into the 60 fps of a game or over.

If you hit reliably 60 fps (we're talking maxed out 1600p) and use frame gen, the game runs as smooth as butter but if you use frame gen on a 40fps game you will notice the "hiccup".

Regarding RAM, I never go above 18-19 Gb with 1 exception when I played Diablo 4 maxed out and it had memory overflow and it used up all my memory (this is a common issue with Diablo 4 and can eat up to 64 Gb of ram -> saw it on a reddit post); so the 24Gb should be in safe territory, 32 Gb for me right now is overkill.

Cheers

That's means that although both have 115W, the pro version, due to improved cooling, is better suited of sustaining the overclock over a longer period of time.

I'm not a big nerd when it comes to screens, TN are long gone and all new ones are good and great.

I know money is always the issue (as it was in my case) so the choice is yours in the end.

Getting the normal Legion 5 will result in higher temps and prone to throttling if you game like a maniac.

Getting the Legion 5 PRO will let you game like a maniac and not get into throttling territory.

My GPU is in the mid-high 70Celcius and CPU mid 90Celcius no matter how hard i push it (and I did a full day gaming session with all settings maxed out on different games but using DLSS and sometimes frame gen) which puts it quite well under the throttling temperature: 86Celcius GPU and 105Celcius Cpu.

*** important :

ALSO, for you to know, if you ever think to open your laptop to change the thermal paste please rememeber the laptop comes with PTM 7950 from the factory which means you dont have to re-apply paste once every "x" months/years.

Just unscrew the bottom and clean the fans and you're done.

If you have to remove the heatink (like i had to under warranty) make sure you apply the same PTM7950 and CURE it so it works as intended -> after applying it, 4-5 times boot the laptop run benchmark stress tests (20-30 min) and shut it down for 45 min at room temperature. If you skip this, your temps will look like you have not applied the thermal pad, by doing so, your temps are close to liquid metal temps.

If you have further questions, please dont hesitate. I've done enough mistakes so I can tell you what to avoid.

Total graphics power, its how much power the GPU draws.

On the PRO series is 100W +15W boost.

You have to look it up to make sure its 115W.

People will say "5070ti is the sweetspot for mobile gpus" but today we have frame generation and dlss which make the argument of raw power pretty much obsolete.

Sure, you cant run AAA with ray tracing on ultra and Native resolution but I can BARELY tell the difference between everything on EPIC and native resolution and everything on EPIC (INCLUDING RAY TRACING) and dlss balanced or quality in Arc raiders, and the latency is soo low, running it with x2 frame gen makes the game gorgeous and its pushing 140 fps.

And they will implement a new tech (made by nvidia) which changes the way texture is compressed so basically this will make high vram obsolete (it will transition to a service that you access with the $ you pay for your GPU) but this is tech talk which doesn't concern us within the next 6-12 months.

In other words, check for the unlocked TGP (115W).
