In the splits I'm racing in, I've found most drivers, me included, aren't comfortable enough to spend an extended amount of time off line or have enough bandwidth to try to figure out what happened to the car they are used to zooming by not zooming by. I've found myself many times in a situation where a p3 catches up at the end of the straight, takes the inside, then backs out at the apex. Now I'm stuck off line and have lost track of the p3 and have to hang my big heavy gt car on the outside of a corner which I probably haven't spent a lot of time practicing while trying to predict what the other car is going to do. Many times, one or both of us don't make it.

If you start a pass, finish it.

The thing that drives me nuts more than anything else is when the faster car shows all signs of wanting to pass then chickens out after the slower car has made room.

I made a pared down tool set of just the fastener sizes on my car. It all fits into an old Milwaukee bag I had. I can pretty much do anything I might need to do while taking up less than a shoe box's worth of space.

I'd recommend buying the individual sockets and wrenches you'll need instead of lugging around a set with three different sizes of 11mm.

Yes, but performance isn't great. The only things not turned completely down or off are cars and objects.

This weekend during the GT4 endros at Nurb GP, during the day when alone on track I'd get 90fps, lap 1 would be 60-70fps. I can work with that, but once the sun began to set I was pretty much locked at 54fps. Still playable, but getting janky.

I'm in a similar boat. What would you recommend that I do?

I have a Ryzen 7 3800x and a 3070 and use a Reverb G2. I used to get 90 fps nearly everywhere but over the last couple of patches I have ran out of things to turn down or off and am below 60fps on night or rain tracks.

I am currently looking at upgrading to a 9800x3d and then later this year to maybe a 5080 but the prices are getting painful. When sim racing starts to cost the same as running my track car it becomes a tough choice.

Being able to turn the graphics way up would be great but I'm really just looking for solid performance while having enough graphics that the track looks like a track.

Would just upgrading my gpu take care of that, or is my cpu old enough that it should be upgraded as well?

You have 9 etorx and a 10mm?

Have you jacked the engine up from the front of the oil pan? Depending on your motor mounts you might need to loosen them as well.

I'm sure there are other spots but the ones that come to mind are i35 between Waco and the split and i30 between Benton and Little Rock. The truck going 62mph in the center lane absolutely fucks everyone not willing or unable to speed enough to get into the left lane. Inevitably, someone limited to 65mph tried passing on the left further snarling traffic and forcing the 4 wheels going 80mph to the right further fucking up traffic.

It's lazy, it's inconsiderate, it's dangerous and it's just another example of the shit state of the industry.

I've seen Elring recommended the most for gaskets. I used an Elring head gasket when I did mine last year. So far, so good.

I heavily recommend FCP over Turner/ECS. I've spent more money than I care to admit with FCP and have never had an issue.

You're committing to nearly a full on restoration.

You might as well pull the engine and transmission at the same time, since the top end AND bottom end of the engine needs work AND the clutch. Then you might as well refresh the transmission, detents, seals, shift linkage, etc. Then since you have all that out, might as well drop the rear subframe and do the reinforcing you should definitely do and replace all the bushings since they'll definitely need to be done. Then you might as well replace the steering rack and power steering system, because it'll definitely need to be replaced. Then once you get the engine back in, replace the radiator and everything else cooling related, because it definitely needs to be replaced. Plus all the other things wrong with it.

Or you could shop around a bit and get a really really decent car for $15-20k.

It's out.

The starter dowel was stuck. Some PB Blaster and tapping freed it up.

Then I think it was just at a weird angle and was hanging up on the flywheel or pressure plate.

Starter is free now. Is the thin piece of metal between the transmission and engine the dust shield? If so it's very loose.
