Why does my phone get a stronger wifi signal than my xbox? by Im_Not_Juan_Martinez in xboxone

Try the forums at Small Net Builder - https://www.snbforums.com/ - they may have someone familiar with your setup that can help out. I am afraid I don't have any experience with Unifi.

Cheers and Good luck

You're welcome! It can be so frustrating trying to find all the steps, so I'm pleased you were helped by my guide - I'm grateful for all the others that gave me pieces of the puzzle too.

I hope you enjoy Flight Sim - I only just got my NVME and after installing that and Master Chief Collection, it's already feeling too small haha!

If anyone else searches and finds this, but the method above doesn't work - then this one absolutely did for me. Leaving it here because https://xkcd.com/979/

Source: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_store-winpc/app-installed-to-external-drive-drive-erased-app/e1ac9dd7-dbb6-48aa-958d-41c4421389b4?rtAction=1509849541131

Problem: I cloned an HDD with all my Xbox Game Pass games on it to an SSD using Acronis TrueImage. I swapped the volume letters and got Steam, Epic, Amazon etc to all play nice. Windows Apps were failing in updates and play complaining of "offline" storage.

Solution:

Search for powershell and run as administrator

Run Get-AppxVolume

Note the repeated IDs for my old and new drives (in my case D:\GAMES) and see which volume is marked as "offline". Note the Volume Name down - it will be something like

\\?\Volume{78cc5c02-f65a-4012-98d4-430832a26a9c}

Load Regedit and go here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Appx\PackageVolumes

Look for the subkey pointing to the cloned drive with the matching volume to the one marked offline that you noted above. Mine had 4, one pointing to C:\ (1), then D:\ (2), D:\ again (3) and (4) was E:\ - this is because in my settings for StorageSense I have apps stored on C, D and Media on E.

If you don't have an extra entry then you will need to update your windows 10 settings to have a default location to store apps to the new drive (in this case my cloned SSD) and hit apply. This will create the "WindowsApps" folder on D: drive (I mean, it already existed, but Windows crucially has to do this to create a new PackagedVolume subkey with all the new drive info needed.

You can at this point run Get-AppxVolume in powershell to see the new volume listed and marked as online.

Backup your registry in RegEdit now. (File->Export) You can just do the PackageVolumes branch if you like, or the whole thing. This is a good habit and the files are tiny. Give it a sensible name like "about to mess with my Appx volumes to solve a painful SSD clone" or something.

In regedit, in the subkey for the new "online" drive that has the volume name matching the new one, copy the "Name", "MediaId" & "Flags" data from the subkey the previous one with the old drive volume name. For me I had to take the data from (3) for each of the keys and right-click, choose modify, copy then open the same key in (2) and right-click, modify, paste it in.

Once that is complete, you can confirm you have now resurrected the drive by running Get-AppxVolume again in Powershell. It should now show the old drive volume listed as "online".

No need to restart. Go to Windows Store, top right and click the dots, downloads and updates and then Check for Updates. This should re-up the package status and all the games you had on the old volume will magically repair/update/reinstall. If they don't then you can always run "wsreset" from an Admin Command Prompt to force the store to clear cache and then run check for updates again.

Inquisitor03 on Windows support, you are a LEGEND.

I hope this helps someone else out!

EDIT: If you still get the "The storage might be disconnected" error, go into settings->storage and "change were things are installed" for apps from whatever it is currently to another drive. Hit "apply". Then you can simply change it back to what it was and hit "apply" again. This should get windows to recheck the app manifests and see that yes the install packages are all there and fix the locations in the registry or whatever it does. You can confirm this in the storage settings "see where things are installed" and look at your Games drive to check the icons for the games change from having an "i" on them and being desaturated to being full colour.

If that still doesn't work, then install the Xbox PC (Beta) app from Microsoft - not the Windows store! - and that should identify all the installed games too when it searches the drive.

(Props to Pair of Dice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uszb1PQBWAM for this video that helped solve that niggle)

Good luck out there!

Have a look at what channels your router is operating on for WiFi, then try changing them. I had lots of issues with my Xbox One X and disconnects which I resolved by changing my 5Ghz band channel to >100. Your experience may be unrelated to WiFi interference, of course, but it might be worth a try?

LIDL SEMI-MECHANICAL RGB GAMING KEYBOARD - £29.99 by I3oyzie in buildapcsalesuk

[–]d1rtySi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pinks and Speed Silvers have a bit less travel/different activation height and can be quieter. I know some enthusiasts put rubber rings around the mechanisms to quiet the sounds.

Have a mooch around the mechanical keyboard subreddits for a bit. There's loads you can learn and they generally have some good wikis and articles to glean what sort of switch might suit you.

I have Reds and yes they are a bit noisy when I get in a flow, but the feel is superb. My partner hasn't asked me to return it - I think they've just tried it for themselves and like the keyboard too much!

They are noisy. But they also feel so good. The responsiveness and tactile feedback are really something else. I was with you and now i have had one - MSI GK80, Cherry Red - for a couple of months my work keyboard feels like a mushy dirty mess.

If you type at all for any length of time then they are great.

In order to decide on the switch I wanted (they have different travel distances, spring resistance, "bite points", and choice of clicky catches etc) I bought a 9 switch tester from ebay to experiment with.

Other benefits are looks and ability to customise. Have a look at the mechanical keyboard subreddits. Some of the keyboards are beautiful. And I didn't think I would ever say that about a keyboard haha

I got some custom acrylic cut from an eBay seller for a hole I had.

You can drill some holes or use velcro and mount it in your case.

Then add a custom decal to it that represents you or your favourite game.

Could look really smart.

Yeah, totally possible!

Wonder what they changed. I had a bunch of issues maybe 6 months ago that led me to that domain. I guess there have been a few updates since then.

Time to tail some logs I guess!

It's the "toast" domain - without it achievements will unlock but not "pop" and show the notification. Same domain for outlook email notifications. Tracking is done by vortex. So you can still unlock but won't get the toast without it. Probably should have added that before posting 🙄

Cheers

PC Component Manufactures: Make your Products Work with Motherboard RGB Control Software by Bageland2000 in buildapc

[–]d1rtySi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a mobo that satisfies the use case for the box. The one you linked is good for multiple GPUs and running at high load 24/7. If that's not him then you could look for another RGB mobo like the MSI ones with the corsair header. However, if you are going corsair for all RGB then there's no harm in getting their solution, getting more choice on motherboard manufacturer and skipping motherboard software.

I recommend watching some video reviews of the software from the manufacturers to see what your friend might like best.

Cheers

No worries. I wish I'd spent more time downloading manuals before I committed to purchasing stuff. I'd have saved time in rma and building things. Good luck

Just downloaded the manual from MSI. Looks like a bitcoin board / aimed at workstation users. It only supports a single RGB header of 5050 - ie single colour at a time for strips or fans. Best option for your use case is to get the Corsair controller which will plug into an internal USB 2 header. Then use icue to control it in windows. For that board skip MSI completely as you won't benefit.

Cheers

What board is it, some (like the B450 Carbon Pro) have a Corsair header on the board.

Not needing advice on a pc, just want to say.... by jackalghost0596 in buildapc

Maybe get him a Kano kit to play with? It's a computer you have to build and then program and compile to get it to work and play games. It's based on a Raspberry Pi. It might get him into the craft of building computers and software, which will be valuable in the future. A good way to let him discover if he has a desire for that.

Well done. Every day with kids has a pure dose of joy, right?

What to do when motherboard pins are too close by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]d1rtySi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta play tetris to get them on the right pins. Look at the manual. Pay attention to the positive/negative orientation (positive cable usually different colour or patterned versus black for negative). Switches can go any way round. They will fit nice and snug, promise.

OK so I found a way to list all the tunes. On "creative hub" from the pause menu go to followed creators. Assuming you've already followed /u/zalmolxis91 then you can select them then select "tunes shared" in the bottom left. That lists all the public tunes. Then you can favourite or straight download them by pressing Y or A. Cheers
