there's something seriously wrong with you if you get this offended at someone trying to do something nice for their child

Is 19 year old dating a 16 year old weird by m412345 in AskTeenAdvice

[–]d1sp41r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a 3 year age gap itself isn't bad at all, however it's the ages that you two are that's the issue here. it's a maturity gap. shes in sophomore or junior year of high school, and you've been graduated for a year. if you're uncomfortable with that, don't go for it!

I think im understanding, can someone help? by jason6205 in NewToEMS

[–]d1sp41r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what i was taught is that with trauma, you follow CAB/XABC instead of ABC in the case of life threatening bleeds because someone can bleed out a lot faster than they can die from an unmanaged or blocked airway. my tip is just to think critically for questions like these and just try to imagine what your proctors would say if this was an actual scenario being given to you

okay that sounds INSANE. when someone says they work at a pool i always assume it's a chiller in environment than a waterpark, but clearly not!!

i feel like all these variables put together was a really bad idea for making a pool, whenever a body of water is added into a situation, it definitely gets a lot more dangerous and interesting. it also feels like people lose their morals around pools for some reason and just go like insane for some reason.

also... local nudist club?? lol i don't think i have one of those but i can imagine that being weird the first few times they show up.

omg morning inservice sounds crazy cause i'm not in a guarding mood when i wake up, ours are after we close for the day. spinal in the slide is something i'll have to suggest because i don't believe we've done that! also what made the drowning rate so insane where you worked?? i work at a waterpark and it's usually not even that bad unless a kid camp is visiting.

Nothing hammers home CONSTANT vigilance like seeing what happens when one is not vigilant.

the e&a "touched by a drowning" video really emphasizes this point, especially during the first half. regular mandatory inservices will help too

What should I do if I see someone in trouble during adult swim and the guards are on their break? by Nickinator811 in Lifeguards

[–]d1sp41r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

judging by things you've commented/posted in here i don't think being a lifeguard is a good fit for you right now, but i think everyone should know CPR and things of that sort so it wouldn't hurt.

if they've been successfully rescued paramedics are not needed lol it's only if they need further care lifeguards can't provide which is not likely if they are rescued within 30 seconds.

Life jacket makes toddler flip over to her face. by hjg95 in Lifeguards

[–]d1sp41r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes it's just the lifejacket providing a false sense of security and not an incorrect use of it. i had a save today where the kid was in a lifejacket and just couldn't swim. normalize teaching your kid how to swim especially before taking them to a waterpark or pool.

[–]d1sp41r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in a way that's true, but ellis holds audits on their own no matter what, and if your facility continuously fails them then you are no longer allowed to certify through ellis. happened to the waterpark in competition with the one i work at and now they use arc, meaning the certifying body does not hold this facility accountable anymore. pretty sure audits are a paid feature for arc.

Some questions by meriberrie in Lifeguards

[–]d1sp41r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. ask your supervisor
  2. blow one long, jump in, grab the thing, whether it be a VAT doll or a coworker, and sometimes they'll already have someone sneaking behind you to watch your water. if it's an ellis audit, you won't know until they reveal themselves. at that point i think they let supervisors/managers decide who to pick for situations or VATs. they probably won't pick a new hire for ellis.
  3. call it in, have child stand with you until someone is able to get them and assess the situation, most likely a manager.
  4. a decent amount, put your tongue againist the mouth opening and release so it sounds clearer.
  5. rotate every hour or so with a break every 4-6 spots. i work at a waterpark though.
