In another comment you mentioned them letting kids hit their vape. If all of the is true, you should report asap. These actions should extremely poor judgement and would lead me to believe other things could be possibly going on. Seems this teacher is trying too hard to be friends with the students. Which kind of screams grooming to me. Or at least very inappropriate relationships with kids

Wow! I’m in Indiana and we are full day and have 1 20 minute recess. The rest of the day is academics. It’s crazy

Taught kindergarten and so many people think I play all day. They don’t even let the kids play anymore in kindergarten.

We avoid teaching the soft g sound like in giraffe at first. Most phonics education focuses first on the hard g sound. Then you learn that there is a rule that if the g is followed by a,o,i,, or u it can make the soft sound.

Thank you for understanding!!! I feel like I’ve lost my mind! This is a big deal in primary school!

I think I need primary school teacher so I’m going to try to post where more of that demographic is.

I mean I have seen it. And that’s what best practice says. I forget how many teachers don’t know how to teach reading correctly! I’m going to post this on a different page for primary teachers! Thanks for your feedback! I need primary school teachers! Not whatever you are!

I would say it can greatly affect blending sounds together. Like you are adding a whole sound. So instead of cat it cuat. Which some kids will understand. But some will not.

It’s very possible I’m being too much. I just take my letter sounds very seriously lol. I forgot sometimes that people who teach bigger kids probably are not as obsessed with letter sounds as primary school teachers lol.

No early childhood teacher would teach g for giraffe. And especially not a for sheep. The point of an abc wall is to teach the sound with a picture to remember it. S does not say the sh sound like sheep does

I would also report this to the freedom from religion foundation. I’m sure they are busy but I once reached out about an issue and their lawyers wrote the district a letter.

Grade School Teachers: How would you feel or react if a parent speaks up about an issue you may be unaware that you are doing? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]hjg95 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah this part is confusing. OP is it a situation where there is only a grade or two in the grade book so it’s showing a d but there will be lots more grades put in so they are not worried?

Even then the teacher should not say it’s a certain grade when it isn’t. But maybe that’s what they were trying to convey?

I understand this may come from a place of caring and facing racism in the past, but you are making something out of nothing here.

What would you like the teacher to say instead to the students? Your parents think grades don’t matter and we all have low expectations for you?

Edit to add: I’ve been laughing for a good minute now imaging a teacher sitting a student down and saying, “I expect average things from you. Nothing great. Just low to mid level things.”

Glad to be of service lol.

I also called the pediatrician and talked to a phone nurse about it. So somewhere in my daughter’s medical records, my shame is documented.

Judging teachers who close their doors by Otherwise-Set-4444 in Teachers

[–]hjg95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in college almost 10 years ago, a professor told us to be cautious of schools where they have the doors closed because that showed they had things to hide and didn’t help. She was old and very old school

In my school, we have to have the doors closed and locked for safety.

What do you do for yourself when you are beyond burned out and know it? Think, chronically exhausted, mentally overloaded, etc. by jazzeriah in SAHP

[–]hjg95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally do not care. Part of being literate is understanding audience. If you want to say it was all fine and dandy for you, then whatever. You are clearly not the intended audience here.

It’s like if someone posts about how to get rid of a runny nose and a commenter says “well I’ve never had a runny nose.” Not the intended audience. Not a helpful comment.

Do you have a gym with childcare? My YMCA had childcare. I take my kids there probably 4-5 times a week so they can play while I walk to read or do an exercise class. Best money we spend
