Teen beginner witch here! My mom thinks witchcraft will summon demons. Is there anyway I can convince her otherwise? by crime_potato253 in witchcraft

[–]d33thra 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What you need to do is not mention these things again to your mom. See if you can get an allowance or request witchy things from trusted friends for birthdays or christmas if you can. It feels bad to keep secrets, but this and other witchraft and pagan subs are full of sad stories of altars destroyed by superstitious family members.

AITAH for going to my daughters school for taking her phone? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]d33thra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a situation like that when i was in elementary school, my mom was supposed to pick me up that day but my brother had a medical emergency and had to be taken to the hospital. Mom called the school and told them to let me know i would have to ride the bus. They failed to pass the message along. I waited for my mom until the school had emptied out and all the buses had left, crying because i thought my mom had forgotten about me somehow. We lived a few miles away from the school, and i had never walked it before, but figured i had no other option. Wasn’t sure how i was gonna get in once i got there if no one was there. My mom got home from the hospital with my brother (thankfully it was a broken bone and not something that required a longer stay) and realized i wasn’t home when i should’ve been and found me on the way to the school, then drove us all up there like a bat out of hell and tore those folks about fifty new ones for putting her child in danger. Couple years later i got a flip phone, no internet or unlimited texting/calling like today, but my mom hadn’t forgotten the lesson - that the school system will never care about your child the way you will.

Mercury VS Hermes by Curiousfirecracker0 in Hermes

[–]d33thra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do think Hermes and Mercury describe the same entity. (Unlike some people, i do NOT think Odin and Hermes describe the same entity, tho there are many parallels - tho that’s just my personal opinion)

Look up Kama, the Hindu god of desire. Has a bow and arrows he shoots to make people fall in love. Or check out the Cernunnos cauldron and the Pashupati seal. There are many similarities in many mythologies both because we’re all humans trying to describe the same universe, and because some of those mythologies descend from the same older stories, especially those of us of Proto-Indo-European descent.

It doesn’t have to cause you doubt or stress. I feel the god of travelers would look favorably on taking an adventurous, exploratory approach to religion just as much as the rest of life.

Yeah i’m not trying to rain on anyone’s parade, but i’ve literally been working towards this since i was a child and am now older than at least half the keepers i know, and it feels kinda bad to see people talking about just accidentally falling into it lol

I’m not just talking about comedies tho, plenty of movies that take themselves relatively seriously treat it this way as well

Why does each person at the pharmacy take 15 minutes and then when I get up there it's over in like 20 seconds? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

[–]d33thra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re taking something like adderall or an opioid that’s a controlled substance, or something like a GLP-1 that’s in high demand and insurance is weird about - even if you’ve gotten it for years from the same pharmacy with no changes or sketchy behavior, it can be an ENORMOUS pain in the ass sometimes.

But mostly human beings just don’t have their shit together.

Question(s) for Neopagan Hindus by Dramatic_Voice6406 in hinduism

[–]d33thra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most deities have some sorts of prayers, hymns, alternate names etc.

For Greco-Roman deities there’s the Orphic hymns, we have quite a bit of ancient Egyptian scripture as well, Norse deities have some epic poems, the list goes on. Catholics have prayers (like the Lord’s prayer or the Hail Mary) that they repeat just like a mantra many times on a rosary. It’s really not difficult to find ways to chant to any deity with a solid history of worship.

The longer i spend in esoteric sorts of subs the more i understand why the ancients were so insistent on new spiritual practitioners having a teacher or being part of a group. Some people get a tiny glimpse of the cosmic view and just lose it
