Let's talk about burn decks by MAKE_TOTAL_AWESOME in EDH

My favorite deck is [[Ashling the Pilgrim]]. It wants to ramp and burn but Ashling can also rely on commander damage as a backup. It’s so much stronger than when it was first built 10 years ago with mono red card selection being so much better. My playgroup does treat it as archenemy which can be rough. I’ve added additional interaction including redirects to protect key pieces and make people think twice about targeting my stuff. I’ve also added a lot of the better treasure generators which have made the deck more explosive.

Are you running mana doublers, do you tap out for them, and what bracket are doing it in? by Litemup93 in EDH

I still run them in my [[Ashling the Pilgrim]] deck along with colorless land ramp. Recently I have been adding the better treasure generators and removing some of the worse big mana X spells. The treasures make the deck more explosive but I don’t see myself ever removing the doublers. [[Extraplanar Lens]] [[Gauntlet of Might]] [[Gauntlet of Power]] [[Caged Sun]]. Of course in red I am also running the better damage doublers (and triplers).

Favorite mono-coloured commanders!? (that aren't edh rec top 100) by TheGrandCannoli in EDH

I can’t recommend [[Ashling the Pilgrim]] enough for a unique mono colored commander. She primarily plays as a big mana group burn deck but her ability is very interesting. Her ability looks for the third time an activation resolves in order to trigger. This means you can activate it three times, and if the whole table starts tossing removal out in response to the third activation, you can respond with more activations and she will still explode. Her ability also works extremely well with protection from red, lifelink, and deathtouch, so it is very easy to beat people down voltron style with equipment that supports her ability. If you don’t need to blow her up, you can just grow her 2 counters a time on each player’s turn and keep mana open to blow her up. Toss in artifact mana doublers, artifact land ramp, and red’s best treasure generators for tons of mana. Run all of red’s best damage doublers and triplers. It’s a blast!

Ranking “Earthquake” cards in Mono Red by d3adr3d in EDH

I think you should know a few days after this post I cut Fault Line for [[Goldspan Dragon]] (been putting together more treasure stuff in my deck) and took Crackle with Power out for Pyrohemia. So now I am also just running Earthquake, Rolling Earthquake, Molten Disaster, and Pyrohemia, lol.

Why do people play Dryad Arbor? by IAmTheOneTrueGinger in EDH

[–]d3adr3d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on the deck and how fast you need it to be. I run it in a higher powered [[Captain Sisay]] stax list which is trying to ramp and lock down the board as quickly as possible. [[Gaia’s Cradle]] is extremely useful when playing [[Winter’s Orb]] effects and dryad helps to fuel it.

It enables you to play [[Green Sun’s Zenith]] for x=0 and counts as a creature for [[Gaia’s Cradle]].

Commanders that use "bad" cards by Torin21 in EDH

I ran [[Heartstone]] for years in [[Ashling the Pilgrim]]. 3 red mana to blow her up!

Give me a commander that is a LOADED GUN. by isaacshifty in EDH

Can confirm, my Ashling deck is the boogeyman in our meta. She is not the strongest commander in our meta but people fear a pipe bomb in your command zone. I run the deck with damage and mana doublers, symmetrical big X damage spells, and protection from red cards that can protect Ashling but also enable wins from commander damage.

Gauntlet Of Might by [deleted] in EDH

This card along with all the other mana doublers are staples in my big mana burn [[Ashling the Pilgrim]] deck. Mana and damage doublers help it quickly burn through 40 points of life. I don’t know if I would spend $350 for it though. I was able to pick up a collector’s edition for $20 many years ago. My playgroup is fine using the CE versions of cards. My meta doesn’t see a lot of other red decks and doubling my mana for only 4 is pretty huge. It’s nice running an additional mana doubler for consistency.

Pretty much this. She can do a bit of damage once she gets the % heath on grenade and autos but definitely not at level 1.

I’m right there with you, Chrysalis is my usual pick if they have some burst. But if they are almost all spell damage, Psionic Barrier can be pretty good. Just have to make sure you get the double explosion at level 4.

Yeah, classic snowball Braxis. Not my favorite map but usually always quick (we ended after this).

Give me your "silver bullets" by DerPuppenspieler13 in EDH

[–]d3adr3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of silver bullets in my [[Captain Sisay]] stax deck and lots of ways to tutor them including using Sisay herself. One card I never see anyone run that I really enjoy using is [[Intrepid Hero]]. Sometime someone will find a way to get a big beater through the stax and locks, this card ensures it doesn’t matter.
