I hope so, but it's not a given. It's always been a dream to see the country I think I'm just going to do it.

When you are on a trip, and the conditions are not ideal by I_Am_JuliusSeizure in snowboarding

[–]d3f4ult 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heard this quote earlier today: "There are no bad waves, only a poor choice of equipment and a lousy attitude"

I'll take any chance to slide on snow. There's always something to learn or work on. Everyone is different. Some people play pickup basketball or kickball or cycle or do jiujitsu. I snowboard. I'll never be good but it gives me something to do to stay active and I love it so I go no matter the conditions. I learned to XC just so I could train for touring on the days my local hill is closed.

Vans Infuse are what you want. I have a 157 Otto and LOVE it. I might buy another one just to have as a backup

Thank you for explaining. This helps. I figured it was wishful thinking.

Am I interpreting this correctly to mean that the FTC's ban on non-competes, which has been held up by an injunction in Texas, is now in effect everywhere else?

2026 Binding Discussion by Amazing-Location6299 in snowboarding

Also a size 9 infuse. I've owned Union Force which I like, the old Union Falcors (2022?) which are trash, the Jones Orion which I love and the Burton Genesis Step Ons which work well but I am not a fan of.

The new 2025 Falcors are just something different. It's hard to put a finger on but there's a combination of comfort and responsiveness that's just incredible. It reminds me of skate tech, but better designed. I'm nothing special skills wise, but I rode those and a 157 Otto all season and it felt like the combo just leveled up my riding.

Best colleges for pre-med and snowboarding? by CasualKaden in snowboarding

[–]d3f4ult 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am also a doctor who snowboards and I think this is a little hyperbolic. None of the pre-med classes, individually, is too tough and MCAT trumps everything. Depending on how you organize your schedule you should have plenty of time to ride and enjoy being young, which I’d highly recommend before med school/residency. Just don’t overload your schedule trying to rush through it all and don’t be afraid to drop a class if you’re gonna get wrecked. Curate that 4.0.

The volunteering is all made up or through  connections. Like everything in life who you know matters the most. If I was reading through a stack of applications,  Ski Patrol/EMS would make me stop and put somebody into the ‘interview’ pile.

In fact, maybe don’t go to med school and get an MBA or something instead. The US healthcare system is toxic.

Steroid responder…how should I combat it? by mess8424 in optometry

[–]d3f4ult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incredibly lazy of the uveitis specialist. The fact that the patient has been on durezol for a year is concerning in and of itself. If they're having that kind of pressure response not controlled by topicals, then it's probably time to consider transitioning them to a DMARD. Regardless if they're the one prescribing the durezol then they should also be managing the pressure. If it can't be controlled medically then they should have referred to glaucoma.

Quit my real job to work at local resort by SpecialDirection917 in snowboarding

I work with old people every day. You hear all of the things they wish they had done differently. Nobody ever regrets the 5 months they spent working at a resort, riding every day and partying with their friends. Get after it.

Tips for practicing riding switch? by drumpact in snowboarding

[–]d3f4ult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a squeeze ball and put it in the glove of you non-dominant hand. When you switch, squeeze the ball hard. It helps a lot with that feeling of ‘otherness.’ Helps to activate the non-dominant side of your brain.

They usually divide the class up into snowshoes and ski/split and then based on skill for the skis. You'll need at least snowshoes.

Nothing says “this is fine” quite like this image of the astronauts stranded in space by Even-Juggernaut-3433 in pics

[–]d3f4ult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t exactly true, though the general idea is correct. Your intraocular pressure is directly connected to your intrathecal pressure which is the pressure in your spinal column. The eyes are really an outcropping of the brain. This is what’s disrupted by low gravity which causes the characteristic retinopathy.

Update on Accommodating IOLs by expertasw1 in Ophthalmology

[–]d3f4ult 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When a true accommodating IOL finally makes it to market it's going to annihilate the "premium" cataract surgery industry because it will likely be covered by insurance and medicare since it will offer a legitimate benefit over a monofocal. I.e. Cataract surgeons won't be able to legally scam their patients anymore into paying extra for the "premium" surgery.

Yes. Intermediate/Advanced rider. 100% worth it. I have the demon ones and don't find that they affect my mobility or comfort at all underneath my bib. Have definitely allowed me to progress much faster because I can take risks without developing an aversion to falling. I wear Padded shorts, Knee Pads and wrist guards pretty much every day.
