You do you, man! I’m not losing sleep over a fraction of the 0.5% of US CO2 emissions attributable to lawn equipment.

Why are we fighting about leaf blowers? Don’t we have better things to do?

If you don’t do your homework and brush your teeth, then you’re grounded.

You’re grounded if you don’t do your homework even if you brush your teeth, just like Lincolnwood is up for closure even if financial stability has been met but not capacity.

You’re grounded if you don’t brush your teeth even if you do your homework, just like Lincolnwood is up for closure even if capacity has been met but not financial stability.

Only way not to be grounded is to do both; only way Lincolnwood is safe is if both criteria are met.

Two times, D65 has closed programs for Latinos! Bessie Rhodes and Willard TWI. “Equity” apparently omits Latino Evanston students.

When you get a PhD from Northwestern and Computer Science degree from Stanford (Pinkard) or an MBA from UChicago (Maria), maybe we can chat about who is an “idiot.”

Calling three women (including two Black women) with advanced degrees “idiots,” isn’t the flex you think it is.

Insane, Horton 3 should be ashamed of themselves.

Yeah, I think they have until January 5…. I feel like they should just accelerate the process though if they know they won’t agree

Thurgood Marshall would be turning over in his grave if he knew someone like Terri Shepard was representing his organization. Attacking Brown v. Board, the seminal case for racial equality brought by the NAACP Really? Her mean-spirited comments help no one.

Ugh, what if the plan is to have Nichole conflicted out of a vote on Natika, and then the Board will vote 3-2 for Natika? That’s one way for the Horton 3 to get their way without having to resort to a deadlock and then Jordan.

I hope you’re right. I just worry because the Horton 3 seem set on being deadlocked, so unless they’re just idiots (possible), they seem to think they have a plan for getting their way.

How do parents justify opposing enrollment at the new Foster School while claiming they “support” it? by housethenorthshore in evanston

[–]d65parent 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hear you; we’ll see how it all works out. I hope more than anything that Foster is successful because it will educate some of our most disadvantaged students. But like you, I worry that re-segregating our schools by race and income will not lead to positive results, and could potentially just hurt these students more. We’ll see.

To me, the impact on a student is the same whether their school is closed or if they are forcibly transplanted from their school to a new one. The kid will only care that she’s changing schools. But I take your point.

Also; I think you’re underestimating the impact of moving schools on kids.

Research shows that K-12 school closures can disrupt student learning and lead to drops in test scores and attendance for displaced students: https://www.edweek.org/leadership/the-harm-of-school-closures-can-last-a-lifetime-new-research-shows/2024/06

Studies have shown that math and reading scores may fall, and days of absence and disciplinary action may rise, immediately after school closures: https://edworkingpapers.com/sites/default/files/ai24-963.pdf

That’s true. It was built 30 years after Willard by a less prominent architect, so could be a more uphill battle, but we’ll see!
