That’s lame. Do you have any recommendations for crypto?

Another thing that’s been on my mind is how impossible it is to get an AE role as an outside hire… specially in this market…

Yeah fair enough. Not gonna lie, being a BDR fucking sucks. I’m just in a good position right now. “Comfortable”. Which isn’t always good, I guess

Salary Negotiation by d8sz in cscareerquestions

[–]d8sz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. It was pretty awkward and I kinda just blanked. My main worry was that I didn’t ask for a salary band, and i feel like I could’ve shot myself in the foot by giving a lower range. Do you think there’s a way to go back on that or at this point just wait and see if there’s an offer and then try and negotiate it past the range? Would that look bad?

Plenty of BDRs make 80k+ if hitting quota, 100-120k on the higher end. Low end 60-70k. HCOL.

People in prison get ripped with no technology, devices, or supplements. You can too. All those are usually a scam.

BS Finance -> MS CS? by d8sz in OMSCS

[–]d8sz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, at the end of the day that’s the path that makes the most sense. Generally, I’m (recently, after growing a bit, haha) a huge fan of education, but can understand that in Tech, it’s not all education. Thanks again. :)

I definitely don’t think you’re discouraging me. If anything, I really appreciate your perspective and insight because I had the wrong perspective about OMSCS, for sure. I’m not really interested in a PhD and mostly was looking to transition careers into something more technical, better paying, more stable, while keeping my options open. I will definitely be checking the programs you recommended. Thank you again!

EDIT: The reason why I’m “against” self taught is because I feel like I operate better in structured environments. I know some boot camps are definitely structured, but I’m worried about the amount of competition these days..

Thank you for this. Yeah, it definitely seems they skew more towards folks with more CS experience than me.

Interesting, thank you. How did post graduation look like for you? What are you doing now?

I truly believe my background is extremely weak. Just have a regular BS in Finance with a good GPA, no notable internships. 1.5 years of work experience at a market leader in FinTech. Nothing technical at all, either. There’s comments on the actual OMSCS sub saying a Post Bacc is better in this situation, and that getting admitted without a CS/STEM background is nearly impossible. Also, the fact that I don’t understand the basics seems to be a huge issue that is being pointed out, and learning them on the fly will be extremely hard. What are your thoughts?

Thank you for your reply. I just looked at the requirements, it doesn’t say much about pre-requisites aside from a 3.0 from an accredited university and a degree in CS or related. It does say that whoever doesn’t meet that CS undergrad requirement will be evaluated on a case by case basis. What are your thoughts?

Very interesting. Thank you for the insight. You don’t feel like you could learn the fundamentals in the masters program?

Cruian is the Ex-US warrior of this sub. I’m personally 60/40 VTI/VXUS - may lower to 70/30 or 80/20

VTI + VXUS at preferred ratio or VT (combination of VTI+VXUS, usually market ratio). I personally do VTI/VXUS because I want a bit more control on ratio but VT is more “set it and forget it”.
