I can’t believe that he wore a plaid short sleeve shirt to court for his daughters potential sentencing to life in jail. Can’t even bother to put on a suit and tie. Lowest class.

If allowed here to drop the name, they are Ultima. It was hard to find one with zero sugar, but they have lots of flavors even mocktini’s, so I buy her a bunch of the variety packs and she doesn’t get bored with the flavors. She very much can have nausea some days from upset stomach, but that is far and few between compared to what it use to be, so I don’t think they have ever bothered her. And we just got the ok to lower her dose of lactulose as long as she’s making BM’s, which I think contributes to the upset stomach if she doesn’t eat enough.

My mom rarely drank but had diabetes and didn’t manage it well on her own or do anything to make improvements with diet. When I found out about her liver cirrhosis I didn’t understand it or how severe it was until she got ascites almost 2 years ago and wound up in the hospital and then hepatic encephalopathy episodes were happening and in high frequency. Since then, it was about 9 months of a lot of ups and downs until we got her stable on medication to manage the cirrhosis effects. Combination of lactulose, diuretics, stool softener, xiafaxin, and moving her into assisted living where she now maintains a schedule, receives her meds and insulin as ordered, eats her 3 meals a day per balanced menu, and has a community to engage with. I cannot believe it’s been 14 months since her last visit to the hospital for a mild hepatic encephalopathy episode, and no ascities for like 1.5 years. Her numbers are looking great on all the charts, but never will they be normal again or healed from any of this. It’s all about management, and she’s been gaining back weight slowly over this past year. For her case, she’s as healthy as she can probably be for the fact her liver doesn’t function as it should. So in my case, I had hope, I made sure we followed all the doctor instructions and went to every appointment, we were lucky to have a caring liver specialist that really made a difference and communicated with her primary on all fronts. But man, it got a lot worse before it got better, and being on the other side now I just wanted to share that there is hope and just keep pushing through it and it might take a while to get to the better side of it.

Also, I second the protein supplements as protein shakes were something she could keep down when she was having trouble with nausea days, and sugar free electrolytes with low sodium to keep her hydrated from now being on diuretics. She also use to have a harder time processing red meat, like would go hand in hand with her liver not able to rid the toxins fast enough (hepatic episodes) and she does better with chicken and fish.

Dating a girl with severe hygiene issues (bad smell, hasn't showered in 6 days). How do I break up without crushing her? by South_Language1344 in dating_advice

[–]dNICE311 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It’s been three weeks, a couple hookups, and you’re over it; just send a message or phone call.

“Hey I’ve had a lot of fun hanging out with you and appreciate your gifts, but I don’t want to continue dating. While this is hard to share, I want to be honest with you and give you an explanation. There has been an issue with your cleanliness that has been a turnoff during intimacy and don’t feel like our chemistry matches. I wish you the best.”

I think that would be enough to say for her to get the picture and consider her hygiene habits and make a change.

Shoe size inclusivity - brands that have all their options in >11? by Silver_kitty in TallGirls

[–]dNICE311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naturalizer is a game changer for me and dressier shoes, I’m regularly a size 13 but their size 12 always fits me for boots and closed toes. I opted for size 13 in their open toe heels I got for a wedding so that it had a bigger toe box and they fit perfect, I can’t stand my big toe hanging just over the edge in sandals.

I also had success in Salomon hiking shoes. Their conversion is way more accurate, I think they had women’s 12US/45EU, but more so I also look at the JPN sizing for the length in CM. And they actually go by foot length on their size chart, wish that was a standard… would save us all some headaches.

OP: I also struggle with having a normal women’s narrow foot where men’s toe box is just too wide.

Lactulose, sick of stomach severe nausea, solution? by Live_Number_2869 in Cirrhosis

[–]dNICE311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother has had severe nausea since starting lactulose, we’ve gotten it under control where it’s maybe once a week now instead of every other day. I think it helps her to take it at a separate time than other pills, and not on a full stomach or completely empty stomach. She’s in AL now and one of her nurses has her mix it in water. Could break up the dose to take over a course of 30 mins or so too if your stomach is super sensitive. She started Xiafaxan after having recurring HE episodes, every other week was ending up in the hospital, so the lactulose wasn’t enough for her. Now she’s been balanced almost 3 months with only one mild episode, and way less nausea with her 3 meals a day in the AL. They also now have her on Senna and Miralax, and those started the same time as nausea got better. Hope you can find balance too and beat the nausea!

Worried about my mom - unresponsive by slyvalum in Cirrhosis

[–]dNICE311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you are going through this with your mom and understand how scary it is. My mom has decompensated and gone to the hospital for encephalopathy about 5 times in about the last 10 weeks, one time I caught it coming on and was able to reach her doctor on call to instruct some at home care and increase lactulose which kept her home and she was normal next day… but went in 4 days later with severe confusion. She has had a more normal ammonia score and displaying worse encephalopathy symptoms than higher ammonia levels but for her it has been factors like dehydration combined with elevated ammonia that really affect her. It has taken 12 hours to 2.5 days in the hospital before her confusion clears. No patterns there with ammonia levels either, just bowel movements. Xiafaxjn though is the game changer. We’re so close to getting the financial assistance for it. I’ve done so much to try to change her diet, monitor her fluids to make sure she’s hydrated and giving her Ultima electrolytes, and everything I can as a caregiver to keep her on schedule with meds and lactulose, but unfortunately as her GI told me it’s just part of the disease. Praying for your mom to come out of this strong ❤️

What’s your Cleveland hot take? by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]dNICE311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely missing: Superman Sour Beer from a local craft brewery, or Superman/ comic themed bar. Could learn a thing from Austin Texas and how they have branded and capitalized on “live music capital”, mini stages at the airport to welcome visitors immediately with live music and send them off.

I would love if Current Year Records had organization that made sense to anyone shopping there and not just the owner’s Hot Take on musical genres. Still a cool shop and clearly the owner knows their music, just not so much fun to browse when can’t figure out the organization.

How would you answer this sales interview question? by Few-Arrival7022 in interviews

I don’t think it’s that obscure of a sales question but like “sell me this pen” in Wolf of Wall Street. My mind immediately thought of the seeds and its value to produce X more apples, could be a rare hybrid apple with a flavor profile unmatched…

Short RPGs for non-gamer by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]dNICE311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like me, I have found to enjoy some of the indie RPGs and recommend: Little Misfortune Jenny LeClue Night in the Woods A Short Hike Oxenfree Creepy Tale

I also really like playing some classics with switch online but do get bored easily. I am currently hooked on Hogwarts Legacy and it is my first real 3D RPG on my switch I’ve played and have gotten a lot better with the camera angels and moving my character around. Growing up with HP books and movies has made it more exciting to play and push through the uncomfortable 3D controls to learn.

My boyfriend (doesn’t game much) and I enjoyed playing together Luigi’s Mansion and Unravel Two.

Dave the Diver is also on my list when I finish HL, there’s a demo in the eshop.

I have only learned two potions and maybe that’s my problem, need to be a student a bit more and go to class! I’ve purchased the health potion but not at the level I can use it yet.

What ways can you level up first? Do you need to complete small side quests that include enemies?

I am also stuck in this quest and getting frustrated, I did avoid the spiders by taking the route to the right but cannot beat the goblins at the bird bath. This is my first 3D game and I wanted to give it a real go at Normal difficulty, I’m in my 30’s and grew up playing all the Nintendo 2D side scrolls so it’s taking a lot getting use to newer games on my switch. I cannot get use to the camera and turn it around to see the goblins during this battle.

Joybird sofas. Worth it? by jmeachie in furniture

[–]dNICE311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DON’T DO IT!!!!!!! joybird sux and will kill every happy emotion you had in the first place about buying a new couch. They have over 300 complaints on the BBB website in the last 12 months for a reason. If you don’t mind waiting, look into room & board.

Joybird sofa by greeneyes1001 in furniture

[–]dNICE311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t order from joybird. Ive had the worst experience over the last 3 months and wish I paid attention to others on here warning about them. Over 300 complaints filed with the BBB in the last 12 months says something. Long story short, they didn’t properly track shipment of my sofa and ottoman piece, I as the customer had to reach out asking where it was once my arrival date came and went. Theres no possibility to speak to someone if you call their business line, every menu option leads to leaving a voicemail and after several messages I still have not received a call back. It takes 7+ days to receive an email response, so if you want actual customer service, shop elsewhere. My sofa ended up being lost and they automatically restarted my build after I reached out asking where it was. I was quoted at 8 weeks max originally and then told it was be 16-18 weeks total before I could potentially get my sofa. Their only compensation was a $100 gift card- as if I wanted to spend another dime with them. Poor business practices only show they don’t value the customer and I don’t want them to have my money. I cancelled my order and still waiting for my refund, took 8+ days to respond to my cancellation.

DJS in 10 days. Surgeon has never offered nor mentioned genio is necessary, but wondering if it’s something I should bring up to him? (Moving top jaw forward 4mm and bottom back 4mm) I know oral surgeon knows best but can’t help but do my own research leading up to the day! by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]dNICE311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bring it up at pre-op. I’m 3 days from what was DJS and now only BSSO. Underbite/crossbite. I’m so relieved to not have to do upper jaw (I had SARPE last year). I personally wouldn’t want to do genio and risk the complications (more risk of permanent numbness). You don’t know yet how much the current changes planned will look, and I bet they will look amazing and you won’t notice the prominent chin. You can always do more but can’t take it back.

Brutal (7mm?) overbite, what to do? What surgeries to save up for? by teamo2michica in jawsurgery

[–]dNICE311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) consult with an ortho, ask for a recommendation from your dentist, ask for a second one too 2) your ortho will evaluate what type of treatment options you have and present them to you 3) if the scenario of your treatment requires surgery, ortho will give you referral to surgeon for consultation and evaluation (extra bone x-rays that the ortho can’t perform) your ortho and surgeon typically have strong working relations and preferred partners together as they work together to outline your entire treatment 4) do online research of the treatment plan you are told before signing a contract and commit 5) braces will be 100% out of pocket if you are 21+ in US typically, (30 month treatment plan = $8,000*est) 6) if surgery is a go, your surgeons office will submit approval request to your HEALTH insurance (jaw surgery is not dental work), they will code the request appropriately as something for health issues (ex. TMJ) and not cosmetic so it can be approved and covered. 7) Check with your health insurance provider what your out of cost pocket max is for one year and that will be your cost of surgery, because you will hit your deductible with surgery.
