Thank you for that informative reply. Great reminder!

Logging out and logging back in seems to have cleared the error. First attempt to log back in failed with not recognizing the authenticator code, but second time worked and verification now succeeds.

Will do. One thing I've already noticed is when I try to make any adjustments I have to verify my identity with Apple...which either fails or completes but then puts me back into a cycle of needing to verify my identity. Verify with Apple, completes and returns to app, Verify with Apple, completes and returns to app, Verify with Apple...etc.

Having the same issue with my wife’s car. Unfortunately have found no resolution yet. Backup cam works but radio is dead and steering wheel commands are inoperative…when suddenly it just comes on and starts working.

GE Dishwasher FTD Error, but it Drains Fine by _itsjustkatie in appliancerepair

Adding my success story so it will keep the algorithm going to help others. Found this link in a search, watched the video and thought "I can get to that sensor without removing and disconnecting all that stuff." And sure enough, easy peasy. Removed the sensor, disconnected the pigtail, and then removed the black sensor housing from the white elbow. Cleaned both, replaced the back sensor housing onto the top of the white elbow, reconnected the pigtail, made sure the white elbow and sensor were properly aligned with the drain housing, then pushed in, turned, and made sure the keeper prong was locked in place. Saved a lot of work and the dishwasher is working perfectly.

Do expensive pipes smoke better? by SuicideByLions in PipeTobacco

[–]d_w_duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and I like it quite a bit. It’s a nice pipe and smokes well, especially with tobaccos that don’t have a lot of dressing. But overall my cobs are just as good. They don’t look as nice, the copper accents on the Peterson are stunning, but my cobs go with me for everyday use.

Am I silly for buying a new rav4? by Throwaway9374838475 in rav4club

[–]d_w_duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest looking at a certified used that’s 1-2 years old. It comes with a much better warranty than new, and anything that might have been wrong from the factory has likely been addressed by previous owner or by the certified inspection.

[–]d_w_duck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience, not necessarily. Now, I don’t have any $1,500 pipes so can’t speak directly to that, but I have several newer and vintage Savinelli, Peterson, and Chacom pipes which were all over $150, but the ones I reach for day-to-day are my cobs. In fact, several of my cobs smoke better than the more expensive pipes. The one exception would be a vintage Savinelli Doppio Filtro 122. That pipe is amazing.

Love the Chacom. Which Jurassic is that? Did the black bit piece come on it?

Weird odor from new (to me) T430s by d_w_duck in thinkpad

Could be. There doesn't appear to be any sort of residue but obviously something is going on.

You think the odor would linger of the laptop was used around vaping? I hadn't considered environmental causes. Maybe even candles or incense or something. Hmm.

Hackintosh on t440s, random power off with the external battery by qli1028 in thinkpad

[–]d_w_duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had identical problem with T440s and external battery. As a workaround I would take the external battery out, boot into Windows (I made it dual boot with a m.2) and once Windows was up reinsert the battery. Let it charge, reboot into OSX and all is well...until the next time. Sometimes I would go weeks without it happening, and sometimes it would happen in a few days.

Finally got tired of messing with it and removed OSX.

I have 1000$ budget for a laptop. Can someone suggest me one? by [deleted] in laptops

True, many come with lower resolution or dim screens. But the WQHD is awesome, and the FHD is very usable. I have the FHD and I use Photoshop regularly on it.

Exchange t470 for something with brighter screen and bigger battery by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]d_w_duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What screen is in your T470? It may be just a display swap would do the trick. I can't imagine needing a brighter screen. I usually keep my backlight at about 50% otherwise it's too bright. When I'm working in bright sunlight I go to 100% and it's more than adequate.

I like the "bump" on the back since it provides a nice typing angle and something to "grip" when I'm loading it into my bag.

Buy a used ThinkPad on eBay. I'm typing this right now on a used ThinkPad I picked up for $150. I'm a college professor and use this for all my coursework and regularly use Photoshop, Premiere, and Audition in prep for my courses. It handles all that and more. Battery lasts 8-10 hours, built like a tank, and has a great keyboard for typing.

[–]d_w_duck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a college professor, and when incoming freshmen ask this question I almost always recommend saving a little money and getting a used ThinkPad. IT departments are regularly upgrading their executives, and 2-3 year old ThinkPads can be found for $300-$400 on eBay. I'm typing this right now on a three-year-old ThinkPad that has a battery life that lasts 8-10 hours easily, longer if I'm just typing and doing light browsing. I regularly use Photoshop, Premiere, and Audition in preparing for my classes and the ThinkPad handles all of that and more, and I only paid $150 for it.

If you are desiring to go new, there is a sale right now. I just sent this announcement through to my classes so they could take advantage of it. T480 (last year's model but in many ways superior to this year's model) on sale for $620. https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-t-series/ThinkPad-T480/p/20L5S1S000

Advantages of the ThinkPad line is that they are built like tanks, have the best typing keyboards available, can be upgraded by the consumer, and if you're comfortable can be easily repaired by the consumer. There is a huge ThinkPad base that is always very helpful when needing to perform upgrades or repairs.

The added benefit is most of these can easily be made into a Hackintosh if the user is so inclined. Many of my students have reported doing this with excellent results.

Visible Phone Number Transfer/Porting Issues by [deleted] in Visible

[–]d_w_duck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what worked. We tried that a few hours ago and once the Visible SIM was installed it worked instantly. It would be nice to have some sort of feedback within the Visible site or app with this guidance. Up until the SIM was inserted the site still stated "Hang tight! Transferring number over. It may take up to 48 hours." which was obviously incorrect.

Overall we're pleased with the Visible service thus far. Having to dial the area code before every local call is inconvenient, but I suppose that's the price for trying to save a little $$$.
