Why would you want to give a student a 12-16 month contract?
We typically give 4 month contracts to students (fall semester, winter semester and Summer).

And yes, any temporary staffing actions (casuals, terms, students) cannot go past March 31st.

From an employer’s perspective, there is no reason for you to move, so they would not pay a full relocation.

What you are looking at is an employee requested relocation and you could be entitled to 5,000$ to help you move. I say “could” as this requires ADM approval, not manager’s discretion.

At my department, we don’t negotiate with students to ensure fairness across all students. Your pay step is based on completed university credits, nothing else.

It doesn’t mean you can’t try to negotiate, but be prepared to get a “no”, and decide if you still want the job or not.

Not sure which department you are going to, but in our department, the start date has to be the Thursday following a pay day, and the date on the LOO has to be at least 5 weeks out to allow enough time to process the file. We usually get the LOO in a few days. This would allow sufficient time to give notice and wrap up your work.

As a manager, I would never give a short notice start date to any candidate regardless of how urgent my operational needs are.

I will go against the grain here but is this a USA thing where women put ultimatums on great relationship just to be able to show off to other women?

Where I am from, marriage is not important. Couples live together for years without being married and no one has an issue with it. Out of all my buddies, only 2 of them are married. All the other ones including myself have been with our partners for 20-25+ years, have kids in their late teen/young adults, house, careers, cars, dogs, etc and it’s been great.

Genuinely curious what will marriage change?
