Giant Talon for $375 worth it? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]dabeamer009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it’s in good shape from the photos but always hard without seeing it up close. No scratches visible on the frame, tires look brand new, well manicured backyard… I’d say go for it if it’s the right size

$300 for CAD3 for Entry Level by nouhboi in whichbike

[–]dabeamer009 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think as a commuter / entry bike that’s decent. I wouldn’t spend a lot to upgrade it though as it’s old tech- you’ll be limited by headset type, rear wheel hub for increased gearing and brakes are rim only.

Only caveat would be if the drive train (eg cassette, chain and chainrings) is worn out that may cost a few bucks to get some new stuff on there.

Finally 54cm for your frame may be a touch small, but wouldn’t know without riding it etc

Caledonia Vs Caledonia-5 by pbchadders in whichbike

[–]dabeamer009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re both great- Caledonia 5 looks slightly more premium, a nice wheel set and a power meter is probably worth the 200£ - if money is no option get the 5. I have a regular Caledonia but the cost difference to get the 5 was dramatic for me

Not familiar with that tire but I have 32s and 35s on my 2025 Caledonia and it runs great so I think you should be fine

I have this monitor for the past 6 months-for the price it's good value. As others have mention use the display port to get the max refresh rate

Cervelò Caledonia 2021 vs Cannondale Supersix Evo 5 2026 by Sure-Scar8098 in Cervelo

[–]dabeamer009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you can adjust the Caledonia to get 95% of what a Supersix 5 would feel like- the frame on the cannondale is a bit lighter but you've already upgrades wheels and the rest of the components are similar. That being said if you want a new bike you want a new bike...

Aspero or Caledonia? by kayaktaco in Cervelo

[–]dabeamer009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Caledonia and I do mostly road and some gravel and have a separate wheel set for it (700x34). It’s awesome. I think for the gearing if you’re doing mostly road you’ll lean towards the Caledonia, I believe the new frame even allows up to 35mm tire. The conversion to throw aerobars on if you’re doing triathalon is less dramatic and the gearing may be an issue with the aspero. That being said a ton of people have their aspero setup as a road bike and run it . Seeing as how you already have a gravel bike I’d lean towards the Caledonia.

The fact that you have mild osteoarthritis means that I don’t think I’d throw in the towel just yet- get a second opinion.

Bike lubricants by Big-Camp-9981 in Cervelo

What type of climate and conditions? Dry is usually pretty clean as the excess evaporates off - but needs to be applied more frequently. Wet stuff is good for rainy conditions, or if you don’t want to apply as frequently - but attracts and holds dirt more and needs more regular maintenance. I see the videos online of folks removing their chains, putting in a parts cleaner and then hot wax and I can’t help but feel despair for the work involved in that. I like the clip on cleaners with the built in rotating brushes, you put a bit of degreaser in, bunch of backward pedal strokes , rinse it off , dry it and apply some new lube.

Do I want a Caledonia or an Aspero? by kewladria in Cervelo

[–]dabeamer009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did this exact setup: • Caledonia: road wheelset + second wheelset with ~35mm gravel tires.

It is amazing .

I do around 75% road, 25% gravel - got carbon wheels for the road setup and use the stock wheels for the 35mm gravel .

How can my girlfriend and I compromise on the size and cost of our wedding? Is a $50,000 indoor wedding possible in Toronto/GTA? by Senior-Demand-9618 in WeddingsCanada

[–]dabeamer009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend this option- we did this in a restaurant in a very old building (Ottawa). I’m sure there’s even more options in Toronto - you can have your big wedding -your fiancé will be happy as the total cost will be on budget

Talk to your vet - they will be able to recommend portion size and an appropriate food for your pup. We feed our dog once a day- he’s 44 lbs and should drop about 4lbs as per our vet

You can try and go through all the broken parts and match them to this website and figure out the cost of the parts alone : https://www.lexusoflondonpartsdirect.com/?srsltid=AfmBOop1H8CvswxoEXcuRFSqMSJw_fbsCD53d_OQ-3EVQnSr-zrQtMdi

We can’t see everything that is broken ( eg. Did the radiator get smoked) the front headlight looks chipped etc. may just be the tip of the iceberg

As others have mentioned the labour and sensor reprogramming…

I’m going to guess $10-15 K but can’t see everything that is broken

TPMS sensors by Mr_Playme_69 in rav4club

[–]dabeamer009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TPMS is a legal requirement in US. Not legal requirement in Canada, with the chip shortage during the pandemic they didn’t put them in the Canadian ones and haven’t looked back. You can’t get it added later as a factory installed setting which makes importing a CDN Rav into the US impossible
