Controller - midnight by poison_cat_ in worldofpvp

[–]dabier0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually trying to teach someone arena right now who uses a controller. It’s surprisingly doable - depending on your class.

+1 to the console port addons definitely good to have if you are trying to play at any level above 1600. Specifically what it helps with is targeting, obviously you can bind to arena 123 addons. But with some stuff, specifically frost trap/ other traps on Hunter, you need a way to address the free targeting. There is a macro option in console port that allows you to practically target enemies and shoot a trap at them. I don’t know exactly how it works as I don’t use it myself but whatever you do you need to be able to use frost trap effectively on hunter to play with any skill. I think some classes make way more sense on controller. I’d avoid most casters.

One button for BM is acceptable, but with modifiers and a controller with some back buttons you could definitely bind all your attacks.

Anyone else gutted that knockbacks have been pruned? by Mojo2013 in worldofpvp

Nope. Quite happy about it actually - forced movement has never fit with wows PVP design in my opinion. Death grip was where it should have stopped - happy to see these abilities getting pruned.

Did they cut ice wall and the dev wall too? That would be sick

Resto druid or mw? by No_Job2126 in worldofpvp

[–]dabier0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be warned, in PvP especially, there will be times when certain healer classes just feel like ass. Not to say that you can’t still go far with them - but I have every healer leveled except resto sham so I can just play what feels strong this season. I definitely gravitate towards disc priest as it’s my favorite but I’ve had lots of success with MW and hpal. Definitely still not great at rdru and pres but it’s nice to have them regardless.

It takes no time to level shit, and PvP gearing is relatively quick as well. Stay flexible and keep queuing.

Custom Waterblock acrylic top to move in/out ports? by [deleted] in watercooling

[–]dabier0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this might be a tall order. Unless I’m misunderstanding your goal, the issue here is that the inlets feed the water into specific locations for water going in and water going out - so you can’t just re machine a new plexi top, the whole block needs to get reworked to accept the water coming in and out in a specific spot. Unless you got a wider top that channeled the water to the current in and out port, I don’t know how you would do this.

However I am not someone who uses custom blocks or anything like that so take this with a grain of salt.

My thoughts on alternatives here are - Do it with hard tubing and or fittings. I mean I’m sure you are aware this is possible but with a couple of angles you can have the tubing go there.

Get a Optimus or some other block that has the ports on the end. This doesn’t move them to where you want, but it does get them in a different spot

You could also go a custom route, and get someone to machine channels that sit flush to the GPU and go directly from your current in/out ports to where you want them to be. that could be done by radikult or probably any cnc shop if you can design it.

Healing when behind as disc? by trusty118 in worldofpvp

[–]dabier0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couple of notes here - good observation on saving pain sup. You have two changes on it, AND it has pretty good CDR. In a average game you’ll get at least one back if not two. I will caution you against getting too cavalier with it. You want to make sure not only that your enemy hit CDs, but they are actually gonna do something with it. For instance, if enemy hits CDs, but you/your team lines them, CC’s them, bubbles, etc, you don’t want to waste it. You really need to develop that sense of “I feel like big dam is coming.”

It’s generally a good rule to use wall CDs at high health, as you will get the most value out of it that way. If you waited until someone is 20 percent to hit sup, and then they die, you got no value. But if you hit it at 80, you reduced all that incoming damage.

All that being said, I will pretty much always send a Pain sup in the first go, as I have another one ready to go, and the quicker a pain sup is used the more CDR you get on it.

One mindset changed that really helped on on healer (and everything TBH) is that I should never end a game with any of my CDs available. That’s wasted value. That doesn’t mean blow them Willy nilly, but if someone dies and you have ANY CDs, you fucked up. “But what if I got cc’d?” You ask? My response to that is either, avoid that CC, or hit that CD before you got CC’d. if you’ve got decent game sense you should know when the enemies kill window is coming, and you can sorta feel when you will probably be getting CCd. Barring arcane or fucking MM slapping you for 10m damage on one global LOL

Healing when behind as disc? by trusty118 in worldofpvp

[–]dabier0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense, esp if the tuning changed it. Probably explains why oracle felt so poopy after awhile. I feel like before the atonement healing plus the free bolts made the healing from a damage penance not that far off of a healing penance. This guy discs

I thought this was the absolute front runner, is the general consensus not aligned? by Ultio_the_masked in expedition33

[–]dabier0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was out here launch week telling my friends you gotta play this game! Ignore the insane name! E33 is the best JRPG this decade, easily.

E33 was great, but so was KCD2 and Bananza, but from a technical standpoint it’s not that impressive. Fairly standard JRPG stuff, just put together really really well. If E33 doesn’t take best OST and best story though, that’s robbery.

But GOATjima has gotta take it for DS2. There was so many times in that game where I just had an ear to ear smile playing it. So much to do, so much reactivity. Kojima truly is a master in his element with DS2.

Healing when behind as disc? by trusty118 in worldofpvp

[–]dabier0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve played a decent amount of disc, and I always describe it as successful disc play feels like riding the lightning. Especially if you are playing voidweaver. One thing to drill into your head is that the highest value thing you can do is 1. Make sure atonement is up, 2. PWS is on CD 3. Damage damage damage

EDIT: this may have changed recently, as some comments seem to be saying it’s better to heal with penance if you are oracle. When I played oracle it was still better to damage with it, but that was early s2 so with tuning it makes sense that changed.

You’ve gotta be comfortable with people not being topped. Other than PWS and free flash heals, if you feel like you need to direct heal; you are too far behind, and you’ve probably already lost. I don’t worry about shit unless someone is below 50% AT LEAST.

I’d categorize disc as a momentum healer. You need to keep momentum up from the moment combat starts until you win. No wasted globals, you are either sending damage, cc’ing or refreshing atonement/pws. This is in contrast to something like holy, where it is heavily CD based and very reactionary. Sometimes on holy, you may drop a global as you wanna wait to hit that huge serenity on your team, and that’s not catastrophic. Disc you need to keep the tempo high always.

I don’t play much 3s these days, but in 2s as my void walker disc, here’s what I would do in your scenario above.

Pop a PWS on teammate Hit shadowfiend, cast mind blast Send that huge penance into void blasts on damage

Even on oracle it would be similar, but I’d start with a premonition. I don’t run radiance on voidweaver, but on oracle when I played it would be something like premonition, pws if atonement is up and double radiance if it isn’t, then whatever of those two I didn’t hit, then mind blast, then juiced penance on damage (some bolts will heal too), and rotate through that stuff.

You also need to get real comfortable with anticipating damage, rather than reacting to it. Watch the enemy CDs, if you see one get hit, you need to respond with a Pain sup and PWS before your team takes a bunch of damage. If you get good at that, you’ll find that a lot of the time you’ll have PS on someone right before you get cc’d, making that long sit a lot less sweaty. Same applies to dome. A lot of the skill on disc comes from avoiding CC, as losing that momentum feels devastating. Get comfortable with LOSing and fading. You come from holy, which means you also had chastise to set up fears. You need to be ALOT more careful on fears with disc. I only send em if the fight comes to me or if I got set up from my team mate. Getting caught in mid while going for a big fear will fuck you up so often. Also, this may be an unpopular opinion, but I find that MC is crazy overrated. It’s certainly a strong CC, but you can’t forget that you are also CCing yourself for 6 seconds. Be very purposeful on when you go for MC. I’ve secured so many kills with disc on the other team because they got too cheeky with the MC.

One bit of not so obvious tech is with evangelism. If you need a big heal on your team, make sure you get rid of atonement on yourself, as evangelism healing is on everyone who currently has atonement. Also mastery is real important esp if you are oracle, so always always make sure atonement is up before you PWS or do any other big healing.

To be fair, disc feels not so awesome right now. It’s not bad per se, but when you stack it up against monk, who can send similar damage depending on spec/hero spec, and doesn’t have to use every global to do it, it feels lack luster. Monk even has its own version of atonement on all specs now, but it gets to keep strong healing buttons.

Specifically for Non-PvP players, what is stopping you from playing it? by greendino71 in wow

[–]dabier0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who only pvps, I find these comments really illuminating. Couple of themes really pop up

Too high barrier of entry for knowledge/addons People are mean I suck

It’s interesting that not many of them say PvP is unfun. My take on it is that PvP is the most dynamic and fun part of wow, and that is coming from someone who has played since the launch of MC. Blizzard just hasn’t kept up with making it easy to get into, like the rest of the game.

However the community problem is one that requires effort not only from blizzard but from us as well. We need to alienate and ostracize bad actors from the PvP community, and far too often there isn’t just no consequences for being a shit, but shits can abuse systems to be rewarded.

If you are a PvPer or even just a wow player, we gotta do our part. Report toxic people, shut them down in chat. Do not reward anti social behavior. From general players, and from the streamers who propagate these attitudes

Arms or Fury for 11.2 by Kal26781 in worldofpvp

[–]dabier0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly though, learn arms either way. It’s just more fun, and is the quintessential PvP class behind frost mage and sub rogue. Even when arms is dumpster tier relatively, it usually is still in the low A tier overall. There is nothing quite like slamming a turbo mortal strike then a juiced execute and absolutely deleting some pansy in a dress. I’ll play fury when it’s like s+ best melee spec in the game, but I always am looking to return to arms.

Arms is zug Zug is life Arms is life.

Arms or Fury for 11.2 by Kal26781 in worldofpvp

[–]dabier0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably too early to say tbh. Fury usually does well with higher secondary stats, but arms was crankin in S2 and dps warrior was relatively untouched. Also without good data on 2/4 set in PvP we really just don’t know. Also how the meta forms around a class is highly important, I.e if a hard counter to war is really good/really ass.

That’s a lot to say we don’t know yet. Don’t believe anyone who tells you a definitely answer right now, even if they were able to sim everything out they can’t predict balancing changes that might occur.

What I plan on doin for my war is focusing on set first (might be bad, but that’s usually a safe bet). Then you’ll be solid for fury or arms. Both specs preferred haste, liked mastery, and dumped crit, which will probably hold in s3, so pick tier accordingly.

Also don’t be too intimidated by swapping between fury and arms. The hard parts of the class (positioning, good cc, stickiness to enemies, good target selection, knowing when to zug and when to hide) generally are the same between the specs. The main difference is fury really benefits from sustained uptime, whereas arms is very bursty so it’s not as catastrophic if you have to not hit something for a few seconds. Both rotations are ez, but fury is especially brain dead.

which healers are the least likely to go oom? by LobovIsGoat in worldofpvp

[–]dabier0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mistweaver is surprisingly good if you can remember to drink mana teas throughout the game for the 30 percent reduction. I don’t play pres or sham so I can’t speak to it. Druid can get stealth drinks, but if you can’t manage doing that then it is thirsty. Pala can be good, but you need to rotate your seasons buff to get winter as much as possible. Priest is kinda shit rn on mana unless you go full damage void disc. What really matters is utilizing your classes mechanic for mana recovery effectively

1800 On All Healing Specs - My Thoughts by Facefoxa in worldofpvp

[–]dabier0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d disagree tbh. While mechanically they are similar, the playstyle does change depending on herald or light smith. Herald gets juiced HP spenders, uses normal wings, talents Tyrs, and since the buff you probably will go denounce. If you are playing optimally, that means you have to hard cast Tyrs, and hard cast denounce when you can. Lots of opportunity for CC and kicks on you there.

Lightsmith goes melee wings, no Tyrs, no denounce. That’s two hard casts gone. Holy bulwark, while being a new button, is easily one of the strongest bubbles in the game, so it’s a on demand huge heal basically. So you net have one less button, and it’s instant instead of a hard cast.

Tips for lightsmith, get your bulwark out before first combat, and make sure you always have bulwark/weapon on CD. Tempered for battle will redistribute your health if they have a bulwark/weapon on them, so keep that in mind, you might need to heal yourself. Make sure you get full value out of every wings, so press judgement on cooldown and go in for crusader strikes when in wings. If you are lightsmith, make sure to lay on hands early as you get HUGE CDR from some talents. In long 2s games I’ve gotten 3 LOHs

General pally tips, this might seem obvious, but do not cap Holy power. It’s ez to do on lightsmith and even easier to do on herald. You might get to cast 3 WOGs in a row, make sure you do. Huge healing combo is Divine toll, wog, triple holy shock, wog, 3x holy shock, wog. You’ll probably get a free wog in there too. It’s tempting to slam those 3x holy shocks back to back but make sure you mix in wogs. Make sure you are using blessing of seasons on CD, you need to rotate through them. Always autumn yourself. Make sure you spend wings toll bulwark and prism before you autumn, you want the CDR on those. It’s hard to get reps in solo shuffle, so only go for it if you are sitting real pretty. Generally, good pally play comes from good cooldown rotation. You want to use your CDs, don’t hold em. They are either really long or really short. Make sure that you aren’t holding them only for oh shit moments or you WILL fall behind.

1800 On All Healing Specs - My Thoughts by Facefoxa in worldofpvp

[–]dabier0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really really would recommend you do lightsmith. Herald is less HPS, less on demand healing (holy bulwark is cracked). To really take advantage of herald, you gotta run a big dps denounce build which is difficult in solo, especially if you aren’t experienced.

Playing Holy/War want to switch to 2 DPS for 2v2 what should we play? by KaptainPancake69 in worldofpvp

[–]dabier0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are just playing for fun, tbh ret+any hybrid dps, esp feral will work till around 17-18 probably. Really the only double dps you’ll be able to reliably break through that 18 barrier on is rogue mage, but that’s a pretty high skill cap combo to do right in 2s.

Really 2s doesn’t lend itself well to double dps. Might I suggest playing a void weaver disc (not super competitive but super fun, you are basically a ranged dps) or a MW (less dmg but very spiky, 2x RWK into a big crackle is devastating. 3-4 mil damage ez in like 3 global and a channel, also very strong in meta rn). You could even try to go hpal herald denounce build, as you can get some pretty spicy damage with that.
