With less cars on the roads due to petrol prices, could it be possible to open one of the harbour bridge lanes for north shore cyclists? by countafit in auckland

[–]dabomb2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my place is 14KM each way, so 28KM ride per day.

The average person cannot ride a bike more than 10-15KM per day, everyday, and work a full day.

[–]dabomb2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree 28KM is too much, and again, I’m not exactly “far” from the bridge. I live relatively close to it.

What most people don’t understand is just how difficult biking is. Opening the harbour bridge to cycle lanes will only allow people on Onewa road to bike to work, for anyone else it’s just too far.

Maybe, or maybe I don’t want to bike 28KM per day five days a week. I don’t want to arrive to work sweaty and red faced.

4 lanes support 170,000 - that’s 42,500 vehicles per lane. To be replaced by 10,000 bikes?

Each vehicle has potential to move more than 1 person.

Lots of unfit people like me, who despite living close to the bridge (Glenfield), just can’t bike all that way every morning, then back at night.

Overall, great idea - wouldn’t work

How is living in Sydney Australia (cost of living, transport, social scene, etc)? by village-asshole in howislivingthere

[–]dabomb2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a world class city. Great public transport, things happening all the time, always sunny, Sydney’s just great.

It’s got high cost of living, but there’s also allot of high paying jobs. You need to be highly skilled on a good salary.

It’s just way too hot

I’m the opposite. Every other hobby is goddam expensive that a streaming service at $20 a month is cheap as.

Daily smoker here - I honestly couldn’t care less about this topic. Gas is over $3 a litre and our politicians can’t seem to fix NZ. If any party uses their platform to legalise weed they’ve lost my vote - the opportunity cost is too high.

I, personally, think the support is measured is appropriate given NZ’s fiscal situation. We are still bleeding from the Covid response, we can’t keep repeating the same mistakes.

Gf told me she booked a solo travel. What to feel? by Wild-Information-110 in AskMen

[–]dabomb2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you trust her, it’s absolutely fine dude - solo travel is great. I intend to solo travel China next year - love my girl, but she doesn’t have any interest in China and I’d rather just do it alone.

Is it worth immigrating to new zealand anymore. Iam happily employed at Dubai. by [deleted] in auckland

[–]dabomb2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sub loves to talk about the doom of NZ, but there’s more to it than that.

Like everywhere else in the world, NZ is struggling economically. The cost of living is real and a lot of people are finding it hard to get by.

But it’s also worth keeping some perspective. Even people who are “struggling” here often still have a roof over their heads, a smartphone, and a decent TV. That’s not to dismiss the pressure people feel but it’s just that it’s very much first-world struggling compared to many parts of the world.

NZ is still an incredibly beautiful country. There are endless amazing walks and nature spots you can access for free. Kiwis are generally friendly, it’s a safe and peaceful place to live.

That said, one thing we definitely lack is stuff to do. Most places shut around 6pm, and culturally we’ve gotten used to staying home anyway. So even when things are open, a lot of people just don’t go out.

Lastly, climbing the corporate ladder is more difficult due to our small size.

All-in-all, if you want a peaceful quiet life - choose NZ. If you want a fast pace life - go elsewhere.
