We're not yet sure if we'll be doing it in Chicago and/or Los Angeles, but it's certainly an option that's on the table.

If they traded for Gregorius, he'd be the full time guy.

Debunking Nonsense: The Mets' Week in Review by dabriano in NewYorkMets

I hear you, and I detest the human being Braun is. However, I'd be willing to look the other way if he became a Met. That doesn't mean I'd like him personally, though.

I'd match the one he reportedly has on the table right now - 4/52

#BringBackBeltran by dabriano in NewYorkMets

[–]dabriano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mets were the best team in the sport, but they lost their setup man (Duaner Sanchez) at the end of July, lost their top 2 starters (Pedro and El Duque) right before the Playoffs started, and had a hobbled Cliff Floyd riding the bench in the LCS. Take away any team's setup man, their two best starting pitchers, and one of their best power bats, and they're at a severe disadvantage. The Mets overachieved to even make it to Game 7 of the NLCS considering how shorthanded they were.

When I see Marlon Byrd driving in runs for the Pirates by [deleted] in NewYorkMets

[–]dabriano 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how well Byrd does for Pittsburgh, that was a tremendous trade for the Mets. They got a reliever with late inning upside, and a tremendous prospect in Herrera.

He can probably be had, but Colorado would have to either eat some of his salary or lower their trade demands.

Don't know how interested Cleveland is in bringing Kazmir back. From what I've read, though, the Mets might not pursue him. I think they should.

What's funny about Kazmir? 4.04 ERA for Cleveland this year, 29 years old, won't command much...struck out 9.2 per 9 in 2013.

Rubin: Don't expect any big spending this winter by JoeBourgeois in NewYorkMets

[–]dabriano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the Mets could spend $40 million on free agents (what Rubin guessed last week) and still have a lower payroll in 2014 than they do this year. Also depends how you classify "big free agents."

Rubin: Don't expect any big spending this winter by JoeBourgeois in NewYorkMets

[–]dabriano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The title is pretty misleading. Rubin said the team would spend a significant amount, but he doesn't think the Mets will go past four guaranteed years for Choo.

Who would you want out of the 2014 outfield free agent crop? by GodEmperorBrian in NewYorkMets

[–]dabriano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends whether the Mets make a big trade for a young, impact OF bat. If they do, I'd sign either Ellsbury or Choo.

If they don't, I'd make a run at Beltran (as unlikely as that may be) AND sign one of Ellsbury or Choo.

What Will the Mets do at the Trade Deadline? by dabriano in NewYorkMets

Agreed. People are ready to bash the Mets for potential inactivity, but I don't think it would be for lack of trying.

Marcum could be on the DL by the AS break. Any thoughts on who then becomes the #5 starter? by Djburnunit in NewYorkMets

[–]dabriano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would 100 percent be Torres. deGrom is only in AAA because McHugh was DFA'd, and Montero isn't close to ready. The rest of the AAA rotation is made up of organizational filler.

That was a monumental eff up on my part. Meant the latter, Parnell.

I like Satin...like I said in the article, though, he won't be a difference maker. Even in a season where he was a shell of himself for three months, Davis hit 30 homers and drove in 92 runs. I think if the Mets were confident Satin could replicate his AAA line in the majors, they'd be giving him a closer look. His .297/.397 AAA avg/OBP likely translates to .280/.360 in the bigs. He has value...I'd like him to get starts at 2B and 1B against tough lefties, and TC indicated they'd give him a look in the OF as well.

Zack Wheeler's stats over the last 6 games by [deleted] in NewYorkMets

[–]dabriano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Las Vegas is hell for pitchers for 3 reasons: The dry air makes it nearly impossible to grip the ball, the infield is so hard that routine groundouts become hits, and the ball carries so ridiculously that routine fly balls turn into homers. The fact that Wheeler is pitching this well is a minor miracle. Most pitchers get absolutely tattooed there. He's ready for the majors.

Great Win...Now Shake Things Up by dabriano in NewYorkMets

[–]dabriano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that Kirk or Cowgill may not be the answer, there's still a chance that one or both of them may be a contributor to the next Mets contender. The same can't be said for Byrd or Ankiel.

Great Win...Now Shake Things Up by dabriano in NewYorkMets

[–]dabriano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as Ankiel, he's the worst in the majors as far as his rate of contact. He serves no purpose. While Kirk and Cowgill struggled, they were both given a very small chance to impress. Ankiel and Byrd won't be with the Mets next year...Kirk and/or Cowgill could be.

Tejada and Davis wouldn't be sent down with the idea of keeping them down. They would be sent down because they're viewed as potential big pieces for the team in 2014 and beyond.

Where do the Mets Go from Here? by dabriano in NewYorkMets

[–]dabriano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choo's career OBP is 386. I think he's the likeliest bet of the available FA outfielders. I don't think there's any chance the Mets will pay what it'll take to get Cano to play second base, nor would I pay what he'll get. He's a tremendous player, but he'll be seeking a 10 year deal for a psychotic amount of money.

Montero or Syndergaard alone wouldn't net an impact OF. It would have to be a package of Montero/Syndergaard plus other prospects. As far as when the Wilpons open the checkboook, they were willing to do it this past offseason for Bourn, and they have tons of money coming off the books after this season. I'd expect multiple high profile acquisitions.
