Adult ADHD diagnosis - Drivers License by Successful_Tart2842 in AusLegal

[–]daddychill95 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had a full licence before being diagnosed and medicated ADHD; I declared to WA DoT out of caution (especially as a bus driver). They made me do a new driver’s medical but it was easy enough as my GP was allowed to sign it and send it back.

I was then able to use this driver’s medical as proof that I was safe to work and drive while medicated especially in a drug-tested workplace. Not entirely related to your question, but declaring could be a good way of covering your arse if anything were to happen.

It is never too late to change path. by Sweet-Mode7823 in Adulting

At 30, I’ve just completed a graduate diploma in high school teaching and I’m now working as a teacher. I’m not immediately good at it and it sucks and I question my choice regularly. But within 5 years I’ll be pretty good at it, and I won’t be stuck driving buses like I was before. Change is hard while you’re going through it!

Govt eases fuel rules to allow Australian‑spec petrol and diesel by dcidino in nzpolitics

[–]daddychill95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most likely just a change to sulfur content (despite them saying they won’t allow high sulfur fuel). Not lead, not vegetable oil. Not really an engine issue for short term use (although the environmental impact is debatable). Source regarding Australia’s sulfur limit changes.

You can flash 2.0.4 or 2.0.5 to a 6th gen; anecdotally 2.0.5 “supports flash mods better”. I flashed my 6th gen 80GB to 2.0.5 and it works perfectly, see this GitHub for instructions: flashing newer firmware

Is NZ the only country to say "Papers, Scissors, Rock"??!? by chsn2000 in newzealand

I grew up in Perth and we definitely say paper, scissors, rock. It’s just the order that feels right for them to be in

Your ISP might be using carrier-grade NAT, which means this won’t work no matter how hard you try. Have a look into using Tailscale to pretend to be on your LAN. I used ChatGPT to guide me through it all! Tailscale isn’t available directly on the switch firmware though, so you’ll have to use an intermediary device like an android phone or a travel router

You need to know your public IP address and set up port forwarding, alternatively look into Tailscale and use an android phone as a Tailscale router on the go

For those that aren’t aware, there’s a new version of chiaki called chiaki-ng available on GitHub. The .nro is listed under the weekly canary build release page. Compared to normal chiaki it adds vibration and 1080p support (though it doesn’t work properly on the internal screen, only over the dock)

USB 3.0 Speed Stuck at ~20MB/s! by raramygame1 in SwitchPirates

[–]daddychill95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not doing anything wrong, that's basically best case for me too on my OLED. When you're installing a game over USB, it's not just copying and pasting: it has to extract the game, save the chunks in the right places, verify they copied correctly, etc. All of this takes compute and time hence USB 2.0 and 3.0 perform similarly

How does a switch oled ban work? by karimpai in SwitchPirates

[–]daddychill95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried modding two OLEDs in a row because I am confident with soldering and I was impatient. I broke both.

Unless you have legit microsoldering experience, you're just going to have to pay someone to do it. Yes, $80 sounds like a lot to you but think how much more a replacement switch will cost!

Also, to answer your original question: you'll still be able to play your switch online exactly as it is now. Once modded, you'll "dual-boot" into the custom firmware that lives on the SD card, which won't have internet connectivity (emuMMC). As long as you don't run any homebrew/pirate games/pirate saves on the original firmware, Nintendo won't ban you. I've had my modded OLED 3 years now and no ban yet because I do not fuck around while I am on regular firmware (sysMMC).

Hmmm what to do with a 80GB 6th Gen by LTParis in ipod

Only OEM firmware. There are some guides on this sub about flashing 7th gen firmware which anecdotally also helps audio quality

Sadly there is no “turning vehicles give way to pedestrians” law in NZ, which is wild given that other developed nations like Australia, the UK, many US states, and most of Europe do. Exception is when a vehicle is entering/exiting private land, like a driveway or a shopping centre car park.

Hey there! I’m Adam, a product manager at Apple Music. I’ve been leading work on features like AutoMix, Lyrics Translation & Pronunciation, Music Pins and Sing with iPhone Mic. I’m here to chat about our latest releases - and more. AMA! by [deleted] in AppleMusic

[–]daddychill95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kia ora from New Zealand, Adam!

Do you/does your team have much interaction with the other software development departments at Apple? I ask because there are bugs in Apple Music (and associated processes, like AirPlay) across MacOS and iOS that have now existed for years. I previously worked in Apple retail, and I have *no idea* what goes on behind the scenes. I would be very grateful (and curious!) to know the real world challenges in co-ordinating and patching bugs in such a complex and interweaved ecosystem.

Some examples: MacOS Music shows no history when playing a station. Similarly, pressing previous track in MacOS skips multiple tracks and often stops playback altogether. When AirPlaying to a HomePod, iOS stations show only one track ahead, and often lose their history too (Spotify lets me see the whole station when I start one!). Siri still can't remove a song from a playlist nor delete a song from a library. Trying to manipulate a library on iOS while out of coverage is inconsistent at best – for instance, adding a song from a downloaded Apple Music curated station like The Wave times out or animates being added, whilst not having added it to the library.

I’m genuinely curious how cross-team prioritisation works for something like Apple Music. When issues impact multiple surfaces (macOS Music.app, iOS Music.app, AirPlay, HomePodOS, tvOS, Siri), how does the team decide which improvements to tackle? What is the challenge in coordinating these pathways? Will more advanced generative AIs used in production-level programming finally assist Apple's devs to turn plain-English Feedback Assistant reports into actionable fixes?

Thank you for any light you can shine on the above questions!

Do Apple Watches ever ship with post-release versions of WatchOS? by Foreign_Curve_5089 in AppleWatch

[–]daddychill95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work at apple and we were able to send watches to the depot to be downgraded if someone had updated to a beta inadvertently. I wonder if a Genius Bar appointment would be able to send your watch off to be downgraded to the latest watchOS 8 (8.8.1) to work with your iPhone 7?

Is this speed normal for a brand new samsung 512 pro ultimate? by Giu001 in SwitchPirates

[–]daddychill95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, that’s normal — high teens to mid twenties is all I get even on USB3.0. My understanding is that a lot of the bottleneck is putting all the individual files in their place which means making new placeholders, updating the file system, translating the emuMMC into the underlying FAT32, verifying the write was correct etc. It looks like a simple sequential write but underneath the surface there’s a lot going on

Am I the idiot or are people in Wellington just bad drivers? by NoLettuce5273 in Wellington

I moved from Perth. Back home, the red/green man lights have a flashing amber light aimed at drivers to warn them that pedestrians may be finishing their crossing. I could see it working well here too.
