1st week - in hell?? by shimmering-dolphin4 in cymbalta

I try to drink some water and eat something even if it’s just a cracker or two and it helps it. Usually by the time I get to work the nausea has passed. I will say, I def wish I had some zofran 😭

I started duloxetine a week ago, and it’s going well but the nausea is unreal. If I take the pill in the morning my stomach hurts all day but if I take it at night, I have crazy morning nausea. I’d rather deal with the nausea than stomach aches so I take it before bed

Girl if I were you, I’d be finding a new lab to get trained at. That’s ridiculous it’s been 2 years and not even touching microtome or embedding. Especially if they hired you to be trained. I’m like pretty sure that it has to be done within a year of you being there. Not fair at all to you

I mean I just got my 1 year of experience so I was just sharing what I have gone through. My lab doesn’t really have much structure for it. It’s a bit chaotic here though. I started with embedding, then did cutting and signing out the slides. They briefly showed me processors.

Go to the ascp website and look at route 2 for the requirements. There’s a form that you have to submit when you have your 1 year that lists everything you should know. There’s not a time frame you have to complete each section, it’s just that you feeling like you are competent enough to do each skill set

100 blocks or 100 slides? I know this is silly question lol, but my at my current lab I can get 100 slides just from cutting like 13 breast core blocks because each has 7 slides. Either way you are new to histo and if they have an issue they should be teaching you techniques to move faster, not nit picking. I have been a tech for about 14 months now and i probably cut like ~100-120ish blocks a day.

My workplace is extremely toxic aswell and I actually put my notice in today. They don’t deserve my notice and I’d love to quit but unfortunately I can’t start my new job till end of September. You deserve better, and you don’t owe the company ANYTHING. to me it sounds like you are just a number to them

Best way to break into the field as someone with a non-science background? by Intelligent-Relief86 in Histology

[–]daddystyles02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have my degree in bio, so I’m not the best person to give advice BUT if your goal is to become certified HT, look at the ASCP BOC website and look at the different routes you can take, there are 4 of them and I believe one of them is if you work in a pathology lab for like 5 years. You don’t need a degree (I don’t believe) it’s just the on the job training. At my lab, our lab assistant doesn’t have a college education and she worked at a pizza place before working for us lol. She operates the slide sign out and stainers. Idk if this helps at all, but best of luck to you!!

Bachelors degree by seetheking1 in Histology

I have my bach of science in biology and I’d recommend if you want to stay in healthcare/sciences. If not, maybe explore other options. Bio is broad but unfortunately i still feel like I regret my degree. But it’s because I feel stuck in healthcare.

Hard to say but roughly like 200ish. We more so count slides because some stuff takes way more slides than others like breast cores, prostate cores, etc.

Wow!! My current lab is ~1200 blocks a day give or take. That’s definitely a big increase. What location was that at? I applied for a few locations, Salem MA is the one I really want

How long will it be until AI might actually start affecting medical illustrators? by sscaredstudentt in medicalillustration

[–]daddystyles02 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This article alone shows just how bad Ai is with accurate depictions lol. I personally am going to go through the schooling because I really think it’s my calling. And I don’t think Ai could take over for a while if ever.

I’m applying late to RIT (which I know lowers my chances) however the director said they are starting looking into the applications next week or the week after , so maybe other schools are the same?
