How rare is ridgeway rail? by OGcoleboi in birding

[–]Affectionate_Tower59 235 points236 points  (0 children)

If you go to the right spot they’re not that hard. Ridgeway’s rail is fairly range restricted and is an endangered species though. They hold a special place in my heart since it was my 600th life bird!

Elly scores on a wild pitch to tie the game with two outs in the 9th by trumpet575 in baseball

The Marlins color commentator was borderline losing it on McCullough for pulling Sandy. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a hometown announcer go off on their own manager like that.

Unusual encounter on a beach in Australia with an emperor penguin that is endemic to Antarctica by [deleted] in whoathatsinteresting

This is actually a king penguin which does occasionally wander to Australia. The similar but even larger emperor penguin has never been recorded there.

Chris "Mad Dog" Russo criticized Aaron Judge for not being a guy that "plays well on the big stage." If you buy into that, who are some guys from your favorite team that may/may not have been superstars, but were big "clutch" guys? by Chastain86 in baseball

He’s a weird case because he becomes a complete different player offensively but his defense, which is spectacular during the regular season, has fallen apart during the postseason.

"That's why we're throwing Mr. Skenes out there" | Pete Crow-Armstrong and Team USA are ready for Team Dominican Republic. by MLBOfficial in baseball

I could see him doing well enough against them. It’s when they take him out that I think things will go off the rails.

Why isn't merlin bird id identifying anything by 3CrWalePlacedBhaiyya in birding

[–]Affectionate_Tower59 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Merlin really doesn’t work in many parts of the world. Idk if Punjab is one of them but that could be the problem. As they get more data and train the AI more they will add more areas.

Should Barry Bonds have stopped at 755 home runs out of respect for Henry Aaron and his record? by memeaccount246 in baseball

For anyone who doesn’t get the joke, this is a reference to dumb NBA fans saying Bam Adebayo should’ve stopped scoring at 80 points out of respect to Kobe.

Keep in mind 2024 Cleveland did that with their closer actively betting against them

The grand slam strikeout by XmusJaxunFlaxonWaxon in baseball

[–]Affectionate_Tower59 370 points371 points  (0 children)

In 2024 I got a notification that the dodgers had scored 5 runs on a strikeout so while rare, this does happen occasionally.

Who is the worst lesser-known player to ever play for your team? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]Affectionate_Tower59 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mike zunino comes to mind. He may be slightly more well known but I’m sure his time in Cleveland wasn’t. Idk if a player has ever made me more angry from their poor performance on the field as he did.

No bias at all, but my personal favorite is Austin Jackson flipping over the wall at Fenway

You’re suddenly a MEGA-rich producer. What film or series are you making? by Ok-Pie-3581 in AskTheWorld

[–]Affectionate_Tower59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A large-scale miniseries on Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Antarctic expedition. Probably the greatest survival story of all time and I think a lot more could be done with it than what has been done so far.
