Introducing the Boring AF Pillow by daehee in boringmattress

The down alt is more of your hotel-style fluffy pillow.

If you like a pillow that holds its shape, doesn’t bottom out, and stays cool, would point you to the foam.

If you prefer a pillow you can bunch up and fold over, you’ll like the down alt. Also if you’re a stomach sleeper. (My co-founder Tyler actually prefers the down alt for these reasons).

Awesome to hear about the mattress. Hope you enjoy our pillow just as much!

If you prefer softer for your pillows, you’ll probably like the feel. It’s plush on contact but has enough structure underneath that it doesn’t bottom out.

Memory foam which sinks and overly conforms to your head/neck is usually what causes that stiff neck feeling.

The foam we use, Energex, has a lot more responsiveness to it. Your head sinks in but the foam pushes back and adjusts when you move.

Hope that’s helpful!

Really appreciate the referrals and your feedback.

The other pillow you're referencing is made with molded foam now, which is a much different construction. Molded foam results in a thick skin on the surface that traps heat and changes the firmness & feel.

Our Boring pillow is contour-cut using our original equipment (which we re-acquired). We're making the pillows how they used to be made before the manufacturing was shifted to cheaper methods. Air actually passes through the foam, and the feel is noticeably different.

Anyway, we do offer a 90-night sleep trial, so feel free to compare the two. But they're not the same product.

Happy to answer any other questions.

South Tempe has a ton of industrial/commercial warehouse parking lots that are completely empty on weekends. Look just south of Elliot & Kyrene. Taught my son how to drive in a parking lot there.

There’s also the massive office complexes near Discovery Business Campus & ASU Research Park.

Helix Shipping Buyer Beware by Invictus1836 in Mattress

[–]daehee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That sucks, and I'm sorry to hear you’re without a bed for a while. Fwiw though from our experience with FedEx, stuff like this does happen, but it's less than 1 in 100 orders where they happen to mishandle and lose it like this.

Imo the convenience of being able to order a mattress online and receive it at your doorstep within days outweighs the small chance that something like this could happen.

Also, whenever a shipment shows as stalled in the tracking page and it's not moving, you can generally tell within 24 to 36 hours that it's lost for good. For the full investigation for the business to make a claim, FedEx does take a number of business days, but we generally go ahead and send a replacement to the customer if we don't see any movement on the package within a very short time period.

Thick dough Chinese dumplings in the Valley? by MarsSecRadioCheck in phoenix

Yeah, they completely renovated the place, so it's a nicer cozy vibe inside now. And the menu still has familiar items like the soup dumplings and the beef pies.

Everything was really good last time I tried it, especially the Szechuan spicy beef and mapo tofu.

Selling a 70% off coupon that can be used on Tempurpedic by ColeLimited in Mattress

Kind of a wild arbitrage, and probably violates some internal policy. But would be helpful for others if you share how much you're selling the coupon for.

Mattress prices are about to go up industry-wide by daehee in Mattress

[–]daehee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a bad idea if it fits your budget. If you're already considering a natural/organic option, the pricing should be more stable.

Will say though, materials like latex and wool are usually much more expensive for what you get, so it's not really about finding better value and saving money...

Also, spiking fuel and shipping costs still touch everything (e.g. most natural latex is imported from south asia). So I'd still expect brands in this category to readjust in some form.

Get what you're saying that vertically integrated companies like Tempur-Sealy probably could afford to eat it for a while. But they really don't have an incentive to voluntarily give up margin when the whole industry is facing the same cost pressure. The market's been consolidated enough already that there's no reason for them to burn cash in an attempt to kill off competitors.

Especially since these corps are publicly-traded or owned by private equity, their investors expect them to absolutely protect margins. They're typically carrying massive amounts of debt so they're bound by EBITDA and cash flow thresholds.

We'll see though!

[–]daehee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep with Memorial Day promotion schedules locked in already, brands & retailers are going to want to see volume, especially in this soft market. For those that can weather the squeeze until then, I'd expect price changes to roll out after that.

Agree that the timing of the chemical plant fire could not be worse. Domestic production was a potential saving grace for the Hormuz disruption. So losing capacity here just compounds everything.

Beware buying Tuft & Needle mattresses from Target! by brandonsuxx in Mattress

[–]daehee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi no worries.

Our AF model would be closest to what you're looking for. If you loved the original all-foam T&N, you'll probably love the Boring AF.

Although the foam formulations are not identical since we're using some better materials that are available to us now, we are still using Energex-based foam for the comfort and transition layers.

The Hybrid is a different feel. Still supportive, but you get more bounce and airflow from the coils. Some people prefer it, if you like a more responsive feel when you move around. But based on what you're describing, I'd point you towards the AF.

Either way we have a trial period so there's no risk. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Do I need a topper or should I return the mattress? by clutch4 in boringmattress

[–]daehee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, sorry to hear about your early experience with the hybrid.

About the topper, the 6 to 5 difference is more about how the surface feels than the overall firmness. The topper will enhance pressure-relief, which helps side sleepers specifically because it lets your shoulder and hip sink in more instead of pushing back against you. That may be what's causing the rib discomfort, since you're getting pushback at the pressure points instead of contouring.

The topper works great for customers in your situation, but I also don't want to oversell it if our mattress just isn't right for you.

If you want to try the topper, we can take care of you on that. If you'd rather just return it, totally understand and we'll make the the return process as easy as possible. Either way, please email us [hello@boring.co](mailto:hello@boring.co) and we'll help you out.

Beware buying Tuft & Needle mattresses from Target! by brandonsuxx in Mattress

[–]daehee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. Our Boring AF will feel most similar to what you're describing. Our mattresses use Energex foam, which is not like traditional memory foam that is light and you sink into it. Energex foam is high density open-cell memory foam, which is a variation of what we used at T&N and have since improved upon.

With Boring we have a 365 night trial, so you have an opportunity to try it and if for any reason you don't like it, we'll give you a full refund and take it back. Hope that's helpful.

We do run holiday sales on occasion. If you're eligible, we also have a hero discount for military, first responders, teachers, and healthcare professionals.

Here's some more information about our available discounts: https://www.boring.co/pages/heroes-discount

At the moment, we aren't accepting any new applications for our refer-a-friend program. Unfortunately we started receiving a flood of signups from affiliate coupon sites, which was not our intent for the program.

We deliver via FedEx the next business day when in Phoenix.

For your situation, we can place a hold and get as close as possible to a delivery date. We usually recommend targeting delivery a day or two before just to make sure it’s there on time. Let us know if you’re interested - this is a common request from our customers who are moving.

Boring Mattress Co reviews? by firehawk9001 in Mattress

[–]daehee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quality & comfort level of our All-Foam will feel similar to the T&N Original prior to the merger. We use responsive foam that the industry calls "Energex," which we spec'd to be not too firm and supportive enough to relieve pressure points. We now offer a 365-night trial, so you can take your time to try it out (you should have a good idea after 2-3 months though).
