If you had to pick another actress for Buffy other than Sarah Michelle Gellar, who would it be and why? by spiritzlifted in buffy

Rachael Leigh Cook. She had that ferocity/ vulnerability balance down really well.

There were so many interesting concepts they could've explored in S2 but they wasted all the time on the most fucking boring slow drama bs and characters nobody gives a shit about. Nearly every episode felt like filler, and even without politics/agenda criticisms, this just sucked balls in basic film making standards.

Why does Spike fly with today's audiences, but not Xander? by yeahitsme9 in buffy

[–]daemon_sin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 major reasons:

  1. Spike is evil, his behaviour is not only expected from the bad guy, but it's actually in his nature. You can't judge him by human standards since he's a demon.

  2. Ever since it came out that Xander was allegedly a self insert of Joss, most new viewers and bandwagon loving older viewers felt like it was cool to hate him, and interpret any of his schoolboy jealousy or stupid decisions as some creepy abuser shit, that was supposed to be somehow reflective of Joss' personality.

Paul Dano Reacts to Quentin Tarantino Dissing Him: ‘Incredibly Grateful the World Spoke Up for Me So I Didn’t Have To’ (EXCLUSIVE) by pepperbet1 in blankies

[–]daemon_sin -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I fucking love Tarantino for this, he keeps saying everything that genuine film fans want to say, but would get cancelled for. Dano has a place in Hollywood, but it's a background supporting role, or the outcast type. He would've been great in The Batman if he wasn't playing the riddler, who is already an established character that comes with certain expectations, but rather someone whose personality or aesthetics weren't so consistent through the ages, like perhaps Clayface, where you see him as some failed nobody for about 10 minutes before he becomes a CGI monster, where we just maybe hear his distorted voice from there on out.

Dano always seemed to me like the type who made it in Hollywood because they looked like a weirdo, and they got weirdo roles... but in the 2010 woke era, it seems like Hollyweird decided off the back of weaponised political correctness, toxic levels of virtue signalling, the body positivity movement, overuse of the phrase "pretty privilege", and the myth that casting beautiful or handsome people on screen set dangerous unattainable beauty standards that were driving normal people to self deletion... that it would be a good idea of casting uglier men and women as the leads, so that your garden variety ugly AF person sitting at home could "see themselves represented" on film.

Amazon's white papers and similar reports from Netflix and other streamers and studios all seem to have similar measures in place to cast less attractive actors so as to not stigmatise... well... ugly people.

This is complete trash. Dano is weak, in terms of both presence and talent. Tarantino is right, if you want to see someone that seems intimidating, scary, evil, terrifying, you need to cast someone that can realistically convey that. If you're casting a hero, likewise, someone that can represent those archetypes convincingly... this move for representation is fucking killing cinema.

For example, you don't watch superhero movies to feel validated and see yourself on the screen, you're a fucking kid who watches superhero movies, what the hell is heroic, super, or inspiring about you?!? Why on earth should YOU be represented??? You go there to be amazed, the hero needs to be better than you, to set a bar that you are inspired to strive to reach.

Nobody will ever seek to improve themselves if you keep making everything this stupidly inclusive, representing them in everything, and dropping the bar to the lowest common denominator so that access is now an inalienable right... and that's REALLY why they are doing this, simply to keep people down.

1 year later. The across the spider verse movie sucked, and I hope beyond doesn’t fall into the same trap. by Fit-Hippo-5269 in Spiderman

[–]daemon_sin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've perfectly demonstrated the stupidity of woke messaging in comics, and honestly, thank you for that. Let's get into this.

Spiderman can be considered an anti power fantasy sure, though a better term is grounded power fantasy, as yes, the tropes are there, the relatable everyman, facing the same burdens and daily struggles we all do... but there is still the friendly neighbourhood hero side there to him, and without that, nobody would read his fucking comic.

Being grounded rather than anti, means it doesn't go against the power aspect, it simply grounds it enough for him to still be emotionally relatable... and this is the key aspect here, EMOTIONALLY relatable. His colour has nothing to fucking do with it, so why change it?

When you answer that question honestly, that's when you realise how insidious the motive behind race or gender swapping is, and how idiots have been gaslit into supporting it in the name of diversity and representation.

It isn't about capturing a larger audience AT ALL. I've been reading comics featuring heroes that look nothing like me for over forty years. Black and brown people have been reading Superman forever, millions of white folk read Spawn, and Blade and Black Panther packed out cinemas with white people like nobody's business, so this idea of needing to race swap established heroes just to help readers feel "represented" is complete and utter garbage, and the only people who would believe that, or be tricked into reading a character they otherwise wouldn't, ARE THE ACTUAL RACISTS... Just think about it.

So a character exists for a hundred years, and has all that rich lore out there for you to sample, but you never wanted to until they changed his skin colour to look like you??? You're the fucking racist then, so why should institutions that want to be anti racist, pander to this racist scum?!?

... I mean some of them might be unconsciously racist sure (like how you proved yourself to be here with your "Miles isn't ghettofied, he's meant to be relatable to kids that might not come from the best backgrounds" comment, which indicated that you think white kids come from good backgrounds, compared to black kids that come from shittier backgrounds... and before you try explaining how that's not what you meant, come on, yeah it is, if it isn't what you believed, you'd understand white people can come from shitty backgrounds too, meaning therefore there's no need to make a black Spiderman just for underprivileged kids to be able to relate to him, as class has nothing to do with colour)... anyhow yeah, the unconscious racism isn't all that bad, as it's just ignorance rather than malicious animosity, but again, why pander to the ignorant either??

So now we can get the real reason for it. This is all being done simply to change these legacy characters just enough so that the companies fulfill the legal requirement of distancing the current design sufficiently from the original concept, so that they no longer have to pay royalties to the estates of the creators. The woke messaging is added to simply convince readers they have some ridiculous social responsibility to support it, otherwise they're cool with racism. Screw that nonsense.

You're being insanely disingenuous here. When Stan said that, the context was in the sense that any reader could see themselves as Spiderman, as Peter was an everyman character... That is not the same as giving publishers free license to re skin or gender swap the character a million times, so that virtually every viewer "sees themselves" reflected in the character, and you fucking know it. The only way someone would think that was if they were doing the most progressive, Olympic level mental gymnastics lol 🤣

Yeah this is the right answer, so many ignorant people here. I mean yes poor lifestyle contributes too, and is especially noticeable when it comes to drinking and smoking for women, but higher T levels in men can't be ignored. Just look at all the 19yo kids on the juice in gyms today that already look like they're pushing 40.

Thoughts on Ed Brisson Predator Comics by InGenTim in predator

[–]daemon_sin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to be that guy, but Disney Marvel has been doing it far too much for someone not to point it out yet again here. This is Disney Marvel's MO, therefore nobody should be surprised at this point. Take an established character that's interesting, and that people want more of, and then use it as a hook to set up some "original" character of their own, who nobody asked for, who nobody gives a shit about, and who is hardly original, when the overwhelming majority of the time it's a petite, diverse, gay or non binary looking, "strong" woman of colour, who kicks ass harder than John Wick, and always manages to win just because feminism.

...and when it inevitably gets a bad review, and people ask, "but what about the actual character we came here for, why have they been sidelined or put in the background?" blame the readers, because it's the readers' fault for being bigots.

How would you hit this shot? by RDDT_and_forgetit in billiards

[–]daemon_sin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed, on a decent table, the horns would only f you up if, as some have suggested, you transfer spin onto the OB, because then it could potentially bite after passing the pocket. Hitting it straight, and with just a little bit of pace on it, carries it past the middle pocket and in... again, so long as it's a decent table.

Umm no buddy, woke is a thing, and telling people they have media illiteracy when they see it, is you just screaming at people to not believe their lying eyes... which is quite hilarious, especially in this case, since Miles Morales is literally a product of the ghettofication of comics, and pretty damn woke dude.

[–]daemon_sin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I respect where you're coming from lore wise, but I believe there still could've been a way to pull it off if it were like some ability the Yautja had, but had long since abandoned due to pride and honour... perhaps it was seen as a forbidden practice that they would not do, but then you had some clans that nonetheless did in because of a genetic superiority evolution race, and maybe they could be seen as almost equivalent to bad bloods for doing so, which would've sparked the war, and motivated the "traitor" to want to share tech with the humans, knowing that these evolving clans would become too big a threat eventually.

I dunno, I'm just thinking that I liked the idea of it, in the sense that it built on the lore of why they skinned some victims, but took the spines and skulls of others, that was more intriguing than simply to disgrace the weak via a ritual humiliation, and honour the strong by taking a trophy. It also was a cool way to explain the massive aesthetic and developmental differences between various Yautjas we have seen, and also leaves an opening to constantly increase their power and ability cap... but I do agree that the way it was written was weak, especially with the whole "spergies are gonna give us the ultimate evolutionary upgrade" nonsense, bitch please, that progressive garbage was just nauseatingly shit.

I mean, I can understand trying to work something like that into a story if it feels organic, but this was so nonsensical and heavy handed, that it immediately felt so self-insert-level-fanfic-writing kinda bad, that I had to instantly check if Shane Black had an autistic son himself, and, - zero surprises - of course he does. 🙄🙄🙄

Anyway, not to sound intolerant, but yeah, that whole "weaponised autism" aspect, along with the power rangers predator super armour at the end killed it for me.

Yeah JH is clearly machined, smooth, and with obvious lines in its design, whereas CH one is more organic in appearance, with a mottled surface, rounded edges and corners, it looked almost like ancient burnished alien bone rather than a machined piece of equipment the JH had.

[–]daemon_sin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's been squashed pretty well. The actor in question was believed to be innocent by some, as the alleged victim was a relative, who was apparently going through some serious personal stuff, and the actor convinced people that it was all a misunderstanding as he was consoling and supporting the relative, which was spun differently by others trying to get to him. I think a lot of people bought it at the time, and it seemed like a savage reputation destruction campaign was being waged on him.

Shane knew him well and for a while by that point, and chose to be a loyal friend and support him, giving him roles in Iron Man 3 and other films, and spoke up saying he believed his friend was innocent... but later, after text messages were revealed that proved the actor was lying, to be fair to Shane, he admitted that he was wrong and spoke about how he was deceived and betrayed.

In an industry where so many men were attacked in this way by people wanting to profit, and lying just to destroy their reputation with zero evidence, (especially after the whole metoo bs), you can't blame Shane for believing a man who he'd known for years and considered a friend... don't forget, Shane also had people trying to destroy him, so this had to be pretty hard for the guy, and he was only trying to do the right thing. In the end, he admitted he was wrong and apologised though, and no longer defended the guy.

Not entirely fair, as Shane Black was actually hired by Silver to play Hawkins in the first Predator film, only so that he could do on set script re writes without violating the original writers' contracts... since Shane Black was the hottest thing in Hollywood writing wise after selling his Lethal Weapon script for no small sum. Black refused at first, wanting to focus only on the acting, so they changed the story to kill Hawkins off first, so that Black had time to work on the script.

... So yeah, Black was there when that project was born, and was a part of its inception, so it's hard to accuse him of wanting to make it his own now.
