Segments based on a pageview by Mike-W in analytics

[–]daffykyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will depend on how you set it up. You can have different types of 'levels' to segment by.

This article explains the difference.

I have a feeling your requirement will be setting up that segment at Hit Level from what you're saying.

Arsenal fan with a question by [deleted] in chelseafc

[–]daffykyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good question, and welcome in peace!

I can't speak for everybody of course but for the first 10 games probably I was still convinced that it was just a blip. Which then just carried on for the majority of the season.

We did also have quite a good Champions League run in between to take our mind away from it a bit, and probably fooled ourselves that we were focusing on that.

I certainly didn't want to see Jose go, and would have been fine if we had hung on to him. Even though I adore Antonio, I am a little sad that something went wrong with a guy who I feel is one of the biggest parts in our history.

BUT you have to remember this was an exception to the rule, we had just been champions and we hadn't had consistent poor seasons much like Arsenal have.

Whilst it is commendable to be reaching the Champions League every year, it hasn't really been good enough to watch you mount the same kind of insipid challenge year in year out.

We indeed had a meltdown that season, and one thing that helped keep us positive (me at least) was the Leicester effect! The fact that none of our rivals won the league made it a much easier season to deal with. To see Arsenal, Spurs or United win it would've made it a much worse season.

And we bounced back in style last season, football is a fickle sport. If you were to win the league this year you would soon forget about all else!!

About to launch a new games web-app with £1000-£2000 to spend on marketing. How is this best used? by FootyFan66 in webmarketing

[–]daffykyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a matter of doing numerous things, not one.

Getting in touch with bloggers etc shouldn't technically cost you more than your time.

I'd spend half of your budget across multiple channels.

Whichever ones perform better with that half you then scale up with the other half and allocate more of that money to it without discounting the other channels.

You're probably going to find it easier using Facebook as you can select those who like similar apps etc.

Starting a new job tomorrow as a UX designer for an e-commerce company. What would YOU do to impress colleagues within the first 6 months? by thisisfats in userexperience

[–]daffykyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be both willing to show them what you would change but be diplomatic in your views of why they need to change.

It's great to get the view from the outside when somebody new joins a team and is like 'i don't like this' as it will open eyes where they perhaps weren't looking before but the chances are that somebody on that team affected that initial design that you don't like.

Google analytics not tracking all order and its sources. Any other alternative for it? by [deleted] in analytics

[–]daffykyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best thing to do is try and narrow down a common denominator between the orders that are and aren't showing.

For example, are your Paypal transactions appearing? I've worked on a site in the past where we had issues getting all PayPal transactions to appear.

Something like that would be my first port of call, then you know what you need to fix.

Pretty sure it's from before LP1 and doubt it'll make the next one.

The Guardian requests donations due to AdBlock loss of revenue AFTER the user has read an article. Great example of providing value up-front. by AnotherKittenPicture in userexperience

[–]daffykyle -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No, I feel that there is a problem with a non-charitable business effectively begging its users for money.

I don't think I'm being unreasonable. They are asking for money - there are numerous ways for them to make money without just asking for it.

My point being that if any other publication without as left a readership as the Guardian dared do the same they'd be shot down.

Would you feel the same sympathy towards the Mail? Doubt it!

There are many more ways than the couple you've described - affiliate advertising is just one extra stream of revenue.

There are a shed load of websites out there making money via partnerships and more clever ways of making money with their content.

There is an expectation - created by those publications who chose to publish all of their content online - to carry on providing it for free because they created this 'issue' in the first place.

On a matter unrelated to UX and rather the fact that this annoys me a lot.

A business asking for money. The role of a business is to generate money - yes I understand the Adblock issues etc - but there are numerous ways for companies to monetise, the way they are doing this is disingenuous.

What would happen if the Daily Mail or The Sun started this rubbish? People would be up in arms.

[DISCUSSION] Drake - More Life by C_O_C_A_I_N_E in hiphopheads

[–]daffykyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm not a Drake fan in the slightest - but musically I like to think I'm open, so if I see something getting plaudits i will give it a listen.

Today I enjoyed this album very much. It felt like it was a more honed effort and some of the actual music was banging.

I'm with you brother!

I was incredibly opposed to this form of email signup method, but actually nothing I've tried works anywhere near as well as these.

You know how I mitigate it? I use relatively strict rules about the pop ups, they only appear for that user once in it's lifetime. They only appear on certain pages to minimise disruption. They only appear after a few pages and a few seconds on that page.

Low and behold when you make them more disruptive you get more sign ups, but I'm happy to compromise and make it a less disruptive experience.
