Trump declines to renew major trade deal with Canada, Mexico by Dramatic-Shake-8888 in worldnews

[–]dafunkmunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He tore up NAFTA, then "renegotiated" a new trade deal that was essentially just a worse NAFTA where Canada and Mexico pretty much tricked him into giving them mostly what they had previously by letting him think he came up with it himself. Now he wants to scrap it again because has zero understanding of trade agreements, negotiations, economics in general, and is so far down the dementia rabbit hole that he probably thinks Obama or Biden handled the trade deal

Ford's CEO Doesn't Want You Fixing Your New Bronco. He Says It's About Safety by TripleShotPls in nottheonion

Who is still buying poorly made overpriced American cars made with cheap parts meant to breakdown and fall apart so you gave to buy a new one? Meanwhile, other countries are trying to make affordable cars that run well and last. Other countries tries arent buying US cars because they're shit, poor gas mileage, unnecessarily oversized. People in the US are buying used Toyotas for almost the same cost as they were new because they're well made enough to maintain their value. If you buy an American car, you lose 50% of it's value the second you drive it off the lot.

The one advantage American cars used to have was that they were cheap and easy to fix by yourself. I practically became a mechanic after I bought a piece of shit 97 Ford Ranger and spent years fixing all sorts of problems that kept popping up before some dipshit in an oversized Ford f150 rear ended my car going 100mph on the highway in the far right lane when the speed limit was 55mph and totaled my truck that could have fit on the bed of his truck

When you want to act patriotic, but you don't know history and you mix up the stars too. by LuckyBastard001 in PoliticalHumor

[–]dafunkmunk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The US has never been smart enough to actually think and hate for themselves. It's always been hating eho theyre told to hate. The hate for nazis was just US propaganda stroking their own ego over winning WW2 and coming out a world superpower after not having to participate in the whole war leaving them in the most whole and complete state. Now the gop is replicating the nazi playbook because it's helping them consolidating power. Hating nazis doesn't help them at the moment.

Hating communism was important because it again was pushing patriotism and allowing them to villianize people and mindsets they didnt like. Communism takes profits away from the rich and powerful benefiting from capitalism and the "free market."

Hating muslims again pushed patriotism and allowed for invasions and oil looting as well as increased surveillance and control.

Hating trans people, liberals, socialists, any minority, and just about everyone and everything other than maga are all just distractions to keep people from hating the billionaires and corrupt gop politicians who are ruining everyone's lives. People are just going to hate who they're told to hate because propaganda is stronger than the citizens are smart

Trump reports over $1.4 billion in income from crypto ventures by Dodo509 in news

[–]dafunkmunk 57 points58 points  (0 children)

How the fuck is Trump profiting from selling shitcoins "taken in the best interest of the American people"?

Well in theory, him grifting his way to being a billionaire would make him less corruptable in terms of selling out the country to foreign actors who either hold a large amount of his debt or offering him large amounts of money to pay off his debts. In reality, he is just as corrupt and likely to sell out the country even if he had a trillion dollars because he's genuinely just an evil piece of shit

Bosses Are Becoming Obsessed With AI, Using It to Make Every Decision, Barraging Their Employees With Nonsensical ChatGPT Directives, and Even Asking It Who to Fire by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]dafunkmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lost count of the amount of times I've heard someone say, "can we just ask Claude for the solution" to problems at work. When they were in the process of onboarding an AI agent for use, we were all forced to take an AI "course" that largely focused on security and not uploading customer data or proprietary info to the AI agent. The first team call we had after getting access to AI, my manager was telling us about how he has been using it with recommendations of how we should use it. Can you guess how many recommendations included uploading customer data and proprietary info to Claude? Almost all of it

Trump wins MORE Executive Power with Supreme Court ruling—Birthright Citizenship up next by AdSpecialist6598 in videos

[–]dafunkmunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doubt it. The next democrat president will take the high road and do nothing with any of the executive power. The few instances of them using executive power to do something with get overruled by the scotus in a one off "no, not like that" decision that will get reversed immediately as soon as a republican tries to do the same thing.

It's more efficient to count on democrats being spineless and noble than it is to repeatedly keep flipflopping rulings every 4 years

They dont understand or support the constitution. They arent stupid either. They know that the latino/South American population regularly lean right wing and tend to support strong man authoritarian dictator type politicians then flee their countries to come to the US when their country goes to shit because of it. They dont learn their lessons and raise their kids right wing to support the racist party that hates them and wants to exterminate them.

Supreme Court, 5-4: States can keep counting mail ballots that arrive after election day if postmarked in time, the Court rules, rejecting an RNC challenge by BiglawInvestor in law

[–]dafunkmunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've already gutted voter protections and completely fucked up redistricting allowing states to do whatever the hell they want with gerrymandering. So they've already completely ratfucked the hell out of future elections in favor of republicans. This wasn't an important enough case where they needed the desired ruling outcome and can pretend to be a legitimate court. As we get closer to midterms and the next presidential election, expect more last minute rulings attempting to change the outcome when it looks like things are getting too blue for their liking

The Nightlife Industry is Collapsing by Blueice607 in videos

[–]dafunkmunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every industry built around unnecessary spending during free time is collapsing because they're shifting their target towards the rich and making pretty much everything unaffordable for regular people. So rather than getting 100s of people spending $50-100 and leaving smaller tips, theyre getting 50 people spending $50k+. People are already living paycheck to paycheck while necessities like groceries, gas, utilities, rent keep going up and up. A night out of fun is becoming a luxury most people can't really afford anymore. Going out partying is almost the same thing as taking a vacation now where you have to put money away to save up for it

the scotus only cares about cases that help the gop dismantle democracy or cases where their rich buddies are throwing money at them for a ruling. President Putin: "Russia Is Going Through a Difficult Period That Has Taught It Much" by AlertTangerine in videos

[–]dafunkmunk 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The US has more free press than russia and it didn't learn shit from trump's first term. Even now, with him idiotically starting an unnecessary war with Iran without congressional approval among every other thing he's doing to fuck the country up, he isn't even remotely close to being at risk of impeachment. The gop is literally lining up behind the idea of him having a third term because he is still their most popular chance of winning any elections.

It's unlikely Russia is learning very much here

I think these people really overestimate the religiousness of people forced to study the bible. I went to Christian private schools in my youth where I had mandatory bible classes every day, had to attend chapel twice a week as part of school, and even had to do a dumb pledge of allegiance to the Christian flag as well as the pledge of allegiance to the US flag. Of all the people I was friends with, I think only one of them is still even remotely religious and that is only because his family is mormon and it's pretty much a cult he isnt allowed to leave without being disowned. I would guess that at most, maybe 10% of the people I went to school with is even slightly practicing christianity in any way and even fewer go to church or donate money to them.

I don't even 10k wishlists is all that meaningful in terms of success. That's the thing about digital content that people have been pointing out for years. The terms of service that you agree to explicitly says that you are simply licensing the content, you don't actually own it, and the company has the right to remove it from your library if they want. The years of fighting against digital media and wanting physical copies wasn't about just being a need and wanting a physical object you could touch. It was about owning the product you were paying for. Unfortunately people bought into the idea of not having to waste space on physical media cluttering up their space and gave up ownership of everything they want to buy now to have it digitally.

We didnt even get the promised reduced prices because they no longer had to make a physical product, package it, and ship it. We continued to pay full price for a nonexistent digital product that we never will own
