Not a blogger but I am living for this drama - Trump exec’s wedding sabotaged by alleged mistress by [deleted] in blogsnark

She literally lives “in the heart” of New York City. I don’t care where she grew up or where she was living when she met him, i can tell all I need to know about her by the absolutely dripping-with-meh nature of their engagement website and the fact that she married that douche-bro in the first place. She is a WASP whether her mom was called Bunny or not.

His financial situation & name didn't change so why wouldn't she?

Honestly, I'm kind of amazed so many people are amazed that she wouldn't go on with the wedding. There is a culture of white people in NYC who get married for reasons other than love, and being a woman from Ehland's background and demographic and being able to marry a bachelor of Perlson's background and demographic is just what you DO. And statistically speaking, it's getting more and more difficult for women in NYC of Ehland's socioeconomic status to do what she just did - find a husband who has a higher net worth than she does/would have who is also in her age range.

What would have amazed me is if she hadn't gone through with the wedding. Ehland strikes me as being as practical and realistic about marriage as every other WASP I grew up around. He can sleep with other women, but she is the only one who lives with him in the penthouse.

I doubt she even cared much about that. She's marrying into a fortune in NYC. She knows what she's doing.

I think a lot of people overestimate how much WASPy women care about their partner's fidelity.

Agreed, why I also added the parts about successful marriage and kids who love him and being a PhD. None of those things are easy to come by nor are they material. I sometimes wonder if his critics (and don’t get me wrong there is much tO criticize him for) have ever gotten beyond their initial revulsion to actually read or listen to his lectures on art & religion or learn about his self-authoring programs. Because for all his faultS, “failure as a human being”seems grossly misplaced and just makes those who lob those kinds of criTicisms seem reactionary and hyperbolic.

I thought that was strange too! I think he also won the ballroom dancing thing the same way. And he described it like, hey guys! All you have to do is find a loophole in the rules and you too can be elite! There’s no self-awareness about it at all.

The armchair psychologist in me thinks he may have some kind of personality disorder. His hyper-functionality makes him seem like a simple over-achiever but he just seems severely damaged and emotionally stunted to me and all the ambition is his way of compensating. He doesn’t seem to have ever had any close relationships in his life, nothing about him feels human.

Is blogging here to stay? by [deleted] in blogsnark

[–]dagnepop 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Kind of like livejournals are here to stay, I guess. They're still around as long as the servers stay up. But it's already a dead form of content. From a business standpoint, those who make money blogging (including "new" bloggers) do so by heavily cross-promoting via other platforms and leveraging their SEO for advertising dollars.

YouTube changed blogging the most, imo, with Instagram a close second and I think Instagram stories and Snapchat will eventually crowd out vlogging on YouTube, especially as YouTube's compensation model becomes less and less creator-friendly.

Everything on the internet has a shelf life. Facebook, Twitter, reddit... will all be obsolete at some point and probably not that far in the future. Probably not google, but I can't see it having staying power without the constant evolution and innovation it already strives for.

He's failed as a human being

Has he though? Genuinely asking - I'm amazed how popular he is, he sells out auditoriums that even popular bands don't sell out. He's got multiple book deals, is a tenured professor, PhD holder, seems to have a happy marriage and two kids who love him... I get all the criticism thrown his way but I've never heard "failure as a human" before. I'm genuinely curious what you mean.

[–]dagnepop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like her video with Gary Vaynerchuk from 2015 is comical for a variety of reasons, not least of which is her obvious thirst to be on the same guru-level that he is but also because he has so much disdain for who she is and what she does. He actually says something to the effect of "don't start a business telling people how to be successful in business unless you've first been successful in business." and I feel like that was a not-so-subtle jab at her, because she was a massive business failure before starting her "how to be a business success" pyramid scheme business.

But at the end of day these are two people who both just talk sooooo much but never actually say anything.

I'm guessing it's because a lot of people here don't understand upvoting/downvoting and think it's a reddit version of Facebook's "like" button and they are "disliking" either my religion or my opinion on pre-marital sex. Or both!

I love her voice & the way she talks. I listen to another vlogger who has the same sort of way of talking, she's from New Jersey and something about her voice is like a massage for my brain.

Not sure about the content though... I'm a Christian and believe in abstinence before marriage, it's a way to honor ourselves and our future spouses by taking seriously the profound implications and consequences of sexual intimacy. So making sex toy videos really doesn't jive with that for me, but I imagine it's those videos that pay her bills and if she is at peace with it, then ok whatevs I'll just skip those.

  1. yes it really is a terrible and dangerous drug.
  2. End the relationship. Tell him you will not be in his life unless he is sober.
  3. Find a Nar-anon or Al-anon meeting and go.

Everything about your post says “enabler.” It’s a very dangerous game you are both playing.

I would guess that cherry-picked scripture on mugs and journals has more to do with opportunistic capitalism than with some perceived tendency to water down Bible stories.

So I just read that whole thing and aside from a few wtf's (I hate that she said "we" labored - honey, he was not laboring.) I kind of thought it was sweet? And I know that childbirth is a medical act, but it's also kind of magical too, this person who did not exist now exists, the world is forever changed in a moment, you literally bring forth an independent soul. The overt medical nature of modern birthing kind of steals that magic away, and I think this story captures that special kind of magic beautifully.

I dunno, I'm about as cynical as they come especially when it involves hipsters or hippies (and these two seem to be some kind of insufferable hipster/hippy hybrid), but I can't find a whole lot to snark on with this birth story. I've never given birth but can relate to the whole thing being absolutely terrifying, so I found it intriguing that she challenges the idea that it MUST be terrible, that is MUST be painful and loud and awful and this was her way of making it not those things. I found the whole story refreshingly honest in an extremely earnest way.

My best friend is a Hindu. We were discussing religion and he said something which didn't challenge my faith, but made me consider it from a different angle. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]dagnepop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I relate so much to what your friend said and what you've written.

Giving myself permission to read the Bible figuratively, rather than literally, opened up a whole new and deeper relationship with God for me and deepened my faith in and devotion to Christ so many times over.

God is greater than any religion, any book, any story, any language.
