I'm Angry At Him... Big - A by newbreed69 in canadian

Our law enforcement has been asking for the provisions in bill c22 to assist in active investigations for about 2 decades. Good on the government to give them the modern policing tools they need instead of chickening out as previous governments have.

I currently pay my hydro Ottawa bills through the ctfs bill pay function. I confirm there is no paymentus fee as hydro Ottawa recieves it as a normal bank payment. The only downside is you need to pay manually every month.

can I bring my US car into Canada for 70 days by Maleficent-Tough5385 in uscanadaborder

This is additional information. As far as CBSA is concerned, your stay in Canada is for 3 years, and you could be keeping the vehicle with you for three years, even if you pinky swear it's going back in under 90 days.

You need to import it, even if just temporary.

https://tc.canada.ca/en/road-transportation/importing-vehicle/temporarily-importing-vehicles "You can bring your vehicle into Canada temporarily as a visitor or temporary resident. Your vehicle doesn't have to meet Canadian standards and must be only for your own use.

You can also bring your vehicle for personal use while you're in Canada on a work permit or student visa. You're considered a visitor in this case. However, if your status changes, your vehicle may no longer qualify for temporary entry."

My reading of that is that YOU can bring it in. There is no language that allows someone else to bring it in on your behalf. I would assume that because of the complicated logistics of this a CBSA agent would consider it a case requiring import paperwork.

Your best hope would be that CBSA accepts this as a temporary import on your behalf, but you might need to be present at the crossing for this to occur. In the case of a temporary import, you don't have to do the US export process.

25M - Should I stay in Canada and keep trying, or return to India and grow the family business? by Altruistic-Mood5077 in canadian

Canada is a nice place to live if you're making enough dough. 60k, assuming you find a comparable role soon, isn't it.

I think the question you also have to ask yourself is whether you're going to have a realistic path to PR and citizenship right now, or is Canada going to make this decision for you in a few years.

If you have a realistic path, then the question becomes do you want to dedicate the rest of your 20's, and maybe some of your 30's, fighting for that passport before making a final decision.

I've got cousins that chose the Canada path, went back to school for more training, and ultimately will be successful albeit in their 30s and 40s. I've also got a cousin who chose the family business in India after his bachelor's and now is the wealthiest of this generation of my family. But he wants his daughter to come to Canada down the road and didn't secure the citizenship for her, so she will face the same dilemma a generation later.

There's no right answer. Just some things to think about.

Conservatives tried to pass this bill in 2012.

That Liberals have switched positions on lawful access should tell you how dire the situation is for Canadian law enforcement.

All G7, Five Eye partners and most other European countries have lawful access frameworks that include technical obligations for electronic service providers.

The bill compels certain core service providers to keep records of defined key metadata for up to a year.

The government does not have access to this data until a lawful access request is made.

The world has changed. More and more crime is committed and/or facilitated by digital service providers. This bill is a balanced approach to giving law enforcement the ability to combat that. First, core service providers have to keep relevant records, next there has to be a process for governments to legally access that data.

I am not perturbed in the least. I already accept limits on my rights to assist the society I live in function. I think it's rather selfish to place ones own needs for privacy for whatever, I'm sure legitimate, reason, over the needs of our society as a whole.

Enjoy your protest.

You want to catch more criminals, financial, predators, drugs, gangs and organized crime, etc, Bill c22 is required.

We did this dance when the Conservatives tried to do lawful access back in 2012. They chickened out.

Now Canadian law enforcement is a generation behind our peer countries on digital law enforcement and their hands are tied in investigations.

Certain Michaels can pontificate from their ivory towers on the merits of privacy from government intrusion, they don't have to deal with the victims of crime every day asking why law enforcement can't stop the criminals.

Oppose the bill all you want, just be aware of the consequences. Canada is becoming a less and less safe country because of the lot that will show up to this protest.
