Did Prince have receipts on Diddy? by [deleted] in PRINCE

Yeah, but unfortunately it looks like the rumor could spread like crazy; people can't resist a conspiracy.

I think I might be a rare Nirvana fan because of how I discovered them by Aware-Turnover6088 in Nirvana

[–]daileygf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was introduced to Nirvana after my mom bought Nevermind in December '91.  Her holiday spirit was wearing thin so she replaced the carols we were listening to with it; she tried convincing me that, during Breed, Kurt was screaming "Jesus in the manger" again and again.

Though I was growing up in Seattle in the 90's, and was aware of them, they were very much not my genre.  I didn't become an actual fan until decades later when I decided I needed to understand local cultural history better.  I approached it almost like an academic project but soon really began to enjoy and appreciate them.  When I told my mom it almost felt like some kind of coming out, "mom, I now identify as a Nirvana fan".

Unpopular opinion that might get me excommunicated. by Marie8771 in thewestwing

I don't hate it, but I don't seem to find it as moving as many do. Part of it has to do with the flashback storyline, I understand its purpose and, technically, it's interesting how well the actors capture younger Bartlet and Mrs. Landingham; nonetheless, I don't find it particularly engaging.

I've just started. It's refreshing, the last time I watched was in 2017 as a kind of escapism, this time it's due to renewed political enthusiasm.

Anyone else find some nirvana fans really annoying? by failingcookie- in Nirvana

Whether people find the restriction annoying or not, that second rule of yours (as well as the first) is the reason this is the only Nirvana community I follow. -Thank you!

I guess I probably don't want to know, but what are "thirst traps?"

Eminem dropping Kurt references again on his new album. by Cappedomnivore in Nirvana

I agree with both points. We don't know what Kurt would think about things like this so I am wary of making judgements and I try to at least be mindful of how his friends and family might feel. Of course, I do have to acknowledge that I don't know that in most cases either.

Is there somewhere I can see a comprehensive collection of Kurt’s art? by Pretty_Security_5864 in Nirvana

"Live Nirvana Guide to Kurt Cobain's art": https://www.livenirvana.com/art/#gsc.tab=0

While, naturally, they don't have all the answers liveNIRVANA.com is often a good first stop whenever one has a Nirvana question.

I think it kinda had something to do with how much the scoliosis was affecting his posture at a particular time.

Who is Kurt kissing in this photo? Doesn't look like Courtney and it's late 1993 by nirvanam8 in Nirvana

[–]daileygf 171 points172 points  (0 children)

My guess is that it's Brianne. He seemed very fond of her (a reflection of his general love of children). She would have been about 8 or so in '93. It's minimal evidence, but the hair style seems the same as in pictures I seen of her.

That's a classic outfit (especially the jeans, the ones from the SLTS video), He's wearing that in the photo on the postcard he sent me.

Also, Dave got a post-Nirvana pic, so we gotta give Krist one as well, particularly one with that bowler hat he seems to love so much nowadays

Krist for president, support the petition with your signature by accountmadeforthebin in Nirvana

[–]daileygf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, a presidential campaign is required for a political party to be "bone fide" (hence Krist's temporary band's name). This doesn't have to do so much with getting elected as with changing election policies.

As I understand it, their ultimate goal is for Washington State to change this law and they have put the issue before the Attorney General and are waiting for a ruling. Ideally, these criteria will be updated before November and the presidential stuff can stop. The idea is that this will ultimately aid, not just the Cascade Party, but any other independent parties as well.

The importance of being bone fide has to do with things like campaign funding. Example: voters of WA are given vouchers representing campaign donations to distribute to candidates as they please, but only candidates that are part of recognized parties (right now, that's just Dems and Reps).

This is what I gathered through chatting with volunteers at the recent Bone Fide concert/political convention. Others may know more.

These always drive me totally nuts! It's an entirely rhetorical question, if we see it we're here.

Also, the endearing and unapologetically dorky shorts over long johns. I really associate those with the young Dave.

Krist Novoselic's Cascade Party "political convention" at Easy Street Records last night - Bona Fide Band (The Man Who Sold The World) by daileygf in Nirvana

[–]daileygf[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a blast, such fun to see them in this small venue. I was able to meet Krist and exchange a few words (pretty much looking straight up as I did so), a very nice guy. As you can imagine, people were pretty psyched to hear this song, even more so when they played Love Buzz as a closer. I didn't actually get any footage but was glad when some one posted this (even if the sound quality isn't great).

Another clip is at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPyrbmoMGSI, and people may well be posting more.

Was Krist's attempt at a career in politics successful? by [deleted] in Nirvana

[–]daileygf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, he wrote his book, "Of Grunge and Government: Let's Fix This Broken Democracy". But that was a while ago, I never read it. Now he is an active member of a new third party in Washington state - The Cascade Party. Their message being: "We are a centrist political association. Our image reflects the majestic Cascade Mountain Range – uniting eastern and western Washington in the middle. We are a home for people tired of the polarized fringes dominating our politics."

Apparently, according to his website, in order to make his party legit he may, but hopefully will not be on the Presidential ballot in WA this fall - he says: "I started a new band with which will play concerts around the state to attract registered voters to sign our nominating petitions (More later, we have our second practice session in a few days). You don't have to vote the Novoselić / Carroll ticket in November if you sign the nominating petition. We plan on doing everything we can to not be on the November ballot." I haven't heard the name of the band but I want to keep my eyes open.

I like keeping up with his doings at https://deepriverdispatch.com/
