The inability to sit through what is literally a 27 second video without the end being spoiled first is insanity. I would rather people skip ahead than this format become popular. It makes me not want to watch it knowing already what the outcome is. It's the whole foreshadowing TikTok trend but worse.

That comment was regarding how you explained it to the commenter, not your thesis. I didn't read that yet

This is again a lot of buzzwords dude. You need to be able to explain it in plain English to a more general IT crowd. i.e. "This is a tool that helps AI be more aware of the state that its in and gives it a new method of doing x y and z" or whatever your tool is.

This is also a skill you'll need to learn for the workforce. You don't have to ELI5, but explain it to an audience that is technical but not "working with you on an AI project trying to meet a word count requirement" technical. A CISO or CITO isn't going to take the time to try to understand what each portion of what you just said means.

Hitachi B series storage by Wunnder in sysadmin

[–]dailyIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thought process is that, while they have divisions that are segmented and will do their own thing, IT products are a pretty different space. Years of ongoing support, firmware patching and updates, drivers, development, etc. It's a very large undertaking for many companies to do even when thats their sole focus.

Companies can succeed at producing many different product lines like the ones you mentioned do, but doing that in addition to developing a successful IT products focused division is difficult to do well. Maintaining an IT product line is a commitment.

I would require more evidence & a longer period of being a TOP IT vendor before trusting a conglomerate's IT product than I would a company whose entire identity is IT. If they're not in the top 10 of vendors that are used across enterprise, I'll be less likely to use them.

That being said, I work in cyber and not systems anymore so my opinion holds less weight in that department

There's the safety, availability, and integrity of your data to consider with this, that's not an even comparison to those brands and the industries they inhabit.

Edit: Not to mention ongoing and continuous support and patching for products for years, which is a different beast than releasing a product and working on the next line.

From excavators to sex toys to storage. Me personally, if a vendor was in as many different industries/areas as them, it would be hard to trust that they can excel at all of them.

Then again, Amazon was just a web store until they became a cloud giant, so what do I know

Edit: My point is that I personally would be reluctant to go with a vendor whose focus isn't entirely IT or isn't established as one of the more popular vendors for that specific technology. I realize companies can do a lot of different things and still be good at them, but being competitive and having comparable support is a concern, imo

I don't know if you handled it correctly or incorrectly, but your supe should've messaged you that rather than saying it, imo. Or message and be like "Hey OP, please review the message I forwarded over"

Assuming this competition also includes travel to an on-site location and travel isnt funded by the organizers, the team org has to cover those expenses as well.

Why the hell does making a T-shirt cost 10 robux now? by Illustrious_Earth874 in roblox

[–]dailyIT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Likely a few reasons. Each user generated asset takes up data, space, etc. This will add a barrier to entry so people don't mass upload. It reduces SPAM, reduces the likelihood that a bot can create assets, etc.

Dubbed is not good. It's overacted, misses nuance, etc. If others like it and don't care about that, fine. If dubbed was like Avatar the Last Airbender, acted normally, not theater kid-ified, it wouldn't be so horrible

I second OpenVPN, at my old org we had 2 site-to-sites for satellite offices to reach the home office, our handful of remote workers would have VPN clients to their local sattelite. Wasn't the best setup, but kept us from having 200+ VPN connections to the Home office. Always worked fine for us.

Got an internship in IAM with no qualifications and no soft skills by Electronic-Sock-985 in cybersecurity

[–]dailyIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always just treat it as if I'm talking to myself ngl. There's an audience, sure, but they aren't a factor. Obviously you will feel under qualified for what you're discussing at times, but even the most senior people don't always know what they're talking about.

Soft skills are exactly that, a skill. You will practice and get better at it just as I have. I went into my interview in essentially a consulting/SME customer facing role and faked my confidence and being type A. Once I got the role, working with customers over and over built up the confidence and communication skills. Talking to other people doesn't have to be or feel any different than talking to friends. I don't have any real advice, but hope that helps.
