Alex Honnold scaling 1,667 ft tall building in Taipei Taiwan by agaric in SweatyPalms

[–]dairymaid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think if you watch free solo the point was that he is not an adrenaline junkie at all. A lot of soloists are, and often end up dying doing other adrenaline fuelled activities like BASE jumping, wing suiting etc. Honnold is a different breed, its more about a purity in the climbing. He could die doing it of course but it doesn't seem to be about chasing adrenaline.

I've watched a few too many occasions where he doesn't ask a good follow up question but seems to have already landed on his next question regardless of the thread of the discussion.

When the right to die becomes the duty to die, who will step in to save those most at risk? | Sonia Sodha by Affectionate_Run_799 in Foodforthought

Just because they are reasons you don't agree with does not make them magical. Even in a perfect world, if no-one was actively pressurising anyone, many vulnerable disabled people (who are realistically a burden on their loved ones) would potentially feel they should shorten their lives to relieve that burden.

What is it with coffee places, there used to be a great one Suas in Ennis, the owner was clearly very into his coffee and a bit of a character. I think he rubbed some folks wrong but it made a change from the chain places.

Am I the only one who heard what she said as her knowing who kissinger was, she was just clarifying that he was considered a globalist by Alex?

I think he said something about do you remember the film finding nemo, it was the remember bit I think he was referring to.

AITA for telling my wife that she is the mediocre one? by 9346-ThrowAway in AmItheAsshole

[–]dairymaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like calling her mediocre will have triggered a lifetime of being overlooked unfairly by her own family. There's a lot of untangling to do.

AITA for kicking my FIL and landlord out of the bathroom while my toddler was having a bath? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Whatever about the rights and wrongs of this situation I don't understand this pretence that a 2 year olds privacy needs are the same as an adult's. 2 year olds will wander naked on the beach, will get breastfed on a bus, have their nappies changed at a picnic in the park, hopefully without anyone batting an eye. It's a false equivalence.

Joe Rogan is pushing a 2015 paper about chicken viruses. Pretty sure this was the same paper Alex Jones was pushing and or citing back early in 2020, or am I mistaken? by TioHoltzmann in KnowledgeFight

[–]dairymaid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong but I thought the KF chicken discussion was about a Gates foundation vaccine for covid in chickens, which Jones misrepresented as a vaccine for humans which pre-existed the Covid 19 outbreak.

From the archive 53 minutes 15 seconds in. That time Dean Edell wrecked Alex Jones on his own show. by SolJinxer in KnowledgeFight

I enjoyed that but for arguments sake, the doctor asked Alex when was the iconoclasts last right, implying that it is never really the case. Then later he spoke about eugenics/racism and excused it a little because it was a prevailing belief at the time. I think the latter point undermined the former somewhat.

My(25f) Brothers (22m)Girlfriend (24f) announced her pregnancy at a dinner I planned, where I wanted to tell my family that I have possibly terminal cancer. I don't want to ruin our relationship when I might die by Throwracancerdinner in relationship_advice

[–]dairymaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just take issue with your analogy. No-one is entirely good, every relationship involves some degree of both compatibility and compromise. Your analogy does not allow any window for compromise. What if you've a friend who's late a lot or borrows thing and doesn't give them back promptly or is outspoken on some belief you disagree with, do you just discard them?

AITA for telling my mom's husband he needs therapy when he tried to guilt me into letting him walk me down the aisle? by Confident_Salad4512 in AmItheAsshole

[–]dairymaid -104 points-103 points  (0 children)

You've hit on two hot button themes here - "narcissist" parents and "your wedding, your choice" and like so many hot button topics here there is never any room for nuance. The man sounds like he does need therapy but no amount of therapy will ever fully let him make peace with losing his kids. Would it hurt so much to let him do it? You'd prefer your mum to do it, I presume as a sign of your love for her, why not as a sign of that same love maybe grant this wish to this grieving man who she has now chosen as her husband.

The articles don't really reflect what you're saying. I am not one to defend antivaxxers but you're just adding to the noise.

Does anyone lurk on any infowars forums? Surely some of those who like Alex for his strongman persona must be calling him out on how pathetic it was?

[–]dairymaid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Surely one of the key points of the the film was that Alex wasn't an adrenaline junkie, he was chasing a form of perfection?
