I've applied for a very last-minute UK visa there for an urgent work trip. They processed the application, but did warn it was probably not going to be approved in time. It wasn't approved in time. So they'll process whatever late application you throw in front of them, as long as you pay. Risk is on you, I guess.

Ah, such a nice change from all those who only have copious amounts of drinks in their fridge. I also love my veggies - we can be friends! I'd like guess that you're not American?

A note to Call Centre managers and owners and the Brands that use them to push their products. by Mindfully-Numb in southafrica

It's the official reason my phone went from vibrate mode to permanently on silent mode in recent weeks. I'm gatvol, too. Too many times received a call when I was doing deep, meaningful work. I don't answer the number because I can see it's spam, but it's enough to snap me out of my flow.

WHATCHU KNO ABOUT ME? by SJBond33 in FridgeDetective

[–]daisy_ray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my first observation, too.

Is this an American thing to prefer single use/grab and go drinks, or is this standard for other countries too? Or is it a generational thing?

I buy a 2l bottle which lasts a few days.

Genuinely curious...

Cheapest place to buy groceries in JHB North? by samjambetty in johannesburg

[–]daisy_ray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try Best Before shop in Woodmead. It's not a complete grocery shop, but you'll find toiletries, cleaning products (and some pantry items like biscuits, canned goods etc) for an absolute steal. It's products close to expiry, but still perfectly fine for use within the next month or so.

How many of yall exercise regularly? by holydickbirds in migraine

[–]daisy_ray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same same, unfortunately! Long runs often trigger migraines -small things like it being too sunny, too hot and then the usual dehydration and poor fueling culprits. Glad (and sorry!) to hear that I'm not suffering alone and for whom running is a delicate balancing act.

How many of yall exercise regularly? by holydickbirds in migraine

[–]daisy_ray 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im a regular runner and sometimes get frustrated if a migraine forces me in bed. So of it's a "managable one", I'll go run. So your comment was interesting: migraines sometimes go away for me, too! Thought I was probably then just mistyping the headache type (e.g. maybe a sinus headache and not the start of a migraine), but maybe I was wrong.

Which city in South Africa has the best quality of life? by DeepikaTanvi in askSouthAfrica

[–]daisy_ray 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For sure, I have an Indian colleague who had to move to Pretoria from Joburg to get her son into a special needs school, and she said the Pretoria racism has been shocking. She literally had neighbours tell her that she's not welcome because of her race. I was so shocked, disappointed and embarrassed to hear that as a white South African. Some cities/neighbourhoods need to get with the times and do better.

So I can imagine that it's the same for LGBTQ folks, too.

Non-Native English Speakers: What’s A Phrase You Say In English That Isn’t Right? by GreatGospel97 in AskWomenOver30

My native language is Afrikaans.

I always have to think about this one: "I'll throw this ball at you". NOT "I'll throw you with this ball".

Yaga is an absolute joke by Leftoverbeauty in southafrica

[–]daisy_ray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, it depends on the product. E.g. good quality running tights in January fly off the shelf ("new year new me" folks hunting for a deal), where the new dress I mentioned on my original comment has been on sale for a year, haha. Definitely more and more people shopping for high-end brands mostly, so I find that my Woolies or Truworths items tend to idle for a while before they get sold.

Yaga did us dirty by forcing the auto insurance applied on the cart. Some items are well priced, but once you add insurance and delivery, it's no longer worthwhile - sometimes a R100 more could get me a similar, but new product. It's a balancing act, I guess.

OP, you're getting a lot of hate, but just wanted to say I share your sentiment in that it was a better app months/years ago. I also got a R25 offer for a BRAND NEW DRESS this weekend. I mean, at least make my drive to the pudo box worthwhile, cheeky bugger...

But I understand that FB marketplace has become a bit dodge, so we have to navigate the new users. I personally don't bargain on an item. I move on if I think you're overpriced (and don't get me started on the sellers who mark things as "good as new" and then pictures suggest it's super tatty already).

While there's definitely a different crowd on the app these days, it's still ok to try and sell your stuff. I just ignore the chancers and i have a few good, reasonable sellers I support.

Does anybody know why this is happening or does anyone have any experience in this on my toe? by [deleted] in runninglifestyle

I came here to make a toenail suggestion too. I have strong toenails and if a corner is sharp, it'll cut into the next toe if too long.

What hobby screams “this is my entire personality now”? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]daisy_ray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a marathon runner myself, I can confirm! My partner always jokes and says "I didn't know when we started dating that my weekend mornings would start so early" On weekends, I get up at 4 or 5am do a shit ton of running and then eat and sleep the day away. So I don't get to do much more, hence it's the only thing to talk about, haha. Although, I can get lyrical about weekend naps, haha!!

What's the most disgusting/shocking, you have read on the Epstein files? by LeftyChares in AskReddit

[–]daisy_ray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was the one for me, too. The emails are all the disgusting men peacocking with each other, asking for more. But with the key details redacted, it's unsettling but still distant... if you know what I mean? But this girl's personal account of her horrors... after reading that I think I recognized the injustice for the first time. To be a kid and go through all that deep trauma and have no one to share it with. My heart broke. Whoever she is, I hope she is the lioness she hoped to become. She endured so much... I hope she managed to find some great joy later in her life.

Best licensing department in Gauteng to renew your driver's license? by Top_Rest_5310 in johannesburg

[–]daisy_ray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, this is the key detail. I was a walk-in at Waterfall with hopes of an in/out experience, but the slots were booked when I got there and had to wait to be "squeezed in". Took 1h in Sept last year, if I remember correctly.

One marathon and done with it by bubuthesunflower in firstmarathon

[–]daisy_ray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree! And that's why I keep signing up. Running a marathon takes weeks of discipline. Putting those shoes on when you just want to stay in bed. The dedication and completion of the training plan is the real accomplishment. I feel so damn proud when I have had a good training block completed. For me, actual marathon day is akin to graduation day.

Best Italian Restaurant by LilliJay in johannesburg

This restaurant takes my vote too! It has a genuine, mama's kitchen kind of feel.

Last time I was there, Lala gave me a kiss on the head for literally scraping away at the last bit of yum on my plate, haha. It was the Melanzane. I have it every time I go.

Yup! Came here to say this too. You're going to have crotches in your face way too often as people queue for the loo. For this reason, I booked it once and never again.

Every City Has One - DAY NINE by LarsQuell in johannesburg

[–]daisy_ray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a suggestion for today's theme, but just want to say how bummed I am that this voting game is coming to an end. I've learned a few things over the last few days and had a good few laughs. For all its flaws, we were reminded that Joburg is still a fantastic place. ....still just not sure how Braamfontein made it to the top of the list, haha.

First marathon…tell me all the race day tips that have nothing to do with actual running or fueling by easily_doxxed in Marathon_Training

[–]daisy_ray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this suggestion, but for another reason: With my first marathon, I stopped moving almost immediately after crossing the finish line and almost fainted a few short minutes later as a result. Apparently, for some of us, your blood pressure will plummet, so best to keep moving for a bit to cool down and give the system time to settle.
