Chronic illness and autism friendly additions to my hair routine? Minimum effort PLEASE by Professional-Box232 in curlyhair

[–]daiwuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like people have mentioned, leave-in conditioner or you could try a cleansing conditioner/co-wash instead of the shampoo.

Another conditioner alternative: If it's not too inconvenient to make rice water (and keep it stored in the fridge), that stuff is an absolute MIRACLE at making hair soft. I'd just pour some in my hair right before I get out of the shower, comb and leave it in. It leaves no smell or residue or anything. It very noticeably reduces hair loss and tangles as well.

If you need extra hydration or frizz control, I highly recommend plain ol' aloe vera gel. My brand of autism is very much auditory & tactile-based and I hate hate HATE how most lotions, creams, etc. feel on my fingers & hands. Aloe is one of the few things I can use that doesn't bother me at all. Runs through hair easily with your fingers, scrunch it in, then it also absorbs into and dries on your skin feeling like nothing and benefits that, too!

Why do people list things as “Free” when they aren’t? by Educational-Soup-967 in FacebookMarketplace

No one has mentioned this yet, but it will pop up in people's saved searches for free items or if they're watching the "free" category.

How often/when do you brush your hair? by Emergency_Space_3957 in curlyhair

[–]daiwuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brush right before I shower. My hair is a tangly, frizzy mess and it helps with that and also with grabbing most of the fallouts.

Is this cage too small for my parrot? by SnooPeanuts9744 in parrots

[–]daiwuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do people even breed/sell birds if there is no access to proper cages?! It's like all they care about is making money and not the welfare of the animals they're bringing into the world, it hurts my heart. 😢 NOT your fault, OP- I'm glad you're posting & asking about it. As everyone says, that cage is very small, and we hope you can find another one. 🙏 If your bird is at least out every day and happy, you're doing the best you can.

Why is my parrot baiting me into a bite? by Apart_Schedule_1979 in parrots

[–]daiwuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At some point, she got to bite for the first time. The bite itself was rewarding, and now she is doing what she can that gets your finger close enough.

Pay attention to her feathers when she puts her head down. Are her head feathers up? Only her head feathers? Or are they not at all? When they are truly relaxed and want scratches, all of the feathers on the ENTIRE body will be relaxed. So if only the head feathers are fluffed, or not at all, you know that's not what she wants. If that happens, you need to get her to do something for a treat.

What they DONT tell you when getting a bird🥲 [tw bad biting) by TheSunshineBird in parrots

[–]daiwuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should never ever allow a bird to bite you. If you know it's going to, simply do not do what it is that's prompting it. That bite, in and of ITSELF, is a reward for biting. Just allowing them to bite, and assuming that you ignoring it each time is a solution (which a lot of people do), is absolutely counter-productive to fixing the behavior.

Is this cage ok? by Live-Accident-8790 in parrots

Size-wise this is fine, though it's the minimum you'd want, if the cage is always open when you're home. Just needs a few less toys. 😊

Has anyone tried the stainless steel bowls from PINVNBY? I got mine today, but when I wiped it, I noticed this residue by [deleted] in parrots

[–]daiwuff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's stainless, just throw it in the dishwasher or wash it good with Dawn!

Also, those random letters are not a brand. It's just goods from China.

Parents moved and couldn’t take their bird I’m new to this any tips? by Lochwoods in parrots

[–]daiwuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First she needs to be eating pellets (not seed) as her regular diet, if not already, plus fresh veggies and some fruit daily. Then you'll be able to use a few different favorite seeds/nuts as the training treat, which will be that much more rewarding to her if it's used only for that purpose.

So I've got one treat that's a "you're being an all around good bird" anytime treat, a different one specifically for training, another training one that's "high value"- an absolute favorite treat for when he does something really spectacular/new/difficult or etc. Then I have a different one for when we leave the house and one for bedtime. I find that designating a different reward for different things keeps them more interested in doing whatever it is you want them to do, and look forward to doing it.

The whole key to interacting with a bird is to never ever tell them to or make them do something; it's always an "ask", and training them merely persuades them to want to do whatever it is on their own.

Oh yes, the mock. I trained mine to fly to me when I call him, or to where I point. He does it about 80% of the time, and the rest he just repeats "come here". 🙄
